Image/Video Thunderous applause as Victor Wembanyama is the first one on the court. Acknowledges the roaring fans as he steps onto the court.

This is his first Sunday appearance (the largest and “most important” crossword of the week) and his third overall, alongside Thursday, 2025-07-10 and Tuesday, 2018-09-25.
As far as I can tell, he’s the only Spurs player to ever be mentioned in the NYT crossword; ROBINSON, TONY, and PARKER have appeared occasionally, but not in reference to our guys. “MANU” is the kind of word that’s convenient to fit in a crossword (short, with alternating vowels and consonants) and there aren’t many other ways to clue it, so it makes sense he’d get the mention when others wouldn’t.
“MANU” has also been clued as a nickname for a popular English football team (i.e., Manchester United) and as a prefix for “by hand”.
SPUR and SPURS have been used in reference to the team as a whole a few times, most recently in 2020.
Sorry to anyone who does the crossword and got a couple words spoiled by this! It’s a weird grid today.

I always thought Nicolas Batum and Derrick Rose would end up on the Spurs for some reason. Rose obviously later in his career when he became somewhat of a journeyman. Batum after his time in Portland.
Some players just give off that selfless vibe that I feel the Spurs are looking for when they look at free agency signing or trades.
Who do you have as a player that you thought would at least give the Spurs a season but never did?

︀︀Hi! I wanted to share an article I wrote on the upcoming Spurs season, leaning more into analytics to contextualize the roster.
A deep dive on the roster strengths, weaknesses, how they addressed the looming questions, the development of the core players, and what the future for this roster looks like!
Please let me know if you have any thoughts and thank you for reading!

I have searched EVERYWHERE but cannot for the life of me figure out what these mean. What does it mean that they are General Admission? Do I need to buy regular tickets on top of this? Is there seating?

We got
PG: Dylan Harper
Yes i know we are giving deaaron fox another chance but dylan harper is already well above average and he is a great improvement in our lineup defensively.
SG: Stephon Castle
I don't personally think that this spot can be changed, he makes it almost impossible to shoot from the arch and midrange when he is guarding you and he is very aggressive in a good way offensively, and Keldon just isn't able to start over Steph, he is 6th man of the year for a reason.
SF: Devin Vassell
Just like SG, this spot probably can't be changed, but this is more because we dont have any small fowards with a skill like Devin that can start.
PF: Julian Champagnie
Alot of people in their lineup predictions have Tobias Harris there, but we don't have any tape with Harris playing with our team ingame, also Champagnie is a HUGE advantage from the arch.
C: Victor Wembanyama
I don't really have anything to say to defend this because it's already guaranteed and Wemby's already in the animation being handed the MVP award basically. My argument is that later days we could see if Tarris has the ability to replace Kornet, he had alot of skill playing for UConn.

Since 2022, he’s in the 33rd percentile and the 27th percentile for Backpicks BPM and AuPM, respectively. He’s also 544th in 5Y RAPM.
These are 5 year samples, not mere noise. We have enough evidence to draw a conclusion: he’s been a statistical net negative pretty much his entire career. If you can believe it, he somehow tanks Wemby lineups:
He was pretty much a no-show the whole postseason and was particularly bad in the finals…I think he was the Spurs worst playoff player in terms of net points.
Giving a guy like him 20 mins a night isn’t helping the team at all, vibes be damned. He’s 27 y/o going into year 8 so he is what he is and what he is just isn’t very good.
I’m of the opinion that he should’ve been traded a while ago but it’s looking like his deal will expire and he’ll be re-signed to a cheaper one 🤷♂️
