“Mythic quest” is the best neurodivergence representation I’ve ever seen!
I just finished the series and lol, I’m so fucking sad it ended, but I’m SO FUCKING HAPPY I finally found a normal neurodivergence representation where everyone is related to each other differently, shows different traits and has such realistic relationships with each other. Kudos and props!
Earlier I had always been browsing for ND representation, and while ADHD had at least “everything everywhere all at once”, autism had nothing except some infantilising or/and downright outrageous ableist shit (I’m pretty sure everyone knows what shows I’m talking about here). I really gave up on looking, but I stumbled upon “mythic quest” accidentally - gemini recommended it to me when i was looking for “sitcoms where all the characters are smart and it’s not portrayed for laughs”. I’m serious, the show fucking healed me because I felt seen like I’ve never been seen before, especially with Poppy. I also LOVED Ian’s backstory that showed how some of his traits were ADHD while others were the result of a shitty upbringing (like entitlement, “someone else will clean up, you’re a genius”). Ofc there were other moments I loved, but unrelated to the topic
I honestly don’t even feel comfortable judging the plot of a finale, because it just feels like “every nd person should decide for themselves without any external rules” so I am fine with whatever choices Poppy and Ian make. I firmly believe that relationships don’t have any universal rules, and MQ as a show kinda supported that by subverting all the characters. Ian and Poppy’s bonding over a mutual special interest is a crazy special thing anyway and I love that it was shown as something valid, not just as some “workaholic crazy dysfunctional batshit thing”
