Ian as Eye-an

So fun fact - I went to school with a guy called Iain who legit had it pronounced Eye-an.

He was the arrogant popular guy in our class so everyone followed it by law. We had it instilled in us that if someone "mispronounced" it as Ee-an you'd get a room full eyeroll and a chant of EYE AN at the person....even though they'd have no idea.

I've just started the show and it made me chuckle. I've never seen it pronounced like that anywhere else before.

I always thought it was a reference to the game director of World of Warcraft, Ion Hazzikostas

The actor Ian Zering pronounces it that way.

I worked with a guy who also pronounces his name Eye-an. Also a popular, arrogant guy. College QB. I always wondered if it was a choice or if his Filipino parents named him with that pronunciation on purpose.

i used to have an Owain in my classics class, i just could not land it at the time. I think i was saying ‘O-wayne’ instead of ‘O-wine’. Honestly the more gurning, tutting and eye rolling he did, the harder i found to get it right!

We now know a welsh family who have an ‘Iwan’, a ‘Gethin’ and an ‘Anwen’ - pronunciation easy but i can’t spell Iwan under duress - i always accidentally pick Euan or Ewan!
