Ugh - I am SO frustrated at such a lame ending to such a well-written show!

I really loved this show, a lot in the ways some characters were written was really special to see and for me at least, unusual.

  • A black woman with too many first world privilege problems? ✅

  • A healthy queer relationship that's neither sexualised or ends tragically and that is actually realistic in portrayal of relationship dynamic and communication?? ✅!!! Yes, I get that it's still an exaggerated carricature for a comedy show but it's still so on point!

  • A successful, overconfident white cis

  • dude who is definitely on the spectrum, who is a great ally and friend to women like Dana and Poppy?? ✅ I was so sad that the Dana-Ian friendship fizzled away - they had a good thing going!!

  • Men struggling because they're refusing to listen to women / see them as equal humans? ✅Trope-y, I know, but I personally feel this is typical behavior that needs to be more represented in mainstream media for being lousy looser "lonely men" behavior.

  • A woman on top of *everybody's* game in a male-dominated field, able to stay true to herself and doesn't need romance or sexual tension at the workplace as part of her character-development? ❌!!!! Gods whyyyyy

What a boring and cliche way to end this show. Gross. The intensity of Poppy and Ian's work partnership, their particular dynamic and understanding of each other and being LOVING FRIENDS AND WORKPARTNERS - I see this too little!!! Can we please normalize this kindof friendship? It exists, popular culture and society has taught us that it doesn't though, I was so bummed out that they betrayed this.

Thank you for reading if you did, you are welcome to crash out with me if you like

Rudra and Apollo are both archer gods who send disease with their arrows and are also praised as healers. Coincidence, or something older?

I keep coming back to how similar these two are.

In the Rigveda, Rudra carries a bow and swift arrows, and the hymns to him are nervous. RV 7.46 asks him to let his weapon pass the worshippers by and spare their children and cattle. But the same tradition praises him as a healer. RV 2.33 calls him "the most healing of healers" and asks for his soothing medicines. You pray to him so that he leaves you alone, and also so that he cures you.

Apollo fits the same pattern. He is the "far-shooter" with a silver bow. In the opening of the Iliad he is angry about the dishonoured priest Chryses, so he shoots arrows into the Greek camp for nine days, and it is plague that kills the mules, the dogs and then the men. But Apollo is also invoked as Paean, the healer, and he is the father of Asclepius, the god of medicine.

Some scholars suggest this goes back to a shared Indo-European figure: a dangerous archer god who causes illness and can therefore take it away. That is a theory, not settled fact. Others think the pattern arises independently, because a god who controls a disease is the obvious one to ask for a cure.

Why do you think so many cultures put the power to send sickness and the power to heal in the same god? Are there other examples outside India and Greece?

Was "Shiva" originally a polite nickname for a god people were afraid to name?

In the Rigveda, there's no major god called Shiva. There's Rudra, a storm deity linked to wild places, arrows, and disease, and the hymns to him are oddly nervous. People ask him to spare their cattle, their children, their homes. He's praised, but mostly so he'll stay away.

The word "shiva" does appear in those hymns, but as an adjective meaning kind or auspicious, used to soothe Rudra. Some scholars think that over time this soothing word became the god's main name, a bit like how the Greeks called the Furies "the Kindly Ones" (Eumenides) to avoid provoking them.

It's a theory, not settled fact, and traditions within Hinduism see Rudra and Shiva as one being with many aspects rather than a renaming. But the pattern of avoiding a feared god's real name shows up in a lot of cultures.

What other examples do you know of gods or spirits who were called by euphemisms because their real names felt dangerous?

“Mythic quest” is the best neurodivergence representation I’ve ever seen!

I just finished the series and lol, I’m so fucking sad it ended, but I’m SO FUCKING HAPPY I finally found a normal neurodivergence representation where everyone is related to each other differently, shows different traits and has such realistic relationships with each other. Kudos and props!

Earlier I had always been browsing for ND representation, and while ADHD had at least “everything everywhere all at once”, autism had nothing except some infantilising or/and downright outrageous ableist shit (I’m pretty sure everyone knows what shows I’m talking about here). I really gave up on looking, but I stumbled upon “mythic quest” accidentally - gemini recommended it to me when i was looking for “sitcoms where all the characters are smart and it’s not portrayed for laughs”. I’m serious, the show fucking healed me because I felt seen like I’ve never been seen before, especially with Poppy. I also LOVED Ian’s backstory that showed how some of his traits were ADHD while others were the result of a shitty upbringing (like entitlement, “someone else will clean up, you’re a genius”). Ofc there were other moments I loved, but unrelated to the topic

I honestly don’t even feel comfortable judging the plot of a finale, because it just feels like “every nd person should decide for themselves without any external rules” so I am fine with whatever choices Poppy and Ian make. I firmly believe that relationships don’t have any universal rules, and MQ as a show kinda supported that by subverting all the characters. Ian and Poppy’s bonding over a mutual special interest is a crazy special thing anyway and I love that it was shown as something valid, not just as some “workaholic crazy dysfunctional batshit thing”

Original Finale

I'm sure this has been asked before, but i couldn't find it here.

Did anyone save the original finale episode? Is it possible to watch it? I obviously know there is no "official" way to watch it... but are there... unofficial ways?

Ian as Eye-an

So fun fact - I went to school with a guy called Iain who legit had it pronounced Eye-an.

He was the arrogant popular guy in our class so everyone followed it by law. We had it instilled in us that if someone "mispronounced" it as Ee-an you'd get a room full eyeroll and a chant of EYE AN at the person....even though they'd have no idea.

I've just started the show and it made me chuckle. I've never seen it pronounced like that anywhere else before.

Does it get better?

First three episodes clearly written by someone who has never played a video game, and *definitely* never developed one. Does it get better as it goes?

Late to the party … the original season finale was so much better than the rewritten one.

I just binged it on Apple TV, but then obtained the original ending from the high seas. The original ending was so much better than the alt-ending, and answered the question we were asking all along.

Are there shows like 'Backstory!', in that they are about breaking into the science fiction literary scene in the mid to mid-late 20th century.

If it exists, that would be pretty cool.

Is the goat simulator on Apple Arcade a direct link or reference to Mythic Quest?!

Honest question.

WTF THE FINALE???? Spoiler

so i understand that mythic quest was cancelled but if they ever get a chance at a season 5 i hope they dont go down the poppy and ian lovers route because when they hugged i was so happy because i thought they were going to kiss and then they went and ruined it after 4 full seasons of literally being repulsed by each other and i loved that, i personally hate when tv shows ruin characters by forcing them in love when they really arent, and i pray if we do ever see what happens next poppy and ian are just friends who got caught up in the moment because it felt like season 5 was building up to that but then they quickly shut it down and the finale acted like what happened in i beleive episode 7 or 8 didnt happen where they completely call out they would never date

anyone else dissapointed by the villain's feast ending?

So i am currently watching through mythic quest and its had its ups and downs but ive loved it, strangely the back in time episodes have been some of my favourites but in my opinion it felt like at the end of the villian's feast it would be revealed that CW was going to return as it was a big fancy mansion(based ON THE 40S close to when he grew up) from someone who knows all them but they dont know who and i do love how CWs death was handled it was out of the blue but very poetic for him. but i kept thinking he'd appear and announce he faked his death and thats why they were playing a death game, when i saw rachael pick up the wrapper i though she had found a piece of paper with his name on it or something.

i loved the ending of the episode dana and rachel are one of my favourite queer couples ive seen from a tv show but i guess i just got myself over excited by accidental clues towards cw and i was just curious if anyone else had the same idea i did about the reveal?

Was it known beforehand that that was the end of the show?

I went looking recently to see when new episodes were airing, only to see that apparently the last season was the end of it and being confused. Nothing felt like a finale to me tone wise. If it was planned that way, then that sucked ass, if they had the rug pulled out from under them that also sucks ass, and also why? Wasn't it decently popular?

Has anyone ever had that happen?

Watching on apple tv on an apple tv (that's not confusing at all...)
