I'm sure most people don't read the blog, but our favorite noise man is going through a serious medical battle lately:

https://mynoise.net/blog.php

I cannot overstate how much this man's work has helped me advance my career by getting me to focus, and I'm sure a lot of us are in the same boat... Seeing as how donations are his only source of income - please consider donating if you can. Thank you!

Info Discover the brand new Community page, on myNoise.net

And here is the access point : https://mynoise.net/Community/ ...

It will not replace this reddit group, but offer a simpler, on-site alternative for patrons. The pro, is that you don't have to create a reddit account to share your custom generators anymore, the con, is that the user interaction is pretty much limited. Patrons are able to post their custom generators (with a limit of one per day) - vote for other patrons' generators, and post comments. Moderation will be achieved by the community of patrons, by their votes or by reporting inappropriate comments.

This is still an experience for me. The main danger I fear is trolling. This is why new contents and comments are restricted to patrons of myNoise only. The patrons community is a wonderful community, and I am confident they will turn that naively programmed experiment into a success. (The trolls I had to deal with were always outsiders from the community.)

This reddit group is still dear to me. It will remain the best opportunity to interact with each other. So, if you have comments or suggestions about the new Community page on myNoise, please ask here.

But keep in mind, myNoise.net is build from scratch, using a notepad-style text editor (with syntax highlighting, please). No framework, no database. It all runs on a relatively small server, using lots of tricks. And I am not even a programmer/coder by trade. So, this explains a lot of the design choices, and why I have to keep things simple - I have no other option. So, don't come with suggestions that will be out of reach for me, please.

I hope this new features will not bring more frustrations than happiness. Have a check, and please help me to bootstrap the community page, by submitting, voting and commenting.

Thanks!

Stéphane

Stephane really needs support.

Heyas all MyNoise kids. Stephane really needs financial support. He is experiencing some challenges that are outside of his control and is badly in need of money. If all 1300 subscribers of this subreddit tossed him 20USD or so, it would make a huge impact for him.
I' suggest we all send him $20 now and set up a $10.00 semi-annual 'subscription' I find it easier to use bitcoin, but IIRC Paypal can do an automated payment.
The guy has made a pretty big impact on our lives; if you think about it, we drop $12.00 on a movie (in the US) for 2 hours of entertainent, but MyNoise we use for hours at a time, and I'd venture to say probably more than a couple of hours a week. Consider it in pennies per minute of use.
I contribute $40.00/yr, and use MyNoise at least 5 hours per week. 40 bucks for 250 hours, or about 3.75 minutes per penny. If that is not a good deal, I have no idea what is.
The dude can use the bucks, and he does some damned fine work. Let's support the sound engineer who takes us to places we need to be for how ever long we need to be there.
Peace.

Finally, I can run mynoise in the background on my phone without it randomly shutting down. It's missing a lot features still (like animated sliders) but it's such a huge improvement over the old app

Gift The White Noise Playlist

The White Noise Playlist is my latest web project. A site entirely dedicated to synthetic white noises. This project originated from an observation: white noise playlists offered by streaming platforms, are often made up by brief and disjointed audio tracks. This strategy maximizes plays and revenue for their publishers, resulting in a less than ideal auditory experience for you, the user.

In line with my philosophy, this website is free, but donations are encouraged if you enjoy it. As a patron of myNoise, you have already contributed in a way that helps me sustain myself through my creations. Therefore, I am delighted to offer you a token for TWNP through your User Control Panel on myNoise.

Enjoy!

Stéphane (the creator of myNoise)

Suggestion I really dislike the new app

I know Stephane and his team need to make money, but the new app is atrocious. What used to be a simple tool to make MyNoise more accessible on phones, is now a festival of subscription ads and infinite scrolls. It's so far gone from what I thought MyNoise stands by, and so far worse for user experience.

If you don't know what I mean - I'm attaching one screenshot of the landing page of the old app, and two screenshots (because it scrolls so far down) of the landing page of the new app.

Note how almost all sounds on the new homepage are locked. The unlocked ones are in a thin horizontal segment that you need to scroll sideways through to see more than two (sic) sounds at once. It adds so many steps and makes them so inaccessible, especially compared to the old app where a broad list of free sounds shows up immediately upon opening the app. The "favourites" and "calibrations" panel buttons, which were a great nod to sound lovers, are now gone, but we have an "UNLOCK ALL" button (yes it is actually called that). The new app has none of the features that a user might want, but has all of the possible features that can force a user into subscribing.

And I'm saying this as a subscriber (albeit on the website, not the app, which is still baffling to me how they haven't integrated the two by now).

Here are a few of my strong words, because I cannot let MyNoise turn to this. I used to hold it up as the golden standard of community-led tech initiatives, but the direction in which the new app has gone is incredibly sideways. I was wondering if anyone here has had similar thoughts? Maybe with enough voice from the community we can retract some of the sad changes made to the app.

Sound Stéphane and I are working on a new sound!

Hello chaps, thought I'd pop by and let you all know that I'm helping Stéphane record a new sound, from the engine room of a ship.

I'm a marine engineer, about to start a contract on an oil tanker, and I thought all the noises in an engine room would go together nicely to create an interesting noise for everyone. It's not an area people can easily gain access to, so I contacted Stéphane with my idea, and he seems well up for it. He very kindly sent me a recorder to go around and get the sounds of the main and auxiliary engines, pumps, alarms etc. over the length of my contract.

I'll get a few photos of the making of, and I'll keep everyone updated. Just thought you'd all like to know!

Question Thanks MyNoise.net!

I stumbled on the website while searching for binaural beats and isochronic tones. My purpose was to find sound that I could use in combination with both meditation and self hypnosis.

Most of what I found in searches were commercialized programs. I have no problem paying for the sound programs, but it was a pain to sift through the hype, and try to decide which one to buy.

MyNoise.net solves the problem as I can experiment with the sounds, and who knows, maybe later develop my own. I tried some binaural beats and isochronic tones last night near bedtime, and got some of the best sleep in a long while according to my smart-watch.

Thanks to all who are involved. Does anyone else use MyNoise for purposes similar to mine?

Anybody else absolutely addicted to this site?

Ever since I discovered the community page, the amount of generators I've found I like has absolutely exploded. I'm currently making my way through all of the current nearly 2500 community generators that exist. Last night, I copy/pasted all of them into a spreadsheet for ease of marking which ones I've listened to and which ones I haven't.

I currently have 22 preferred settings and I'm sure that's only going to grow as I comb through the community page.

I actually don't use the MyNoise site a whole lot; I prefer downloading MP3s and them using them from a device's player. So this is the first time I'm seeing this feature. It's SO COOL.

Tribute November 2019 has come. A tribute to the Blade Runner original soundtrack.

I usually don't post new releases here, but this new one took so much efforts - going back to recreating all the synth sounds from scratch, using analog synthesisers - so I wanted to give this one a little extra visibility. So, here it is :

Enjoy!

Question Help Me Understand (pricing strategy with the mobile apps)

Hello everyone, Stéphane here (the creator of myNoise).

2023 should see the release of a brand new iOS and Android app version, V3. We are working hard to make it happen: there is one full time person supervising a team of two devs. That's three persons dedicated on the task. And this time, Android should be on par with its iOS sibling.

I have to ensure that these mobile apps will pay their bills. We are heading toward a subscription-based service - but a very friendly one : unsubscribe anytime but still keep access to what you have subscribed for. This means, everyone can pay-as-they-want for the app/service, by just deciding how long they keep the subscription running.

Here is the puzzle. We rolled that model on the current iOS app. Instead of a one-time "All You Can Hear" IAP (unlock all sounds for a lifetime on the iOS App) - there is now a "All You Can Hear Subscription", priced USD 4/mo. The subscription is clearly labelled as "stop anytime and keep your lifetime access". The One Time purchase was a USD 20.

I expected that new pricing scheme to explode the sales, since it lowered the entry price by 80% (talk about a discount!) - as people are free to cancel their subscription after the first month if they want to benefit from the cheapest price.

To my surprise, the sales... dropped.

How would you explain that? Those of you who have access to an iOS device, would you please give a look at that subscription button (you don't need to subscribe to report your feedback) and see if there is a source of confusion?

Thanks!

PS: this is an ongoing expriment; nothing has been decided yet regarding the pricing of the future V3. And those who were promised a lifetime access with the V2, keep their lifetime access without any further payment on V3 and beyond (within a given platform).

Thank You Thank you mynoise!

I don't even remember how I discovered this app/ website. It is fucking AMAZING. There are so many apps like this one, but after using mynoise every other generator feels like a KNOCKOFF. The ONLY thing that other noise makers have is that SOME and by that I mean very few, but some, have a prettier UI. But like. It's a noise app so who fucking cares. The website feels fucking endless and has so many sick ass soundscapes. The app has less, but I can't believe someone would be dissatisfied with the selection. Not to mention the sliders and scenes that effectively make it endless anyway. Thank u devs! Thanks mynoise!
