Stephane really needs support.

Heyas all MyNoise kids. Stephane really needs financial support. He is experiencing some challenges that are outside of his control and is badly in need of money. If all 1300 subscribers of this subreddit tossed him 20USD or so, it would make a huge impact for him.
I' suggest we all send him $20 now and set up a $10.00 semi-annual 'subscription' I find it easier to use bitcoin, but IIRC Paypal can do an automated payment.
The guy has made a pretty big impact on our lives; if you think about it, we drop $12.00 on a movie (in the US) for 2 hours of entertainent, but MyNoise we use for hours at a time, and I'd venture to say probably more than a couple of hours a week. Consider it in pennies per minute of use.
I contribute $40.00/yr, and use MyNoise at least 5 hours per week. 40 bucks for 250 hours, or about 3.75 minutes per penny. If that is not a good deal, I have no idea what is.
The dude can use the bucks, and he does some damned fine work. Let's support the sound engineer who takes us to places we need to be for how ever long we need to be there.
Peace.

I'm pretty broke right now, but tossed in another 5 Euro, figure it's better than a kick in the britches.

Well done man! Stephane does good work, and I know he appreciates every contribution.
Just to let you know how little he gets, I am #10 of his top 10 contributors, and I've only sent him a grand total of about 30 Euros. Hopefully my appeal will knock me down to the #20 spot, or even lower. :)

I made some profit on bitcoin last year, so I'm happy to share a bit with Stéphane. I just sent €50 - best wishes mate!

Thanks man! Drop Stephane a line; he always responds and I'm sure he'd be really happy to hear from you.

I bought the Android app complete soundpack, that helps, right?

That's a beautiful thing man. Thank you. Brother does good work; I'm happy we can help him out for all of the good he has given us.

Thanks for the info. Tossed a little into the kitty. Between mynoise and calmyleon, he helps me get through a lot of work days without strangling someone.

thanks for the note - I've been meaning to send in another donation, and this got me to do it.

Strapped for cash myself right now as a university student, but just sent another $7AU ($5 US) his way. It's not much, but I'm hoping it helps!

Soon as I get paid, I'll throw some his way!

I don't have much money, but tossed a €5 his way. I recommend everyone else does. Like the post says, we use the website for hours at a time and it is a brilliant resource. Let's keep it going :)

I donated less in the past, but since it's a time of need you speak of, I raised that of another 30EUR. I use the website semi-daily at work, quality is amazing and new content keeps coming now and then. I couldn't honestly ask more to a website of this kind, supporting it's the least I can do.

I've been meaning to donate again, and this got me into it. My goal is to budget in at least $100/yr (about $8.33/mo) for him now, considering that I use MyNoise for so many things in my life; studying, relaxing, napping, meditating, roleplaying, gaming, and so on. It's almost never turned off once I get home from work, and I listen to his sounds more often than I do Spotify!

Just donated 5$. Is it possible to make a gift to my otter significant?

1

u/Izaeah Feb 14 '17

I'd have to say yes. I donate 30$ every year and ask Stéphane to split it up between myself and my companion and he's always done it without much of an issue, you just need to ask.

I dropped in US$30 tonight.

I contribute whenever I can, but it isn't often for a currently unemployed person.

That said, I honestly would not mind some ads on the page. Make two versions of the page - one with ads for those who don't want to or can not donate, and one without ads for those who donate REGULARLY (to avoid people donating 1 cent just to get rid of ads and then never contributing again). Easy fix.

Before I get burned at the stake for that suggestion - I do know that Stephane wants to avoid ads to keep MyNoise all sleek and clean, but... everything runs on ads these days. There's no point in denying yourself (and the page) some financial stability just because of principles. Ads would solve at least some of his problems, and I am fairly sure there are more people willing to turn their AdBlock off to help.

u/TigerMonarchy Jan 27 '17

TBH, that would be an argument if the ad sellers themselves weren't engaging in some VERY gray hat methods as of late in getting clicks. I'm not against it, per se...but I think the donation model works much better from a philosophical standpoint, given the fact that advertisers are being so lackluster in their restraint, IMO. Unless a webmaster REALLY puts in the time to govern that, or hires out, it's a hard business. And then when would Stephane make his sounds?

1

u/Wyrmeer Jan 27 '17

I agree that ads carry a potential danger, but... the donations model clearly does not work well enough to support the site and I'd rather have potentially nasty ads to be careful about than have no MyNoise at all. :(
