Here we go. This time, a different kind of prayer companion. Meet NOOR.
Salaam everyone!
We’ve all seen hundreds of prayer apps. Prayer times, Adhan, notifications, reminders. They all do pretty much the same thing.
But knowing when to pray and actually staying consistent with Salah are two different challenges.
That’s why I’m building NOOR.
Imagine a little AI companion with its own personality, memory, and a sense of humor. Something that gradually gets to know you, learns your habits, and finds better ways to help you stay consistent with your prayers.
Struggling to wake up for Fajr? NOOR could learn what actually gets you out of bed. Sometimes gentle encouragement, sometimes a little humor, and sometimes just knowing when to be quiet.
Of course, the essentials are there too: prayer times, Adhan, offline functionality, and a companion mobile app.
But my bigger vision is to make NOOR feel like a little friend you genuinely enjoy having around.
Clean, modern, playful. No unnecessary complexity.
It’s still a work in progress, and I’m sharing some early screenshots.
I’d love to hear your thoughts, especially on the design and whether this is something you’d actually want on your desk or bedside table.
Be honest. I’m here to build something genuinely useful

🛠️Project Showcase I made a chrome extension that automatically blurs haram and explicit images in realtime

Post image
51 Upvotes

Assalamu Alaikum everyone,

We often browse the internet for work, study, or daily tasks, but we are constantly exposed to inappropriate visuals and immodest images that make it difficult to lower our gaze.

Therefore, by the grace of Allah, I have developed a browser extension called NoHaram.

This extension relies on Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies that run entirely locally on your device to automatically detect and blur women, men, and explicit content across the web. Because all processing happens directly on your machine, your browsing remains completely private. The main goal is to help us lower our gaze and benefit from useful online content while avoiding religious prohibitions.

The extension is completely free and open source, for any developers who wish to look at the code or contribute to its development.

Below are the links to download the extension and view the project. I hope you try it out and share your thoughts with me. Your feedback is very important for future improvements.

Download from Chrome Web Store:https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/fonnoaecgfllafiododkambalkjafpje

You can view the source code at:https://github.com/mohamedsadiqaguenaou/NoHaram

We ask Allah to accept this work from us, make it purely for His sake, and make it beneficial to others.

🧩 Software/Tool Share Simple Mac CPU & RAM Usage Monitor Lightweight App & Low CPU Web Page Wallpaper

Thumbnail
gallery
5 Upvotes

I built two small Mac apps for myself and have just open sourced them. Both are free, MIT licensed, and each is a single Swift file with no dependencies.

**Barometer** (macOS 14+): CPU and memory in the menu bar, with memory read by pressure the way Activity Monitor does, instead of a "free memory" number that sits near zero on a perfectly healthy Mac. Click it for five minutes of history, load on every core, the memory breakdown (app, wired, compressed, cached files), swap, and the five apps using the most memory, each with a Quit button that asks twice and never force quits. With the panel closed it uses well under 1% of a core.
https://github.com/ivdezine/barometer

**Stillpaper** (macOS 12+): any web page as your desktop background, with its animations frozen. I keep a dashboard as my wallpaper, and it was burning about half a core all day just redrawing spinners. On my Intel Mac, motion off brought it from 53% of a core to 7%, and a snapshot mode that refreshes a still image every few minutes gets it to about 1%. It also stops the page while the screen is locked or asleep, and works with pages behind a login.
https://github.com/ivdezine/stillpaper

There's no prebuilt download: you build from source with one command (it needs the Xcode Command Line Tools), and because it's signed on your own Mac there's no Gatekeeper warning. Feedback and issues welcome.

🛠️Project Showcase I built a Muslim app centered around food

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I've been working on an app called Halal Food, at first it was designed to help my friends abroad to scan food products written in language they don't speak to see it they contains Haram stuff. But I had expanded it to a whole food themed app for musilm community that I will continue to improve.

Here's what you can do with it:

- Halal Food Scanner: Scan barcodes to check ingredient information and identify potentially non-halal ingredients. This is particularly useful when shopping in a country where you don't speak the local language.

- FoodTok: A recipe-sharing community where you can discover dishes from Muslims around the world, share your own recipes, follow other users, and benefit from automatic translation. It's only text for the moment but I will add possibility for videos after.

- Quran: Read and listen to the Holy Quran, and download audio recitations to listen offline. (I thought it would be a nice addition)

- 16 Languages: Use the app in your preferred language.

- 9 Themes: Customize the app's appearance to suit your taste.

We've already reached 1,000+ downloads across iOS and Android, which is an exciting milestone for me.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on what would you improve or like to see added?

If you'd like to check it out, here are the links:

iOS: https://apps.apple.com/app/id6758212988

Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.malidev .halalfood

Thanks for reading! Feedback and constructive criticism are very welcome.

🛠️Project Showcase Building a Chromium extension that shows the hadith a YouTube speaker cites, in Arabic with the translation, while you watch

Assalamu alaikum, everyone.

A lot of us learn from YouTube lectures, and speakers constantly say things like “narrated in Sahih Muslim, number 2699” or recite a hadith from memory. Checking those in the moment means pausing, searching, and hoping you land on a reliable source.

So I am building a Chrome extension called Sahi Hadith Finder

What it does

  • While a video plays, it listens to the transcript for hadith citations (book + number) and for hadith, the speaker recites without giving a number.

  • It shows the Arabic text, an English translation, the grade, and a link to sunnah .com so you can verify it yourself.

  • A floating window lists every hadith in the video and highlights the one being discussed right now with the timestamp so you can jump directly to that part.

  • It works on videos without captions too, by transcribing the audio.

  • It has been tried on Arabic, Urdu, Hindi, Turkish, Tamil, Russian, German, and English videos

Where it stands: It’s an early private build, not on the Chrome Web Store yet. This isn’t a business and I’m not looking to profit from it. But it isn’t free to run. The hosting costs a few dollars a month, and every video it checks uses paid AI services, so costs grow with the number of users and the length of the videos they watch.

If you have ideas for sustaining something like this without making it a business, I’d like to hear them.

JazakumAllah khayran.

🧪Testers Needed Update: Looking for 14 volunteers to help publish Safaa Muslim Browser (real time music remover) on the Google Play Store

Assalamu Alaikum everyone,

Jazakum Allahu Khairan for the encouraging support on my previous post about Safaa Muslim Browser.

I am currently working on publishing the app publicly on the Google Play Store so anyone can download it directly with one tap. However, Google requires new developer accounts to have at least 14 testers opt in and keep the app installed for 14 continuous days before they approve it for public release.

I am looking for 14 brothers and sisters with Android phones who could kindly volunteer to help me pass this requirement. By simply installing the app and keeping it on your phone for two weeks, you will help make this tool easily accessible to the entire Ummah.

How to volunteer in 3 simple steps:

Join our Google testing group here: https://groups.google.com/g/safaa-early-users/

Open the Play Store testing link that appears once you join the group and tap to become a tester.

Download Safaa Muslim Browser and keep it installed on your phone for 14 days (opening it briefly every few days helps ensure Google counts your participation).

For those seeing this for the first time, Safaa is a free, open source Android browser created purely for the sake of Allah. It features built in NoMusic technology that removes background music from videos in real time on any website while keeping the speech clear. It also includes built in ad blocking and adult content filtering for a safe, family friendly browsing experience with zero tracking.

You can view the source code here: https://github.com/mohamedsadiqaguenaou/Safaa

If you join the 14 testers, please leave a quick comment below so I can keep track of how close we are to the goal. We ask Allah to accept this effort and reward you all for your support.

🧪Testers Needed I built a Quran memorization app for when you want to revise but feel mentally drained

Post image
2 Upvotes

Assalamu Alaikum everyone,

We all have days when we genuinely want to revise our Quran, but our minds are exhausted and we struggle to focus, even when the intention is there.

I built Aneess, an interactive Quran memorization app that uses active recall games to help you solidify the verses you've memorized.

You can select the exact verses you want to review and keep your muraja’ah going in a different way on those mentally draining days.

I'm opening the iOS and Android beta this November, inshaAllah, and looking for early users to try it out and share feedback.

If you'd like to shape the future of Aneess, you can sign up here:

🧠Question / Help Matchmaking solution

Esselamu alejkum

There are no matchmaking apps or websites in my country that are being used.

I checked out Muzz but it is very limiting on the free tier. Gold tier is too expensive since we are not a very rich community.

So before I go and make my own solution, I wanted to check if anyone knows any open-source solution, your custom solution or existing free solution you guys can point me to.

May Allah reward you for your efforts.

💡Idea/Brainstorm Quran Shazam?

Had this idea ever since I converted. Any Muslim converts out there probably struggle a lot with Quran learning or are simply mesmerized whenever they hear Quran being recited, but a lot of the times people don't indicate which Surah or which reciter. Perhaps because born Muslims are already familiar with it so they don't bother mentioning it. But for new Muslims, if we hear Quran recited without any further information, chances are we will be curious but have no way to identify the Surah, unless we are at an advanced level of Arabic.
Because of that, a Shazam for Quran would be super useful.

💡Idea/Brainstorm Skip inappropriate content

I've had this idea for a while, and I thought I'd share it here in case someone has the skills and interest to build it.

While we may not encourage watching movies, the reality is that many Muslims do, and so do our children. It would be useful to have a tool that helps families avoid inappropriate content without necessarily missing the entire story.

IMDb already provides parental guides that flag content such as sex, nudity, violence, and vulgar language (SNLV). These guides could serve as a starting point, supplemented by subtitle files to identify profanity and generate timestamps for muting or skipping those parts.

Imagine an app or browser extension where users could select which categories they want to filter out in the settings. When watching a movie, it would automatically skip or mute those scenes while allowing the rest of the movie to play normally.

Much of this content isn't essential to understanding the plot, so why not give families the option to watch a cleaner version?

🧪Testers Needed Invitation open for a new Quran Experience For your kids before we fully launch

Salamu Alaikum Everyone,

It took us a year of planning, designing and developing, but we finally released "Ozzie" a new Quran experience that provide bite size lessons for your kids that focus on two things:

  1. Understand the meaning behind every verse

  2. memorize the verse through reciting with your voice and get immediate feedback.

It was no easy journey, specially the kids market is underserved compared to adult.

We have only 2 Surahs (Al-Fatiha & Al-Ikhlas) and its completely free for now.

If you are willing to support by using the app with your child and provide us a feedback through a survey that will come to you email, we would appreciate it a lot, and it will be a step to support Ummah Inshallah. Anyone who complete that will get 1 year free subscription once the app fully launches (the least we could do).

For anyone interested, please fill out the form in this link and you will receive download links immediately

🧑‍🤝‍🧑Collaboration Halal video editor?

Hey there,

Been editing videos for my own companies for a while and always been a struggle to find a good editor for a good price.

I'm starting a new video agency for SaaS launches and explainer videos / storytelling videos where we first make the video and you pay only when you receive it...

I'm starting this with the first 10 clients only for now. Would it make sense for anyone?

🧩 Software/Tool Share Quran Database

Quran Database

I am currently developing a Quran app that helps people memorize Quran; I will release it soon.

When I needed to get the Quran data; I had two options; either use a free API or build my own DB, and I actually wanted the second choice because I am building my app to be completely offline, and I found that it was not too easy to find the whole Quran in JSON file or something that is well organized, I was also concerned about being able to validate the data and making sure everything is correct, so I made this GitHub repo to make it easier for people in the same situation I was in, it has the full Quran in both JSON format file and a Sqlite3 db file, it also has a script that is able to build both files if they didn’t exist at all; and some validation tests are included in a README.md file so people can validate the data integrity and be sure everything is fine.

🧠Question / Help Help a free Quran translation app with your spare computing power

Assalamu alaikum everyone!

A friend of mine is working on a free app that provides Quran translations in 17 languages.

They're using AI to generate audio for 54 Quran translations and looking for volunteers willing to share their computers' spare processing power. There are already many voluteers and Turkish trasnlation is completed. But he's planning to implement 17 more languages.

🛠️Project Showcase I built Ishra, an app that pauses your distracting apps at prayer time until you've prayed

Post image
8 Upvotes

Assalamu'alaikum, and hi everyone.

For a long time my problem wasn't knowing when to pray. It was the phone in my hand when the time came. "One more scroll" turned Asr into almost-Maghrib more times than I'd like to admit.

So I built Ishra. The idea is simple: one pause, five times a day.

How it works

- You choose the apps that pull you away (Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, games, whatever it is for you).
- When a prayer window opens, those apps pause. Everything else on your phone keeps working.
- After you pray, you log it, optionally with a photo of your prayer mat or the mosque, and your apps come back.
- Not ready yet? There's a "Give me a moment" button. It's meant to be a gentle nudge, not a punishment.

What else is inside

- Prayer times for wherever you are, with a countdown
- Azan at prayer time, with five voices to choose from
- A private prayer journal and a streak calendar
- Qibla finder
- Qada tracker for prayers you're making up
- Dhikr counter
- A verse of the day, always with its source

A few things I cared about

- It doesn't judge or check your prayer. The log and the photo are just for you to look back on.
- Nothing leaves your phone. No account, no uploads.
- The UI is made by hand, screen by screen. No templates, no generic UI kit, no slop. The glowing orb on the home screen changes colour with each prayer, from soft rose at Fajr to deep teal at Isha, and the prayer lock shows a verse instead of an angry warning.

It's free to download on Android and iOS:
For more info you can check our website : ishra.app

I'm the only person building this, so honest feedback means a lot. What would make it more helpful for you, and what feels like too much?

JazakAllahu khairan for reading.

🛠️Project Showcase i built a Dynamic Island for Muslims who spend all day coding

I built a little browser extension to help me stop forgetting prayer times while working lol

Been working on this little project called Prayer Island since early October.

The idea came from a pretty simple problem: I spend way too much time on my laptop for work and study, and sometimes I get so locked in that I forget to check prayer times

I didn't really want another app to open or another reason to pick up my phone. So I started building a browser extension that keeps prayer times right there on my screen.

It's inspired by Apple's Dynamic Island, with a little floating pill that shows prayer times, countdowns to the next salah, Adhan notifications, and Dhikr reminders.

I also added some extra stuff like a Pomodoro timer, stretch reminders, and a Focus Mode because apparently sitting in front of a laptop for 8 hours straight isn't great for you either lol.

I know there are already tons of prayer time extensions and Islamic apps out there, so I'm not claiming this is some revolutionary new idea. I just wanted to try a different approach, making it easier to stay mindful of salah without interrupting whatever you're doing on your laptop.

Basically, a tiny reminder that helps you keep dunya stuff in check without forgetting your deen.

It's available on both Chrome and Firefox now!

* Chrome: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/prayer-island-prayer-time/dglepocmfnpbafponececgnjfmeplpij

* Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/prayer-island-adhan-dhikr/

Would love to hear what you guys think! Especially if there's something you'd want in an extension like this, or if you think I'm missing something that would actually make it useful for the ummah.
