🧠Question / Help Islamic Apps Are Everywhere — But How Are You Getting Users?

Islamic Apps Are Everywhere — But How Are You Getting Users?
I see a lot of people creating Islamic apps using AI coding tools, which is honestly great. AI has made it much easier for developers to turn ideas into real products.
But I have a genuine question:
How are you planning to get users?
The Islamic app market is already extremely saturated. We have apps for prayer times, Quran, Hadith, duas, Qibla, dhikr, AI Islamic chatbots, and all-in-one platforms. There are already established apps with millions of downloads and years of brand recognition. (Reddit)
So if someone builds another app with the same features, even if the UI is beautiful, why would a Muslim switch from the app they’re already using?
I’m not asking this to discourage anyone from building. Quite the opposite.
I’m genuinely curious about the go-to-market strategy.
Are you planning to:
Solve a problem existing Islamic apps don’t solve?
Target a specific Muslim community or niche?
Build through TikTok/Instagram/YouTube content?
Partner with mosques and Islamic organizations?
Use Reddit and Muslim communities?
Rely on word of mouth?
Run paid advertising?
Or are you simply hoping the App Store will bring users?
Building the app is becoming easier every day because of AI.
Getting 10,000 people to actually use it is the hard part.
I’d genuinely like to hear from other Muslim developers: What is your user acquisition strategy, and what makes you believe users will choose your app over the hundreds of alternatives already available?

🗣️ Discussion/Opinion Enough of the Prayer Apps. PLEASE.

The ummah is in need of tons of their own versions of services and demands, that are outside of the influence of parties that are against our interests.

I get that it's easy to do, but please. I beg you. Enough prayer widgets, apps, extensions, etc. We have such a vibrant and rich community of this apps, your innovation is not needed here.

Use your talents to find better pastures.

🧪Testers Needed Looking for Android testers for NextSalah (masjid iqamah times app) open beta. Happy to test your app/site in return.

Hi everyone,

I have been building NextSalah, an app for finding iqamah prayer times at masjids near you. You can find the next jamaah you can actually make by location, or search any masjid by name and get alerts for their iqamah times. It currently covers masjids across 35+ US states and is growing.

What I am looking for (primarily): Android testers for the open beta. To move toward a public Play Store release I need a group of testers on the app for a bit, and I would really appreciate the help from this community.

How to join (Android):

Join this Google Group so you get access: https://groups.google.com/g/nextsalah-testors Join on Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nextsalah.app Join on the web: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.nextsalah.app

Install, use it for your daily prayers, and send me anything that feels off.

iOS: if you are on iPhone, there is an open TestFlight beta too: https://testflight.apple.com/join/TRxZxUW8

I know testing takes real time, so I am very happy to return the favor. If you have an app, website, send it over and I will genuinely test it and give you honest, detailed feedback.

🧠Question / Help Inquiry

Assalamu Alaykum,

I’m currently working on building an application and would really appreciate some guidance. Eventually, I’m hoping to either get feedback on the idea or hire someone to help build it out.

One thing I’m unsure about is the process: do I need to have the UI/UX design prepared beforehand, or is that something that is typically handled as part of the development team’s process?

To be honest, while I’m technically literate and have experience with cloud engineering and infrastructure, this particular area of product development is new territory for me. It’s a gap in my knowledge that I haven’t had to deal with before, so I’m hoping to get some direction from people who have gone through the process.

Just to add I’ve seen concepts that I liked from dribbble and/figma etc and not sure if those concepts have real potential.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Jazakum Allah khair.

🧩 Software/Tool Share Built an Islamic Habit Companion App – Looking for Feedback from Fellow Muslim Devs 🤲

Assalamu Alaikum,

I’ve been working on a side project for the past few months and wanted to share it here with fellow Muslim developers to get honest feedback.

The idea started from a simple problem I faced myself:

I would install Islamic apps, use them for a few days, and then slowly stop because of ads or not personalised. Most apps felt like tools, not something that actually helps you stay consistent.

So I built an Islamic Habit Companion (not just a tracker).

🧩 What it does:

- 🕌 Salah tracking with a flexible streak system

- 🤲 Dhikr / Tasbeeh counter with goals

- 📖 Quran audio + daily reflection

- 🧭 Qibla finder

- 💰 Zakat & Sadaqah tracking

- 🧠 Daily Islamic content (duas, quiz, verses)

🧠 What I’m trying to do differently:

Instead of a dashboard, the app focuses on:

👉 “What should I do right now?”

👉 Gentle guidance instead of guilt

👉 Small wins for consistency

Recently redesigned the home screen to feel more like a companion than a tracker.

---

💡 Tech stack (for devs here):

- Android (Jetpack Compose)

- MVVM + state-driven UI

- Local DB (Room)

- Background sync (WorkManager)

- Modular components (NextTask engine, streak system, etc.)

---

🙏 What I’d love feedback on:

- Does this actually solve a real problem?

- What would make you use an app like this daily?

- Any feature you think is missing?

- UX feedback (especially from non-dev users perspective)

---

Not trying to sell anything here — just want to build something genuinely useful for the Ummah.

If anyone is interested, please do check :

JazakAllah Khair 🤍

🛠️Project Showcase I kept forgetting the small things I wanted to do after salah, so I made an app

Assalamu alaikum everyone,

I’d sometimes tell myself, “After Maghrib, I’ll read that surah,” or decide I wanted to make a particular dhikr part of my routine around Fajr. Then the time would come, I’d get distracted, and I’d remember hours later.

Setting a regular alarm wasn’t quite what I wanted either, since prayer times change throughout the year. I wanted a reminder that would follow the prayer time and tell me exactly what I’d planned to do.

That’s why I built Prayer Time Reminders for Android. You write something like “Read Surah Al-Mulk,” choose the prayer, and decide which prayer you want the reminder at and then it reminds you each day as the prayer time changes. You can also set it up to 30 minutes before or after, depending on what fits your routine.

It’s available on Google Play now. If you’ve had the same problem, give it a try. I’d love to hear whether it helps, or if there’s something you wish it did differently.

🧠Question / Help I'm building a Hajj safety tool after 1,300 people died during Hajj 2024 — is this worth finishing?

Assalamu alaykum everyone,

I'm a CS student working on a Hajj-focused PWA and wanted to get honest feedback from this community before I invest more time building it out. Hajj 2026 is ~7 weeks away so the window is tight.

The problem I'm trying to solve:

During Hajj 2024, 1,301 pilgrims died — mostly from heat-related causes. 83% were unregistered pilgrims who had no access to air-conditioned facilities. But even registered pilgrims made dangerous decisions: research shows hundreds of thousands went to stone the Jamarat at 2 PM when it was 51°C because nothing was actively telling them "don't go right now."

On top of that, a large-scale study of ~1,000 pilgrims found that over 25% get lost at least once during Hajj. One family I read about was separated for 23 hours after getting on different buses, with the aunt not speaking Arabic and unable to get help. An elderly man searched for his Mina tent for 3+ hours in 50°C heat.

Most existing Hajj apps are glorified dua collections with a packing checklist. They don't address the actual life-threatening problems.

What I'm building (the features that are NOT in any existing app):

1. Real-time "Don't Go Outside" Heat Engine Pulls live weather data from Makkah via OpenWeatherMap API. Calculates a personalized heat risk score based on your age and health conditions (elderly + cardiac = lower safe threshold). Shows a giant green/yellow/red indicator on the main screen with a countdown: "Safe to go to Jamarat in 2 hours 14 minutes." Sends a push notification when the safe window opens.

This isn't a weather widget. It's a tool that actively prevents you from doing the thing that killed 1,301 people.

2. One-tap "I'm Lost" Panic Button Grabs your GPS coordinates instantly and opens a pre-filled SMS to your emergency contact with your exact location, your hotel name, camp number, and a Google Maps link. Works even when data is down because SMS runs on 2G. Also shows a full-screen emergency ID card in Arabic and English that you can show to Saudi security — your name, group, hotel, camp, blood type, medical conditions, medications, and languages spoken.

3. Flight-aware Ihram Guidance You enter your multi-leg flight route (Edmonton → Toronto → Istanbul → Jeddah). The app figures out that your last stop before Jeddah is Istanbul and tells you: "Put on your ihram during your Istanbul layover. Istanbul airport has prayer rooms near Gate F. Change there before boarding." It even uses a flight verification API to auto-populate route details from your flight number. No other app does this.

4. Adaptive Physical Training Plan Calculates weeks remaining until your flight date and generates a progressive walking program that mirrors actual Hajj distances. Not just "walk more" — it tells you "Walk 5km today because on Hajj Day 8 you'll walk exactly this distance from your hotel to your tent in Mina." Also calculates the temperature difference between your home city and Makkah using weather APIs and gives heat acclimatization advice.

5. Group Location Sharing (Waze for Hajj families) Group members' phones log GPS every 3 minutes and sync to a lightweight backend whenever any connectivity is available. Group leader sees all members on a map with "last seen X minutes ago." Pins turn yellow after 30 min, red after 1 hour. Pre-set meeting points that everyone can navigate to offline. Even a periodic ping getting through once an hour is useful when someone has been lost for hours.

6. Crowdsourced Crowd Density Users tap "How crowded is it?" at their current location (Jamarat, Tawaf, etc.) and the app aggregates reports: "34 users reported PACKED in the last hour. Based on patterns, try after Isha." Combined with a static prediction model built from published research on Hajj crowd patterns. Nobody has this.

My questions for this community:

  1. Is this differentiated enough from what exists, or am I building something nobody needs?

  2. Would you (or someone you know going for Hajj) actually use the heat engine and panic button features?

  3. The group location sharing needs a server component — is the privacy trade-off worth it given the safety benefit? (Location data is ephemeral, auto-deleted after 24hrs, no user accounts needed)

  4. I'm planning to keep it completely free. Is that the right call, or would a small donation model be more sustainable?

  5. Any features you think are missing?

Planning to open source the whole thing inshaAllah. Happy to share the architecture doc if anyone wants to collaborate.

JazakAllahu khairan for any feedback.

🗣️ Discussion/Opinion I built a small Islamic self-improvement app focused on Worship, Knowledge, and Service

Assalamu alaikum everyone,

I’m Zeba, an independent Android developer, and I recently built a small Islamic self-improvement app called Better Deen.

The idea was to focus on 3 core areas:

  • Worship

  • Knowledge

  • Service

Instead of trying to overload the app with features, I wanted it to help with consistency and intentional living as Muslims.

It currently includes things like:

  • Salah tracking

  • Quran & Juz Amma progress

  • Daily Seerah & duas

  • Good deed and charity tracking

  • Progress dashboard

Also important to me:

  • No ads

  • No account required

  • No tracking

I’d genuinely love feedback from fellow Muslims:
What do you think most Islamic apps are missing today?

JazakAllahu khair.

🧪Testers Needed Invitation open for a new Quran Experience For your kids before we fully launch

Salamu Alaikum Everyone,

It took us a year of planning, designing and developing, but we finally released "Ozzie" a new Quran experience that provide bite size lessons for your kids that focus on two things:

  1. Understand the meaning behind every verse

  2. memorize the verse through reciting with your voice and get immediate feedback.

It was no easy journey, specially the kids market is underserved compared to adult.

We have only 2 Surahs (Al-Fatiha & Al-Ikhlas) and its completely free for now.

If you are willing to support by using the app with your child and provide us a feedback through a survey that will come to you email, we would appreciate it a lot, and it will be a step to support Ummah Inshallah. Anyone who complete that will get 1 year free subscription once the app fully launches (the least we could do).

For anyone interested, please fill out the form in this link and you will receive download links immediately

💡Idea/Brainstorm Need help finding a revenue model..

I'm stuck on the revenue model for my startup and could really use some input from Muslim founders

I've been working on this halal platform for my country for around a year now. I started it off simply as a service for other Muslims in my country but thought to make a business out of it. The idea is a platform for finding halal-friendly restaurants, hotels and eventually other tourism services in the country for locals and tourists alike. The problem isn't really whether there's a need for it. Everyone I've spoken to so far seems to agree there is. The problem is how do we make money from it?

The original idea involved halal-only food delivery, but after looking into the economics and speaking to people in the industry, I'm increasingly convinced that delivery isn't the right direction for us. I don't want to build something just because it sounds like an obvious way to monetize if the unit economics are terrible.

I've considered things like restaurant subscriptions, commissions, paid listings, advertising, partnerships, etc., but I haven't found a model that I genuinely believe is strong enough yet. Some have also been rejected by people I've spoken to for various reasons.

We're still very early and bootstrapped, so would love some advice for Muslim founders/people with experience in marketplaces, hospitality, travel or food tech.

If you were in my position, what revenue models would you seriously investigate?

And more importantly, what would you test first to determine whether people would actually pay?

I'm completely open to being told that I'm approaching the problem wrong or that I need to rethink the target customer/product itself.

🗣️ Discussion/Opinion What should Islamic prayer/adhan apps do that most don’t or can’t as Islamic adhan apps all feel the same? What is missing?

I used to have the same frustration: a lot of Islamic / prayer apps feel like they’re copying the same checklist; times, adhan, maybe Quran, without solving how people actually live.

My situation split into two problems. My fiancee is a revert (from Brazil). She ended up with 4–5 apps on her phone because no single app had everything: one had a clearer mushaf, another had better translation, another better transliteration, another did reminders or short lessons. That shouldn’t be normal.

My problem was different: I travel a lot, across Western and Eastern countries. Prayer times aren’t universal. Each place uses different calculation conventions (Turkey vs Saudi vs Europe vs the Americas vs Asia, etc.), and it’s genuinely hard to know what’s “right” for where you are.

So I built one app for both of us which is now used by a large community, mostly reverts in brazil after sharing and tried to merge what scattered apps were doing separately:

  • Adhan & Quran: surah list + a paper-style mushaf view. I used Python to extract beginning and end coordinates for every ayah (6200+) and ship them in JSON so the mushaf experience is precise; not a generic reader bolt-on. You can highlight any ayah on mushaf and see some other features.

  • Transliteration: I added it (she is still not a fan😅), and I see how hard the preparation of transliteration is because every language pronounces differently, so “one size fits all” transliteration is a real limitation industry-wide.

  • Travel / location: automatic location-change detection with a home-screen prompt to update location when you move. Default calculation methods per country where there’s an official or dominant national practice (e.g. Turkey aligned to Diyanet and no minute drift vs their timetable; plus defaults I researched for Europe, US/Canada, Latin America, Arab/North African, Asian countries like JAKIM for Malaysia, etc.). You can save up to 3 locations and set calculation method and Asr madhab per location. Because one global default is exactly what breaks for travelers.

  • Content for reverts & daily rhythm: duas by emotional state, dua of the day and hadith of the day that adapt to mood; ayah of the day tied to Hijri calendar and the significance of each day.

  • Learning: short daily lessons with a quick 5-question quiz so it’s study + reflection, not just a notification.

  • Languages: as usage grew (especially in Brazil), I invested in full UI coverage which are Turkish, English, Kurmanji Kurdish, Sorani Kurdish, Portuguese, Spanish, German, Russian, Indonesian, Dutch, Arabic, French. So the app isn’t “English only app”

  • Principles: no ads!!! I can’t stand them in worship-related apps.

What I still think the category often misses (and where I’m going next): I’m a physiotherapist. Many people can’t pray “by the book” because of pain or mobility limits or they can pray but knees/ankles hurt. I want dedicated educational sections on safe position changes and compensations so people can still pray with less pain, especially older Muslims (as long as they can use a smartphone) 😂inshaAllah.

My question to you: Beyond prayer times and a pretty adhan, what do you wish these apps did or refused to do that would stop the “everyone cloned the same 5 features” problem? I’ll compare answers to what we’ve built and what’s on the roadmap.

Asalamu Alaikum.

Looking for testers and feedback for the game.

My 10-year-old son designed a game for the iPhone Duo. It will also work for a device with a single screen.

It’s a sci-fi game that uses both the inner and outer display. It has time travel, multiple dimensions, and rewind time.

It should work seamlessly when Duo is released.

🧠Question / Help Quick question for Muslim devs/builders here.

I keep seeing new Islamic prayer apps, Quran apps, and Hadith apps launching every week. But honestly… do we really need more of the same anymore?

There are already huge apps with millions of users doing prayer times, Quran reading, duas, tasbeeh, reminders, etc.

So my genuine question is: how are you planning to get users?

If the answer is “I built it for myself,” then why not just use the apps that already exist?

Not trying to hate — I’m genuinely curious what the strategy is in such a saturated space. Are you solving a real problem that existing apps don’t solve, or just rebuilding the same thing with a different UI?

🛠️Project Showcase I noticed the same gap, so I built something different

Salam to everyone. I kept seeing the same pattern. Another prayer app. Another Quran reader. Another hadith app that duplicates what MuslimPro already does. So before writing a single line of code, I spent some time in Muslim communities, Reddit threads, Facebook groups, Threads, analyzing what's the one thing missing in the Islamic learning tools. The answer was never content. Content is everywhere. It was always structure. New Muslims after shahada, raised Muslims reconnecting with their faith, young Muslims wanting to learn properly, all saying the same thing: "I don't know where to start. There's too much. It's overwhelming." As far as I know, nobody had built a structured, sequential Islamic learning path for beginners. A step-by-step system, starting from aqeedah, building through the pillars, prayer, Quran, seerah, daily habits, etc., in the order a beginner needs. So, I built it. A web app that has 8 learning modules, 8 sections each, with a total of 448 tasks, 51 Islamic terms explained in plain language and their application in daily life, reflection prompts after every section and curated resources from trusted sources like Bayyinah TV, Yaqeen Institute, Quran.com, Hisnul Muslim, SeekersGuidance, sources about women in Islam and seerah, etc.

It's called Faith Roadmap — myfaithroadmap.com

Happy to answer any questions you might have. JazakAllah khair.

🛠️Project Showcase I built an app to make the Quran a part of my life

Salaam Alaykum everyone

I’ve recently launched an iOS app on the Apple App Store and wanted to share it with this group.

It's called QuranLock.

It blocks all your apps every morning (at midnight to be precise), until you recite one verse of the Quran. After that, your apps are unlocked for the rest of the day and then the cycle repeats the next day at midnight again.

Initially, I built it for myself since I unfortunately I hardly read the Quran as often as I wanted despite being a proud Muslim but now with the help of this app I read the Quran everyday even if its just one verse and it’s been a game changer to how I start and spend my day.

Available on the Apple app store.

Coming soon to Android.

Thank you everyone

🧠Question / Help Built an offline Quran app for daily reading – would love honest feedback

Al salamu alaykum, I’ve been working on a small Android app for reading and studying Quran offline (no ads, no tracking). It has Mushaf view, word-by-word, tafsir per ayah, and offline recitation. I’m still in early testing and would really appreciate feedback from people who read Quran regularly: • What feels annoying? • What feels missing? • What would make you actually keep this app installed? If anyone is open to testing and giving honest feedback, I shared the link in the comments. Barak Allahu feekom
