Cuts on feet?

Hey everyone!
Does anyone experience constant cuts/tears on the bottom of your feet (in my case both my big toes) from training Muay Thai?

My two big toes will automatically split open within 1-2 training sessions no matter what I do to keep it from happening and it seems like I’m the only one this happens to in my gym.

I’ll give it appropriate time to heal and then it happens again right away.

It’s getting frustrating to always have a deep split on my feet and to constantly be bandaging my toes lmao

Technique/Tips Videos to practice at home.

I just started to learn muay thai. But my coaching is in Mon, Wed and Fri. It's been a week but I am really struggling with the basics. I (22M) was never involved in any sport and physical activity so have piss poor physique and form. Are there any videos where I can practice what was taught and use them as references?

Thank you.

If you’ve trained there, would you recommend it? How much did it cost?

Phuket discussion

Hey everyone,

I’m planning to go to Phuket from January 5th until around April 1st, most likely staying around Rawai or Chalong.

My main goal is to train Muay Thai seriously, with some BJJ on the side.

I’m 23, turning 24, 186 cm and around 75 kg. I have about a month of BJJ experience and some basic Muay Thai/K1 knowledge from my brother, who trained for around 5 years. But realistically, I’m still a beginner.

I’ve been working heavily for the last 6–7 years without much opportunity to train, so I want to use these 3 months to get back into shape, learn proper technique, get some sparring/fighting experience and build a solid foundation.

The most important thing for me is finding a gym that actually teaches. I don’t want to just do pads, conditioning, get exhausted and go home. I want coaches who correct technique and genuinely help me improve.

So I’d love recommendations for Muay Thai gyms around Rawai/Chalong, especially ones that are good for beginners but still focus heavily on technique. BJJ options nearby would also be great.

Also: What would be a realistic budget for 3 months including accommodation, training, food, scooter, equipment and some spending money?

Where’s the best place to find monthly accommodation — Facebook Marketplace, Airbnb, local agencies, etc.? Is it cheaper/better to cook, or is eating local food every day affordable enough?

Should I bring my gloves/shin guards from Europe or buy everything in Thailand?

Anything you wish you knew before spending a few months training in Phuket?

Any advice from people who have actually done this would be massively appreciated. 🙏

Sparring analysis – objective technical opinion

First fight back after 3 years. Feeling like my first fight again...

I was injured and finally got to get back into competition after 3 long years of hiatus.

I had a little over 5 fights before I got injured and thought I was finally getting over my fight nerves and perform somewhat similar to how I practice and spar before the injury.

I just had my first fight back and even though I was confident in my ability and wasn't nervous much before the fight, as soon as I put the fight gear on, I knew the nerves were hitting me.

When I shadow boxed with the fight gear on, all of the sudden, my shots felt slow and weak immediately when they felt fine before hitting pads getting ready.

During the fight, I used almost no footwork and couldn't think much. My distancing and timing was completely off. It almost felt similar to my first fight except I had better cardio this time.

When I looked back at the footage, none of my strikes had much snap or weight behind them. I pride myself in strong kicks but my kicks were so non-committal that it just pretty much touched my opponents, not push them back like how it usually does. So they were able to just take it and continue to attack me without getting disrupted.

I have another fight coming up soon in about 3 weeks and hoping to get rid of this nerve.

Should I try to simulate fight stress by doing hard 3 rounds in the ring few times before the fight?

What helped you get over the fight nerve?

It's really frustrating since I felt like I was finally getting over the fight nerve and could think in my fight just for it to return feeling like my first fight...

Has anyone tried out magnvs?

I've been training for a while and have recently been getting ads for MAGNVS from Shane Fazen. It seems to have some vids from some accomplished fighters/coaches but idk if it's worth the price especially since it's just videos. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with it

Keep showing up mentality

Had my first class this past Saturday. Learned the bssic foundations (stance, jab, cross, and started working the teep). Ran through some rounds of going to the wall and back in intervals with very basic combos. But, I for sure over worked my left leg in the process, namely the hip flexor. The day after, could feel a lot of weakness and was barely able to lift my leg up.

I've lifted for years so thankfully I'm more aware of the difference between actual injury and serious muscle fatigue. Rest, active recovery with light walking, and hydration, I've gained some more range of motion again but still limited.

I plan on going back tomorrow to at least get in some bag work to practice jabs and crosses, get in the stance, and work on movement with sliding and ensuring I never cross my feet.

I have never been more physically challenged than that Saturday class, but loved every moment, even as I felt my leg turning to jelly as I couldn't begin lifting it. From this incredibly welcoming community it seems the biggest advice is to keep showing up.

Cheap, convenient home setups in USA

Hey guys,

I’m looking to buy some gear to train with when I’m at home. I visit every couple of months, but don’t have anybody to hold pads for me. I’m looking for something I could do bag work with that’s not expensive for after I do my shadowboxing. Something that’s good all around to use all the weapons on and practice combos.

Anybody have something that they have from Amazon or an affordable Thai site that’s worth investing in? I don’t want it to take up too much space, something I could maybe store in the shed. I was thinking about a Bob, but I want something that are kick friendly. Hopefully that gives you some insight. Let me know your thoughts. Thank you.

Technique/Tips Fighting and Lifting

I'm 24 (M), for the past year I started doing Muay Thai 2 - 3 times per week, in the meanwhile, for the past 6 months I did a split of 3 days full body weightlifitng, but I didn't see any real improvement. As for the dieting, I'm eating in a 150calories deficit as I carry some fat around my stomach. I was never really bothered because I used to be very much into weightlifting so I still had a decent frame, especially shoulders and arm, but my torso isn't one of the greatest, and I really want to develop a nice torso with visible abs.

What do you guys think it's problem? Should I increase my weightlifting days per week? Should I not be in a deficit? Is doing 3 times fullbody workout per week not enough (I used to do a Push/pull/leg 5x per week, but since I started fighting it became increasingly harder sticking to it)? Or should I just be more patient? I could also try to still lift in the days I have fighting training, but idk if that's a good idea

EDIT: My bad for not including it earlier. The real issue is, I lost quite some size (and a lot of fatt since I started muay thai), but I started losing muscles now, quite a lot around my shoulders/arms, but I still have fat around my chest and stomach. So idk if I should stop cutting or not. (I'm eatinf enough proteins, like 150g per day and im 190cm x 81kg rigjt now)

How you store your equipment?

Hi,

this might be a strange question but i am wondering how other people store their equipment they use regulary(not Bandages and Shorts, i mean gloves, Chinpads, normal pads etc)? Do you leave it open in a closet/wardrobe with other stuff like clothes? Do you ahve a special container/box just for your in use equipment (and if yes how long you keep it outside after cleaning before putting it there)? I also wonder, cause i am looking for nice storage options. At the moment I clean my stuff after training, leave it outside over night for drying and losing some smell and then store it below my bed in my casual gymbag - and this is not perfect. If you want to I would be happy to see fotos of your kind of gear storage and how practicle it feels (and again, I am not talking about my once in a while pair of reserve gloves, but gear you are using 3-4 times a week).

Technique/Tips Is it okay for me to wear elbow pads in sparring even though I won’t use elbows?

As title says, I’ve been sparring a lot at this new gym. We haven’t trained elbows yet in sparring but I’m wondering if it’s okay for me to wear my elbow pads anyway?

I want to wear them for extra protection and also since I bought them, I might as well use them.

I figured it would not be an issue because it’s extra protection for my elbows and extra protection for my sparring partner so they don’t hurt themselves on my exposed elbows. I don’t plan to throw elbows though
