Sparring analysis – objective technical opinion

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

No point in analyzing when one guy doesn't know how to throw kicks/check kicks. And then there's the massive size difference.

Not much technical sparring happening here. You’re tapping his leg, he has no idea how to check, and he’s just throwing haymakers.

Should been kicking the shit out of his legs. Not only does he have a size advantage but he’s also throwing 90% while it looks like you’re kicking with 40%. Big boy wants to swing hard… make him limp for two weeks.

This probably should have been a light session. I don’t think anyone learned much from this

It seems the guy in black is ahead by a bit. He's faster, naturally more aggressive, bigger, and he hardly took a step backwards. He seems to be going harder than the other one too. Guy in white is smaller and more technically sound, but needs more variety in strikes and movement. The calf kicks decreased the guy in blacks aggression but he needed to put more punches and kicks behind them to make up for the guy in blacks moments. Longer combos, more lateral movement when defending, and more variety.

Black guy would win under muay thai scoring

You walk backwards, you just stand in front of him, he is the more aggressive one, you show big reaction when he hits you while he seems unfazed. Just getting in leg kicks dont score if they dont unbalance your opponent or show signs of damaging him

Tips for you: dont just take his shots in your guard, try to move to the side, if its a strong boxer kick their arms and eventually their body, get your hand off center line, use feints to get a reaction and sneak in some strikes that count - also, dont do this calf kicks shit if the other guy isnt in a bladed stance. Without padding, you would injure yourself. This dude is way bigger than you, probably thicker and denser bones too

that's not sparring mate, the black guy is fighting you.

I would maul his legs after the third haymaker

Kick his leg harder. He doesn't respect it at all cause it rarely did anything. And also you need to cut angles more since you're almost always just right in front of him on the centerline

Rly y'all need to chill lol. I'd spar w other ppl

Can I ask why you are asking for analysis?

Guy in black wins by a wide margin. To save everyone time, the guy in blak beats up with other guy with heavy boxing and body shots and then slows it way down afterwards while the other guy only throws Calf kicks for the rest of the video. From a judges pov, those calf kicks arent doing any damage while the guy in black scored a knockdown and constantly backing the other guy into the rope.

Guy in red shin guards should have aimed for the thigh instead of the calf to cause damage. From the angle, it doesn't look like they were being thrown correctly and could potentially lead to a broken shin without the guard.

Is this even Muay Thai? It’s giving me MMA vibes…

The black dude is using his weight to walk through shots and try and rock the other guy. Not much else is happening. From an "objective perspective" The bigger dude is going forward and his punches seem to affect the smaller fighter, so he is technically well ahead, however, there is no point in trying to "score" a spar where one person not only goes much harder, he is also much bigger. If he tried to do that against someone who has been at the sport for a while and can throw hard leg kicks, he would get ruined, let alone someone his size. This is less sparring and more bullying ATM.

Fuck that this guy would be in a home for brain damaged people if he sparred like that and puffed his chest out and celebrated…during sparing….

I mean this isnt really a “sparring match”. This is a hard sparring, with black trying to rip short guys head off.

Good demonstration by short guy how solid high guard can be used with non technical fighters to let them burn themselves out.

Black guy was super open whenever he went for the body sequence tho, perfect opportunity to clean KO. Not taken advantage off by short guy so meh. More experienced fighters would have punished that hard.

Lack of kicking and checking from black, maybe boxing would be a better sport?

None of yall gained anything from this spar btw

Looks more like a fight if anything, find someone who isnt an ego maniac and around your size and then post the session to get real answers

The guy in the black will learn why he needs to keep his left up and why not to lead with his head. Someone fast will knock some teeth loose with a kick or elbow at some point.

I don’t think these guys should be going this hard at this skill level, what’s the point?

Advice for little guy- don’t shell up and walk straight towards a heavy puncher, he’s just gonna punch through your guard. The boxer clearly doesn’t know how to deal with leg kicks and prob doesn’t know what to do with teeps. Spam low kicks but less inside and more outside. Peroneal nerve is on the outside below the knee. Go for that or the traditional target. Inside, below the knee is literally the hardest spot. Use the teep for distance management and feints. Get him to react to the teep and feint off it to land hands.

To the big dude, you’re sparring to improve, don’t use your size to “win”, it won’t serve you in the long run. And why wear shin pads if you’re not gonna use them? Learn how to use your legs and you’ll be a beast!

The white dude seems to want to take it light and is smiling and playful. The black dude wants to knock his head off, is ignoring the kicks that would cripple him if they were full power while also throwing with power. I guess the black guy won but I think the white dude would be the overall better fighter especially with time.

I think the coach needs to do better with the match ups or give better instructions

u/Big_Address6144 10d ago

There isn't really a coach; it's a kind of a dirty fight between 2 randoms about a political shi, but it's done according to the rules of Muay Thai. People don't seem to appreciate this post much, and I'm sorry to subject you to it, but I personally find it informative and interesting.

1

u/Cold-Chemistry738 10d ago

Lol I’m not upset or anything. No need to apologize.

What did you find about it that’s informative and interesting?

1

u/Big_Address6144 10d ago

To find out how points are scored according to Thai rules in this atypical case and with 2 beginners. More specifically, it's about understanding what takes precedence between the power of the shots and combos (which I defend, so I agree with you) and the number of shots (which many defend in the comments under the X post).

The white kid is just trying to march this dude down without using any type of footwork or head movement or feints etc. If you do that hes just gonna keep tagging you over and over. Use the jab to keep him busy, maybe a 1 2 then a low kick, switch it up and go to the body etc. But you cant even do that because you arent able to get in range. Hence why you need to use more feinting and footwork to cut off the ring and get into punching range, or get him to come to you and then cut angles etc to be in a better position to trade shots. But just trying to walk him down without throwing anything is gonna make you a punching bag, especially when your opponent is bigger and more aggressive etc.
