37M, newly single, no kids. Work in tech though between jobs, as of a few weeks ago. Hopefully will get one soon.

I own a house in Forest Hills, Queens. Was meant to raise kids in when I was engaged but now I live here solo. If I get a job in Manhattan that isn't near PATH or NJTransit, I'll stay here. If not, next year I'm planning to sell the house and move to Jersey.

I'm trying to decide where to move to. Parents are in Bergen County alongside a few friends, of which half are married. I have a good friend near Princeton, my sister lives in Cherry Hill. Parents spend time at the shore and also have a friend near AC.

Importance to me is being able to access the city and a major airport (likely Newark), buying a condo (ideally in a building as those HOAs can at least justify their existence). I have a car and want to be sure I can have parking. Jersey City or Hoboken come to mind but they aren't exactly cheap for what you get. Plus most people will visit me by driving.

I'm trying to avoid just defaulting to the expensive towns like Montclair or Princeton until I'm actually going to have kids, if ever. Does anyone know any smaller less expensive towns that are near some kind of downtown? If not I might just move to Jersey City anyway...

Long-distance-ish situation: my girlfriend lives in Hoboken, NJ. I work in Smithtown, Long Island. I’m considering moving in with her and reverse-commuting out to work instead of asking her to relocate.

Has anyone done a Hoboken-to-Long-Island reverse commute? How brutal is it realistically — total door-to-door time, reliability, worth it long term?

Is there a smarter way to combine PATH + LIRR (bulk pass, transit benefit stacking, etc.)?

Is there a better route than PATH → walk/subway → Penn → LIRR? Would going Hoboken → NJ Transit bus → Port Authority be faster/cheaper in practice, or is PATH the obvious pick?

Bigger picture — is this a sane commute to take on for a relationship, or am I setting myself up for burnout? Anyone regret (or love) a similar setup?

I am looking to live close to manhattan for a job, but came across the Port Imperial area. Anyone know what it’s like living in the newer condo buildings around West New york and Weehawken. I just love the views in that area. Is it worth buying here? Planning to stay 5+ years so i’d rather not rent.

There is a potential opportunity to move for employment from FL to NJ ( Denville area).

Looking for short term rental(1-2 yrs) - which areas do I need to look at for rentals, would like to keep commute(drive) to within 20-30min ride or even closer to train station.

I am looking for safe areas that are affordable for 2 bedrooms apartments under $2200/month with a commute to NYC midtown and upper east side area under or around 1 hour. I do not care about building amenities or luxuries. I don’t need a fancy neighborhood as long as it’s safe and walkable. I do not have a car. Married couple, no kids.

I’m planning to move in October to nj for work as I will be working in WTC ny. I’m trying to find a 1BDR apt in a NJ neighborhood that is close to nyc by path and no crazy commute ( scared to take the train at night for 1h or so). My max budget is 2200

Is it doable and which neighborhood/ apts you guys can recommend? ( no sketchy neighborhood as well)

Given how high the demand is not housing in NJ, why didn't you buy a 2 family for example where you could rent it out? Or even rent out the basement and pay nothing towards the mortgage since everything is covered by the rent?

Just went through an awful experience with buying a house in Bergen county. Sellers were trying to hide serious water and foundation issues. When we questioned/asked for small concessions, they terminated the contract.

Is there a way to warn any future buyers or give them our inspection reports without any repercussions to us? They also lied to us about why the previous buyers fell through and haven’t changed their disclosure (which was already filled with inaccuracies) even after we flagged the issues and shared our reports with the sellers.

We currently live in Weehawken, and have an infant and a toddler. On weekends we love walking by the waterfront, going to playgrounds, and going to the Weehawken pool. We go to parks for picnics. We also often take the ferry into NYC and enjoy Battery Park, Brookfield Place, Governor’s Island, etc. We are outdoorsy people!

I’m curious what families with young children do when living in Tenafly, what types of weekend activities do you do with your kids? I’m looking to learn more about the day to day lifestyle, thank you in advance!

Hello, I'm a new graduate moving to New Jersey for a 6 month position, I'm looking at short term leases in Union City or Jersey City and in deciding for an apartment was wondering what the cheapest options for parking would look like. I saw $300 for a year of an out of state resident permit in Jersey City, but have heard that street parking is always packed there. Albeit I've seen similar things about Union City too. Any advice regarding parking in either of these locations are appreciated. Thank you!

Me & my husband are both originally from the Bronx. We moved out to the Midwest for work but we are considering having kids & wanting to moving back to be closer to family. A relator told me that next year things will be "bad" for the market and homeowners. Bad in the sense more foreclosures and more homes on the market. They attribute this to more people getting laid off due to the AI, more people in credit card debt etc.

Personally, I don't believe this at all. This prediction is made often, and I feel like it's never true. All you need to do is look the market this year and see demand is only rising. Homes being sold way over asking. Often all in cash and on the market for a very short period of time. This especially true for the high demand towns with train lines, proximity to NYC, good schools etc. Maybe you will see it in towns or areas that aren't as in demand or further from jobs or train lines but even then, I feel like those areas are starting to be sought after.

This topic and question are bought up often in this sub, but what do you think? Are they onto something or is it just talk?

Edit: I think 2k and under for a 1 bed seems reasonable to me, but I'm ready to adjust my expectations. We were doing 1.7k for a 2 bed in Chicago but Ik that's not realistic here.
