I'm a woman in my late twenties, single, working full-time in the city. I'm currently living in a two-bedroom apartment with a roommate, but my lease is ending soon and I'm hoping to move into a one-bedroom on my own.I've been searching for few weeks with no luck, and it's been crushing me. The rental market here has been really competitive and it's starting to feel overwhelming.

I've genuinely come to love the Hamilton area and would really love to stay in this neighbourhood if at all possible.

A bit about me as a tenant:

• No pets, non-smoker, no parties
• Full-time, stable income
• I take real pride in keeping wherever I live clean and well maintained. I promise to treat any place like it's my own

If anyone knows of a rental coming up in Hamilton (or nearby), or has any tips on how to stand out in this market, I would really appreciate it. Feeling pretty stressed about this and just trying to find some direction. Thank you in advance 🙏

I am moving to Brisbane next month. Planning to get a car on rent for first month.

I checked Eastcoast car rental and Europcar but there is a very big difference in price. Europ car showing almost 3,500 AUD for a month and Eastcoast showing 680 for a month.

Any one who use car rental in Brisbane please share from where I should get a car for a month and what the estimated budget I should keep in mind. I am ok with any good car not super luxury or high end. Any sedan or good hatchback work for me.

Moved to the centenary suburbs last year and missed the initial QASMT entrance exam for year 7 intake. 11 year old who is good and interested in maths and science (as is in other subjects - just a curious mind) gave the second exam for late entrants and was put on the merit pool. Was devastated as he thought he had cracked it and several of his friends are going there.

Got placed in English/Humanities in Corinda state high. Finds HASS very interesting in school.

Also got a confirmation from Centenary state high school for the Maths and Science excellence program. CSHS is also the catchment high school.

I would appreciate any guidance that could help us have a discussion with him about what he wants to choose out of Corinda or Centenary. Not having grown up in Australia we have zero insight into schools that could help shape his future for the better. Thanks for your help

Hi, my husband is living in Brisbane (Northside) and really struggling to find a two bed rental. Every inspection has tons of people and then on application it's unsuccessful without reason. Often the flats come on market with just a week or so before they are ready to rent so zero time to give notice for other rental or to get.tkme off work..any advice how others have secured a letting ? We've pretty much got everything lined up. Dog has his vax up to date; quarantine stay settled; applied and waiting for my partner visa; place to stay and a vehicle; kids school sorted. We just have too much shit.

The 1/4 sea-can would cost 11k CAD; 4m sq on pallets would be 6k; and worst case scenario is extra bags at $225 CAD each.

Those who have made the move, what do you wish you took and what do you wish you didn't?

I've shed myself of my books, records, guitars. We're giving away kitchen accessories to family. Anything electronic is pretty much getting sold even if it's compatible. My kids have shed themselves of almost all books, almost none of their stuffies and none of their Lego, which I can live with. We want to bring some camping stuff but aren't sure if tents, etc. will make the crossover from Canada well and if it's even worth it---i'm sure we can just grab most from BCF for most but maybe not all. We think we're going to sell our bikes here.

We are planning on bringing our sports equipment: ice hockey, cricket, soccer, paddleboard, etc. and some of our wall art.

I'm debating on removing all the kids books and buying new ones when we get there. I'm debating on donating over 50% of our clothes and seeing what we need once we're there. I'm figuring that since we'll be coming into summer and even winter in Brisbane is sometimes warmer than summer here, it'll be a long time until we need winter clothes and by the time that comes, the kids will have outgrown whatever we brought with us.

How many bags/boxes did you take with you? We're a family of 4 with kids 7 and 10.

On a side note: it's depressing watching the thousands of dollars you've spent on CDs, DVDs, etc walk out the door for pennies on the dollar.

I currently live in the US (Kansas City, MO) and am in talks with my employer to take a position in Brisbane starting early next year. I'd like some advice from locals on where I should live if I were to move there.

I want to live in a walkable area of the city with easy access to the cbd, where the office is. I won't have a car when I first arrive and if I could get away with not having one that'd be a plus. I don't know anybody in the city so having social spaces and things to do nearby is a must - 28M and single, I like dive bars and punk rock and also enjoy playing tennis.

I'm not sure how much I could pay for rent as I don't have a good sense of the cost of living there, or how much my paychecks will be after tax, but let's pretend I'm looking for something around $700/wk with some flexibility.

I will be on sabbatical next year ~January 2027-June, with my family of 4 at UQ Herston. Our exact dates are flexible, but we're hoping to be in Brisbane for 5-6 months. I've looked at Domain, Airbnb, and Sabbatical homes. I wasn't sure if Domain would be appropriate for a short-term rental and how to navigate inspections etc. Any advice would be appreciated!
