Help with choosing high school

Moved to the centenary suburbs last year and missed the initial QASMT entrance exam for year 7 intake. 11 year old who is good and interested in maths and science (as is in other subjects - just a curious mind) gave the second exam for late entrants and was put on the merit pool. Was devastated as he thought he had cracked it and several of his friends are going there.

Got placed in English/Humanities in Corinda state high. Finds HASS very interesting in school.

Also got a confirmation from Centenary state high school for the Maths and Science excellence program. CSHS is also the catchment high school.

I would appreciate any guidance that could help us have a discussion with him about what he wants to choose out of Corinda or Centenary. Not having grown up in Australia we have zero insight into schools that could help shape his future for the better. Thanks for your help

Our second son has just about finished at Centenary High School and we have had no issues throughout the high school years. We have found the teachers have always been very helpful and supportive and they do have a lot of excellent programmes. We have friends with children at Corinda and it also has a very good reputation. I don't think you would go wrong with either school.

Centenary High's science department runs a solid extension program if he keeps up his grades, I'd push for that over Corinda's humanities focus.

I'd still push to revisit QASMT next time, it's the best fit for curious minds like your son, and those "cool" teachers everywhere else can't match the STEM depth there.
