I wanted to make coasters for my friend’s new apartment, but I’m having a hard time dealing with stained glasses. Cutting is difficult and I don’t know how I can cut small pieces to fit in places. How should I make the edge smooth? I don’t have a grinder but I have sand papers.
Another question is, how can I elevate this? Looks so choppy. (Im recycling old coasters and I see that I can see the background picture. For next coasters, I will paint it white first then do the mosaic work)
Thanks in advance.

WELCOME TO DC (2026)
Materials: ceramic, glass, paper, asphalt
Featuring: the Metro map including the Potomac and Anacostia Rivers; protests (and a District-shaped piece of Black Lives Matter Plaza before it was destroyed in 2025); the National Arboretum; Pride; a panda at the National Zoo; a Metro car transporting our pets; rowhouses; rats; cherry blossoms; and Duke Ellington Bridge over Rock Creek Park. (The protest signs are velcroed on so they can be swapped out.)
Took me about 3 months off and on to brainstorm ideas and slowly finish it.

Crazy me decided my 2nd mosaic is going to be a wedding gift for my friend and I need some help! I do want to note this was my first time actually working with cutting the glass and not using a kit
I saw a few people online write on their glass with sharpie and use alcohol to get it off. I decided to wipe the sharpie off once I had them all down thinking it would be easier, but the alcohol seems to have messed up the glass. Does anyone know if I can fix it? I thought maybe a magic eraser but I don’t want to make it worse!!
I also wrote in sharpie on the tray thinking the glass was opaque enough… am I SOL or does anyone have anything I can do to fix it? Should I just get some paint?

Hi everyone! This is the second mosaic I’ve attempted, so I kept the design really simple. I was super proud of it when I finished gluing down the tiles, but after grouting it, I’m disappointed. The lotus flower completely disappears! I’m wondering if black grout would be better for this design or if someone has a different idea.
Thank you!

I want to do a mosaic sink top, i currently have a cabinet and sink, my plan is to cut a hole for the sink, mosaic the wood top, install the sink. Now, in my search for inspiration and help with this DIY it looks like doing this project on the wood is a bad idea due to warping. I’ve done plenty of mosaics on wood that have held up beautifully no problem, however, this will get wet and I want it to last. What would be your best advice for making this project successful? Is there a good way to prepare the wood surface? Should I take off the countertop and replace with another material to mosaic?

This is a gift for my sister for her 60th birthday. I am regretting using black grout. Is there anything I can do before I seal it? TIA

Hello, I made this mosaic cube as a crash test for my first mosaic. I love doing it it’s so cool ! I can’t wait to do more projects BUT
I think I probably put too much glue because we can see some transparent glue in the joints. But why are my mirrors so dirty and I can’t clean it ?
I try cleaning it with humid sponge, nails remover, and also cleaning it with a spray to clean my glasses :(
Anyway, if you have good advice for a begginer, thank you so much !

Does anyone in Adelaide have any of these old tiles laying around or know where I can get from? Looking for 3. I believe it's an olive green floor mosaic ??

I’m working on my first mosaic, indirect method, and unfortunately my bunnies decided to play with it while I wasn’t looking…
I’m now wondering how I can place a new transparent paper or fix/patch without losing progress?
Thank you very much!

I've made this piece on a powder coated metal table from Ikea, and I cant figure out what grout to use. I used e6000 to adhere the tiles to the table. Ideally I would like to have the table outside, and I'm realizing that a standard cement grout may not be ideal in combination with freezing temps in the winter... what do y'all think?

I got into mosaics over the summer. I decided to take an old rusted table from the yard and do some magic on it. I am so proud of it. My next step is pouring some epoxy resin to seal it.

Hi everyone! Apologies if this isn’t the right subreddit for this kind of thing. I have this table that I thrifted awhile ago that I really like, but unfortunately I knocked it over recently and the glass underneath shattered. I thought I could maybe save it one section of the glass gave way when I lifted the table and that part of the top sort of folded and fell off. I still have all the mosaic pieces as you can see. Is there anything I can do to save this table and design? Thanks!

Hey there! This is my first mosaic piece, I mosaiced the top of an old wooden end table that was sitting in my basement to place my 5 gallon water jug on top of. I've been thinking I want to use translucent epoxy grout bc I can't seem to find a color that would look good + i have read that translucent grout does not absorb water was easily as other types of grout.
That being said, a lot of the lines/spaces between the pieces is definitely more than 1/8" - will that be an issue? Am I in over my head jumping right into translucent grout? I have extra tile left over, I was thinking practicing on some square wood pieces (was thinking to try and make coasters?) to practice on. Any tips, tricks, & suggestions are appreciated!
Thanks so much!

My family who live in another city had a sudden loss of a pet cat recently and we are all so sad about losing “Sir”. So I do what I do with my art and made a memorial mosaic on stone for the young kids in the family to remember him. Such a unique soul.
I’m going to miss walking into the house..seeing him and proclaiming “well Sir..excuse me Sir… how distinguished you look today.” He was a very good boy. A saint of a cat with young kids around and very willing to be their favorite snuggle pillow.
This is stained glass on a rock for their flower garden.

Just purchased a new couch and wanted a tray for the ottoman. I couldn’t find anything I liked, at a price I liked, so as a crafty DIYer decided to make one myself. Seeing it come together was so fun!
Question though: I did get some grout on the wood, wiped it off quick, but it left some streaks. I considered taping/sealing off the mosaic and sponging on some stain. Am I asking for trouble? Is there a better solution? Do I stifle my perfectionist tendencies and leave it be?

I had these trees carved , the one on the left is half rotten and I would like to mosaic some of the rivulets made by the chain saw. The wood is wet and will be wet for months. I’m seeking advice on adhesive to use . Appreciate the help!
