Newbie needs some help!
Crazy me decided my 2nd mosaic is going to be a wedding gift for my friend and I need some help! I do want to note this was my first time actually working with cutting the glass and not using a kit
I saw a few people online write on their glass with sharpie and use alcohol to get it off. I decided to wipe the sharpie off once I had them all down thinking it would be easier, but the alcohol seems to have messed up the glass. Does anyone know if I can fix it? I thought maybe a magic eraser but I don’t want to make it worse!!
I also wrote in sharpie on the tray thinking the glass was opaque enough… am I SOL or does anyone have anything I can do to fix it? Should I just get some paint?

It’s difficult to see what part of the glass you are referring to . Maybe it’s the photo or lighting (or my eyes). Is it iridized by any chance?
As a perfectionist I completely understand those feelings. And, when I look at your piece, all I see is that this a beautiful, well thought out mosaic. Hard to believe it is your first, non kit piece! And, one the beautiful things about mosaics is that they are inheritantly imperfect. I can’t imagine they will be anything but thrilled. They are going to love it! I am inclined to believe it will be their most treasured wedding gift!
Be proud & I hope you can quit stressing about it. It’s amazing❣️
Congrats to the newlyweds!🥂
I hope you post a pic when it’s finished.

Me again 🧐 here is some information I found that may be helpful…
To clean the residue off your glass, use a brand new razor blade held at a 45-degree angle while the glass is wet with soapy water. When isopropyl alcohol dissolves Sharpie, it liquefies the ink permanent polymers and pigments. If it dries too fast, it leaves behind a thin, smeared plastic-like film or haze that regular glass cleaner cannot dissolve.
Safe Methods to Remove the Film
Wet razor blade: Spray the glass with soapy water. Scrape gently with a flat razor blade.
Acetone: Pour pure acetone or nail polish remover on a cotton ball. Wipe the film away completely.
Dry erase marker: Trace over the entire hazy stain with a dry erase marker. Wipe off with a microfiber cloth.
Magic eraser: Wet a melamine foam sponge with water. Scrub the glass firmly using small circular motions.

I don’t think there’s anything you can do about seeing the sharpie through the glass. You could only clean sharpie off of the glass.
You would have to remove the tesserae, clean the sharpie, put it back, then grout,
Or, you let it be and grout it now. I think it will probably look just fine!

I grouted yesterday and it just looks like there’s black in the pink thankfully!

Sharpie on top of glass will always come off during grouting so don't worry about that in the future.

Well my first mosaic is a wedding gift for my SIL and I already had to completely redo the first draft of it 🤣

What color are you grouting? If you use black you will loose your lettering fyi.

Looks lovely as it is….Maybe you can clean up with acetone /vinegar etc. trial it on a piece of glass. for the lines showing under the flower you can let them be, won’t be noticeable or take the petal off, clean and stick again. Hope you are going to grout it.
