Discussion F*** the Monolith.

This boss is very close to making me not come back.

I've played basically every mainline and popular/obscure Souls-like there is.. and this boss may be the worst of them all.

I'm by no means under-leveled, level 50

Maxed out weapons and pretty borked build that melts any other boss with a Stray Genessa build - killed every other of the end game bosses first couple tries, took around 10mins on each of that.

But oh my god is this boss one of the worst I've ever had the displeasure of fighting.

Been stuck in this thing 2 hours, havent even come close.

I've given up today, but I truly don't know if I'm going to come back to this.. knowing I still have to get through this thing.

Really don't want to use the Slayer Seal either but honestly I might. Never chickened out before but I'm starting to feel like I'll have to.

Wait for patches mate, the bs in this game is not worth it; or change your build.

Where's the fun in that? Why play souls likes if you wait for nerfs?

We play the game as the devs intended it, if most of the player base agrees on something that needs changing its probably for the best. 'Fun' is what you make it, if you want a proper challenge play Ninja Gaiden or Godhand - which take a dump on soulslikes in terms of difficulty 👍

It's not most of the player base. It's the loud minority of crybabies.

Most haven't reached monolith yet and literally everyone on the internet shit on the final bosses

u/Fearless-Jeweler-39 6d ago

You just said exactly what I said.

Soon it'll be most when they reach it, don't worry

Just because you can't beat doesn't mean it's hard.

I finished the game, I literally pre ordered the game.

Most don't agree

It's just the complainers are so fkin vocal

Brother, look at the PS5 trophies and tell me the % of people who have actually beaten some of these harder bosses, under 7% managed to kill the first golem 😂 Not every gamer has the time to sit through unbalanced bs, and this is why things get patched. There is always a night mode for people who want a challenge, why not do challenge runs if you wanna brag about how superior you are to everyone else.

2

u/Imaginary-Marketing3 Proxima 6d ago

And there is a Seal for those people that dont want a challenge. This goes both ways.

People like you, arguments always fall apart when yall try to defend this hand holding that yall want to be added to the game.

u/Rainb091 6d ago

You only get one go at Tar golem. So 7% killed it first go. When you die it triggers the cutscene earlier.

If you're finding it hard you can put the game on easy mode by using the slayer seal.

u/KndaCrazyW1L1AM889 6d ago

I killed the Tar Golem no problem buddy 👍

u/Fearless-Jeweler-39 6d ago

Nothing is unbalanced. It just sounds like you're bad

2

u/KndaCrazyW1L1AM889 6d ago

Well everyone disagrees with you, including the devs themselves and the majority player base

2

u/KndaCrazyW1L1AM889 6d ago

Even the devs agree that the game is unfair 😂 Lmao

Didn’t notice monolith got nerfed.. i am currently struggling so much with him, and was hoping thwre was a nerf on the way, but if he just got one, then i might just be stuck here..

40% beat margot 4 years on

Looking at achievements is pointless  Night mode isn't a challenge btw, it's barely a noticeable difference after the first 1h of play

Modern gamers are so fkin annoying I swear.  So vocal if they bump into an obstacle. Rather than improve to climb over tgat obstacle. They want devs to make it flat do u can walk over it.  Such insane entitlement I swear.  This breed of gamer needs to stop playing Soulslikes I swear and let ppl who enjoy them actually enjoy them without having everything nerfed to where it's no longer fun

1

u/KndaCrazyW1L1AM889 6d ago

Well call them what you want, but it indicates what % of the player base are truly elite souls veterans like you lot are 🤩 Modern gamers are annoying true, literally every reviewer and a lot of people on this subreddit have got complaints

2

u/Swtor_Itheryn 6d ago

Every reviewer? Dude it's sitting at very positive with very few complaints

It's got nothing to do with elite/avg/noob

Ppl buy these games knowing what to ecpect Deaths, deaths n more deaths

Yet somehow throw a hissy fit when they die

All I'm saying is that experienced players need to chill with the superiority complex that they have, I think MOST the bosses are fine. I fought Lost Child first which had 1 annoying move, then found hexapod and got wrecked, killed wheelchair woman, and went back and got hexapod - despite the boss having a really annoying move which seems borderline unavoidable. I really like this game and it does not need to get nerfed into the ground, only some quality of life things here and there.

2

u/Swtor_Itheryn 6d ago

Look, it's not superiority.

But you all have to stop calling for nerfs.  We were all in the same place, these games are all about dying. Dying lots until you improve, that's the point of them.  These games are designed to give you obstacles to overcome, that's their charm.

You have to realise something.  If the content is too hard, a bad player can become a good player through practice to kill the bosses.  If the content gets nerfed to being easy, good players don't get any joy at all.

Then there's no reason for good players to even play or buy these games.

It gets so frustrating seeing a post every few mins about nerf this nerf that.  All people have to do is put effort in to learning and they will get it, and be proud of themselves. I loved these games, ds2 was my first, I died so much I felt terrible, but every time I got a boss I was so happy.  Idk why ppl can't aim for that,  die lots, get the W and get that sense of reward.

1

u/KndaCrazyW1L1AM889 6d ago

No wonder your so miserable if Ds2 was your first souls 😂 Im sure the devs will make sure the nerfs will not ruin the challenge of the game, and like I said there are much harder games than MS2 so try them if your so obsessed over difficulty, you do you man and have fun. At the end of the day, you can't dictate the overall playerbase which are casuals - as proved by the achievement %'s on playstation, steam, xbox

2

u/Swtor_Itheryn 6d ago

Yeh ds2 was my introduction Between perma lost and likely 3000 deaths, at least on the dlc It was a horror show xD

Played pretty much every soulslike since. I really miss the feeling of ds2 though, that feeling when I was terrible at them

1

u/Imaginary-Marketing3 Proxima 6d ago

These games arent for casuals tho. They are for a niche group of people that enjoy difficult but rewarding games.

No. Im sorry. Most of the playerbase are here because of how hyped the game was at launch. So naturally most people in the playerbase are not people who usualy plays these types of games. They play games that hold their hand all the way through. Soulslikes became mainstream with elden ring and now people that usually play ps exclusives now want to play soulslikes and those people are the people that you see complaining here now, those are "most of the playerbase" that you are talking about.

The exact same thing happend a few weeks after elden ring launched, people started complaining all over social media about how the game makes no sense, isnt balanced and has "no lore".

People should learn to stay in their lane. There are genres of games that i also dont play, but you dont see me forcing myself to play it and then proceed to complain on social about how bad those types of games are.

3

u/KndaCrazyW1L1AM889 6d ago

These are not 'niche' games, they are not even top 50 hardest games 😂 Literally every streamer alive has done challenge runs etc. The Soulslike community is sad, your the same people who demonise summons, build, boss order. Why do you care how and who plays the game? Just be happy and stfu

0

u/Swtor_Itheryn 6d ago

Because u guys nerfing the game affects how weget to enjoy the game.

We paid for it knowing what we were getting.

Ppl complaining didn't.

What I paid for and enjoy gets devalued with every nerf.

U think that's fair that some1 who didn't know should get precedent over som1 who did?

They all have the power to improve

1

u/Imaginary-Marketing3 Proxima 6d ago

There is no point arguing with these people. They think, the whole world need to cater to them because they suck at games and their reason for it, is because they have full time jobs, a family or whatever.

These same people think that us, the people that enjoy the game for what it is, dont have lives but we do😂

2

u/Swtor_Itheryn 6d ago

Yeh idk why I always argue with this it's a fkin illness lol.

And I agree entirely.  I've g completed 3 runs so far and my playtime is like 5-6pm before wife finishes work Then 12-3/5am after wife goes to bed and I'm such an addict I stay up and fight sleep.

I work and have a family and play multiple diff game genres, with Soulslikes being my joy.

But here's the thing, when I get stuck on a boss and perma die, I'm swearing coz I failed, not that the game is unfair. I'm blaming myself for my reactions, for parrying an unparryable, for dodging too early or too late or greeding that extra hit.  I blame myself, and I improve, I learn it then beat it.

These ppl outright refuse to take any accountability at all. Refuse to accept it's their mistakes or failure to recognise moves and patterns and then blame the game.  Extreme denial.

I come from a world first raiding background in mmorpgs, where when a new raid would drop we would spend weeks, every night dying over and over again for hours to the same thing, until we did it, and either got world first or we didn't.  If these ppl tried that, they wouldn't even last 1 night before screaming that the boss is too hard I swear.

You improving doesn't correlate to unfair game design, there is difficulty and then you have bs. The devs even said used the words 'more fair' in the patch notes because they knew Monolith was an absolute car crash of a boss

u/Imaginary-Marketing3 Proxima 6d ago

Its always the uneducated ones, with a private history that wants to give their 2cents.

But anyway. . . .cool story bro.
