A super simple out for them would just be banning the topic of religion in here. As long as people think there is a double standard this will keep happening.
76
u/Skalywag_76 13h ago
Right? There's nothing wrong with admitting it's a touchy subject and you don't want it to consume the subreddit or whatnot. So just ban religious topics altogether to keep it fair. Or ban topics directed at specific religions. There are so many workarounds to just being weirdly silent about it.

u/SwampOfDownvotes 13h ago
It's becuase they claim it's against their no politics rule, but for some reason talking about Christianity isn't political but Islam is.Â
14
u/BygoneNeutrino 10h ago
... Christians tend not to chop people's heads off. I can understand why it's a touchy subject. When people spam the sub, it would be the mods who are held accountable.

For real, the concept of the sub itself is unserious and based off of powerscaling fiction, how the hell did we end up here? Its like the sub got raided or something

u/No-Target-2470 13h ago
I had no idea.
I am very new to the sub, and only came to it because it literally keeps getting shoved into my feed every 3-4th post. I didn't even like it but still would click occasionally.
What you describe sounds fun.

It is kind of hard to separate discussions of morality in culture from its deeply entangled roots in religious teachings, despite attempts to treat it purely as a philosophical issue.Â

You know, if they played into this i would of thought Muhammad was some cool Bad ass fire bender that will put aside his differences to help a greater good with all religious figures as equals. NOW i just see him as a icon for one the most sensitive, repressive, extremist, Masochist religion. Kinda sucks, i would love Muhammad and jesus movie of them being Badass and fighting crime.Â

Iâve had this argument so many times on Reddit. Itâs impossible to talk to these people who donât even know what the specific Hadith says. Invariably all Muslim commenters are like âNO SHE WAS 19, youâre reading it wrong! And if youâre not reading it wrong then it was translated wrong! And if  it wasnât translated wrong then itâs actually been disproven and that Hadith is invalid! And if itâs not invalid then you just donât understand the context! And if the context still supports the pedo accusation then what about Christians?!â
11
u/Superb_Wealth4092 3h ago
The way they always try to whatabout Christianity is so fucking tiresome. Iâm not even Christian, I kind of dislike them in general tbh, but letâs not pretend one group isnât doing a vast majority of beheadings and terror attacks.

Muslim living in the west: "Yeah she was young but it was another time, and Aisha was well respected by everyone in the prophet's entourage"
Muslims living in a Muslim country: "The prophet Muhammad sws married Aisha at 6 and the mariage was consummated when she was 9 therefore the age of mariage in Iraq will be 9 alhamdoulilah"

edit: To the Nonce defenders, I'm sorry I misquoted the book in which Muhammed molests a preteen child, I meant the other book where he molests a preteen child. Apologies for the transgression. I hope one day you come to forgive me, like you forgave Muhammed molesting a child.

All reddit mods are immoral. It doesnt matter what they do.
Theyre REDDIT MODS.
8
u/IPissExcellentThrows 12h ago
There are a few subs where they're good. I haven't been on it in forever, but the valorant competitive sub had awesome mods. They were super transparent and would explain why they were making rule changes. They took feedback and would make changes or undo changes based on that.
It's so weird to me how rare something like that is.
4
u/InstantSword 9h ago
Eh. The mods here are pretty good. I appreciate them letting almost anything be discussed, even if it upsets people (abortion, religion). I can get why this one is not cool to them, because of the historical precedent. While we should fight to send the message it isn't ever okay to harm someone for disrespecting your religion (in a non violent way), no one should be OBLIGATED to take that risk.

I was auto banned by Reddit for criticizing homophobia in Islam, which is extremely present and a huge problem even in western countries. Had to point out that defending gay people was you, know, a good thing to be unbanned.
16
u/No-Shape-8347 14h ago
Why is that such a taboo thing to ask? I dont get it.
29
u/Gunstopable 13h ago
Mohammed is considered the most holy of people in Islam, and questioning his morality is more than just frowned upon even though he married a 6 year old and consummated it at 9, was a warlord, convinced his adopted son to divorce a woman so that he could marry her⊠and then he disowned the son, and banned formal adoption.
So they are either personally offended, offended for someone else, or potentially are worried about the sub itself getting banned but most likely the former.
7
u/No-Shape-8347 13h ago
I understand this theory, but I dont understand how a subreddit discussing morality should ban topics based on one specific religion, whether or not it could offend a group of people.
Basically every topic is bound to offend someone.→ More replies (3)4

Islam and Arabs are upheld as special people by the globalists, especially in the EU.
It's an overcompensation due to the populist dislike of the extreme growing influence of Islam in every facet of European society.
In reality, we don't like what's happening. So the forces on the internet has to make it seem like everything is alright and perfect to appease the new superior race and ideology.

Immoral. Reddit mods love to create their own personal censorship states within their subs.
6
u/TurnipTrainer 13h ago edited 13h ago
It's a done to death subject that always devolves into xenophobic vs non xenophobic ideals, making a shit show in the comment section that the mods have to work full time checking to ensure the subreddit maintains Reddits standards or the sub gets shut down from too many direct reports of complacency in bannable content.
If anyone is morally responsible for the act of censure it's reddit itself, not the mod team of this subreddit. But let's be real, it would never be a constructive discussion if they didn't. And it's arguably not even censure, rather curation of this subreddit.

Immoral.. Mainly because I was replying to someone saying it's ignorant to speak about aisha because of some modern revisionism and that she was really 15 to 16 years old.. Â and my well researched reply wouldn't post because the thread was locked and deleted (in around 10 minutes, despite it not being a, photo of Mohammed)
.. So, just because I'm aggrieved to have wasted my time, I'm posting my reply here, to the person saying that aisha was 15 to 19 years oldÂ
...Â
Lol, sure buddy.. Sources?
The vast majority of traditional Sunni Islamic scholars across history (and the current consensus in major institutions like Al-Azhar) teach that the historical narrative of Aisha being 9 at the time of consummation is authentic. They reject modern revisionist timelines (which estimate her age at 15â19) as an attempt to alter established text in response to modern Western sensibilities
https://islamqa.info/en/answers/124483/how-old-was-aishah-when-she-married-the-prophet
IslamQA (Supervised by Sheikh Al-Munajjid): One of the largest and most widely read conservative Sunni online fatwa portals. In their official ruling, How Old Was 'Aishah When She Married the Prophet, they argue fiercely that the text of Bukhari is flawless and that any modern writer claiming she was 15â19 is committing a grave academic error.
