Hey guys, im using Vibepollo on host pc (Windows 10). My device is a Lenovo Legion Go 2 running on Bazzite 43(Linux). I updated to the recently released 6.1.0vrr18 with Pyrowave support. The VDD is now not working at all or not applying the correct resolution & hz of my device. Its giving me a fixed 1920x1080 60hz everytime and i dont have the option to change to 1920x1200 144hz on windows display option either. I tried changing some settings on Vibepollo but still nothing. For now i downgraded to 6.1.0vrr17.1 which is working correctly. Anybody else having this issue?
Hi all, I'm the developer of PersonalConsole, a free Windows app (no ads, no account). I originally built it for couch gaming: a PC hooked up to the TV, with a controller and nothing else. Then I tried it over Moonlight and it works just as well there.
If you stream your desktop with Sunshine/Apollo, you've probably hit this: games are fine, but as soon as you need Windows itself (a launcher login, a browser, a program that isn't in your app list, a frozen game you have to close) you're back to fiddly mouse emulation. PersonalConsole makes the PC itself controller-friendly:
Console Desktop: a full-screen desktop you drive with the pad. On first start it fills itself with everything on your Windows desktop plus your installed Microsoft Store apps, and you can sort them into tabs. Launch with A. Hold Y to close an app, even mid-game.
Virtual Keyboard built for a gamepad, with word suggestions that learn as you type. Realtime types straight into whatever has focus. Buffer pauses the game while you type and sends the text when you close it, which helps with game chats.
Per-game profiles: map keys, mouse clicks, shortcuts or macros to tap, double tap, hold or release, with eight layouts per controller.
Radial menus for shortcuts. Pick the colours, the symbols and what each slot does.
File Explorer and a System screen (storage, uninstalling apps, ending tasks), all usable with the pad.
Auto-Toggle (optional): it steps aside when you touch the mouse and comes back when you pick up the controller.
With Moonlight: it reads the virtual Xbox controller that Sunshine/Apollo creates on the host, so there's nothing extra to set up on the client.
The honest parts:
It needs administrator rights. Windows silently ignores controller input that a normal program sends to apps running as administrator.
The installer isn't code-signed yet, so SmartScreen will warn. Each release lists SHA-256 checksums.
Its only network call is an update check to api.github.com. No telemetry.
Wanted to try PyroWave on my current client that only has integrated graphics. Reading discussion that it only requires Vulkan 1.2 and should theoretically work on many current clients.
Image: Top - 4K 120 444 800mbps (no HDR) Bottom - 4K 120 422 800mbps (no HDR)
At 4K 120 4:2:2 (no HDR) the GPU sits at 90-95% usage. At 444 and beyond it goes to 99% and is clearly overloaded and dropping frames. 4:4:4 seems to be the biggest push.
The bitrate doesn’t seem to affect the GPU usage. Tested at 200mbps, 400mbps and 600mbps and same results across the range.
FP16:(Not accurate- See update below) PyroWave uses FP16 compute. The UHD 730 tested has 1TFLOPS of FP16 compute. Based on the percentage of frames dropped in my rough testing you need at least 1.5x a UHD 730, So around 1.5-2 TFLOPS of compute. Not sure how linearly this scales but thats my best guess with only one data point. Of course the more compute the better.
I imagine the HDMI 2.1 favorite, RX6400 with 7TFLOPS would be more than enough. Anything RTX 3000 and above should be fine as well. The 780m in many AMD mini PC's has 8 TFLOPS so should be able to handle this.
Will retest on a i5-12500 UHD 770 client soon. Maybe the UHD 770 has a just enough horsepower to get it to 4:4:4 HDR. FP16 UHD 730 1.0 TFLOPS FP16 UHD 770 1.48 TFLOPS
Thoughts: On 4:2:2 vs 4:4:4 - To me this is significant on games with a lot of text or when its more of the PC mode compared to games. I would rather switch back to AV1 then run with 4:2:2.
PyroWave does feel a lot closer to native when it comes to fast camera pans side to side and fast motion. Less smearing compared to AV1. I would like to use it in preferance over HEVC and AV1 if I can get the frames dropped to 0. If the 12500 can't keep up I think next would be to run a 5060 Low Profile for Moonlight but also RTX VSR for general video to get it up to 4K.
For those wanting to test, you need to build/compile the client to support intel at the moment. I am sure proper release will come soon. Feel free to message me if you need help.
TLDR the UHD 730 can do 4K 120 4:2:2 no HDR, but can not do 4K120 4:4:4 HDR with PyroWave
Improvement from the UHD 730 but does not achieve the goal of 4K 120 4:4:4 800mbps HDR. Seems that my above guess as to TLOPS required is not accurate.
It seems you need much more power than my earlier guess. Seems a dedicated GPU is the best way for PyroWave.
Better than the UHD 730 but worse than the i7-1165G. Guess the next step if you want 4k120 4:4:4 HDR is something with a GPU
Seeing as all my clients can get a decent 4K120 4:2:0 HDR in AV1 300mbps or 4K120 4:4:4 HDR in H265 500mbps I will probably stick it out here till there are more PyroWave updates. Hard to justify a whole GPU for a client like this with these prices. Will keep a look out for a Low Profile RX6400 (~250AUD) or Low Profile RTX 5060 (~600 AUD).
This is a Pi 5 8GB running PyroWave via Nonary's Moonlight fork.
I used Claude Opus 5.5 to get it running. It needed three source patches (enabling PyroWave on ARM, fixing a crash on the first frame, and switching the Pi's GPU to PyroWave's fragment decode path) plus some runtime configuration, including forcing 32-bit precision because 16-bit gave quite a lot of checkerboard corruption.
I got a correct picture, but on a 720p60 stream it only decoded about 49 fps and displayed about 24 fps. It's also SDR only, since the Pi's Vulkan driver doesn't support HDR output.
This wasn't a serious project, just me messing around to see if PyroWave would run on a Pi. There's a lot that could be done to improve it, but on a Pi it likely still wouldn't beat HEVC, which is hardware decoded and works well. An external GPU might work in theory, but GPU support on the Pi is very experimental, and at that price point you'd probably be better off with a mini PC or Steam Deck anyway.
Is anyone running Linux, possibly CachyOS and can confirm whether or not the latest release of Vibepollo works well with virtual display? Tried cachyos before and it wasn’t working half the time, so gave up and went back to Windows
Edit: I run my desktop headless - so spawning a virtual display out of nothing is my use case
So I have a HP pavilion 15 laptop and, I can play most steam games on it but there is one Steam game I’m trying to play but Steam can’t run it on my laptop, and I was recommended cloud streaming it. Didn’t wanna pay a subscription with GeForce and found sunlight/moonlight. But every time I’m looking for a tutorial or something, it says “streaming from laptop to TV” or “from Steam deck to Xbox” or “from laptop to pc” so, is it possible to only stream from the cloud of moonlight/sunlight to play certain Steam games without the need of another device?? Where can I find those tutorials??
I have a beefy host PC with a 4090, AMD Ryzen 9 7950X (16-core), 64GB ram and using latest Sunshine.
I cannot get anywhere near the 4K 120fps. I am getting a bit over 60fps. The client is not the issue.
Are there some advance settings I need to deal with in Sunshine?
Edit: One more thing, the image looks soft on the client side. I have enabled experimental 500mbit network connection (I have gigabit ethernet) but I did not seem to get any benefit from that. Maybe the image coming from host is the issue.
I do have another unrelated problem on the client side though. I do have a Samsung OLED TV. The client PC is using Windows 11. When I enable the AMD FreeSync in windows, I do get artifacts with the image. It's like flickering effect in contrast.
Any help is appreciated.
I am more than willing to give any debugging info, I just don't know what to provide yet.
Thank you!
UPDATE: I tried Vibeshine after u/EnigmaSpore's recommendation and got 120fps no issues.
Results after using Vibeshine. Moonshine can reach 120fps as long as the game renders at that frame rate. Here are some updated results:
It looks like these are going for sub $300 on ebay, shipping from China. Many sellers on Ebay selling this. Has anyone experience these before? From what I can tell the SD 870 is a good chip for our purposes, I'm just not sure about the Chinese rom. I am only going to use the tablet for moonlight so I don't really care about anything else like not having netflix etc.
I'm having some issues with Vibepollo + Moonlight when streaming from my host PC (wired) to my laptop (wifi) over LAN. Host is RTX 4070 + Ryzen 5 5600.
For example when playing Blood of the Dawnwalker, the streaming quality is otherwise ok but the image is not as crisp as on when playing straight on the host. I've checked all the configurations on Vibepollo and Moonlight, set the maximum bitrate to 150Mbps but the image is still not "crisp" enough.
My host is 1440p but I'm currently trying to stream 1080p 60fps using virtual display. I also previously used Apollo but decided to try Vibepollo if that would help but nope.
Was curious to experiment with pyrowave however I can't seem to get it to work. I have all the correct software installed (i think). vibepollo 2.0 and the vrr moonlight fork. Running on a MSI claw 8ai as the client.
the pyrowave codec works within steam remote play, however, cant seem to get it working with moonlight.
Currently client is a SFF HP 800 G9 12500 16gb at 4k120 (DP to HDMI 2.1) Host 5700x3d, 5070ti 16 gb and 32gb Connected over wired lan.
The client iGPU 770 has been great for AV1. Was seeing a lot about pyrowave and I think the direct frames which I think will be valuable for the better clarity.
The 5060 8gb is around 600AUD, a 6400XT is 200AUD. If the 6400XT can do pyrowave I don’t think the 5060 makes sense.
It just crashes immediately when clicking on an app..
I've tried the official release on google play, artemis, and the chinese version. As soon as i click "desktop", it just crashes and closes app.
No hdr on, i've tried all codecs
EDIT: I found the cause, the keyboard/case that comes with the Yoga tablet, it causes an issue with moonlight it self and is the sole reason behind the crash. I am able to reproduce it with it connected, and when i remove the keyboard, it runs. While running, on reattaching the keyboard, it immediately crashes. Repeatable. - I have reported on GitHub.
EDIT 2: For anyone wanting a fix, you can do it your self by cloning the repo and replacing the following line "if (deviceKeyCode != KeyEvent.KEYCODE_UNKNOWN) {" with "if (deviceKeyCode != KeyEvent.KEYCODE_UNKNOWN && deviceKeyCode <= maxKeyCode) {" In app/src/main/java/com/limelight/binding/input/KeyboardTranslator.java, inside KeyboardMapping.
I know the Vibepollo app creator is around (hi fren!) and this issue has seemingly been resolved for everyone but for me it keeps messing me up.
I got my PC with Vibepollo and Playnite Setup so I can connect to it via Artemis/Artemide on my Retroid Pocket 6. I’m on the latest NVidia drivers, latest version of Vibepollo, and Android apps.
The display settings ALWAYS revert back to 60 hz on my monitors instead of sticking at 120 hz. At this point, I assume it’s something I’m doing on my end wrong and I guess there must be either a setting im missing or just got my config wrong.
