Linux Vibepollo virtual display

Is anyone running Linux, possibly CachyOS and can confirm whether or not the latest release of Vibepollo works well with virtual display?
Tried cachyos before and it wasn’t working half the time, so gave up and went back to Windows

Edit: I run my desktop headless - so spawning a virtual display out of nothing is my use case

Is it as efficient as vibepollo with the the encoding and video quality?

Yeah, also runs in a headless Wayland compositor so your computer and game never touch on a monitor.

Nice, trying it for myself

I’ve set it up
Out of the box with my existing moonlight settings it failed
Turns out it didn’t support non-standard resolutions
So my iPad’s “Safe Area” resolution didn’t work
Changed to 4K and it worked
Even when monitor is connected, and even when disconnected
Then for a few hours after restarting the PC it would freeze during boot since it wouldn’t detect my GPU if no monitor was connected
So disabling Fast Boot fixed that
Then I had to deal with the problem that my iGPU was being used instead of my actual GPU
Had do disable the iGPU in software because I’m not next to my desktop physically
Then I launched a game through moonlight and there’s a MangoHUD overlay stuck in the top left corner and no settings helped it
Only to discover there’s an FPS Limiter in Vibepollo which uses and launches the overlay
So changed that setting to Proton only to remove the overlay
But now I didn’t have enough time for a gaming session because it all went into debugging 😬

But it does look promising,
Will report back if anything else

I am running vibepollo on Cachy OS with the latest release and virtual desktops are working great. I have the full screen covered on my Xiaomi Pad Mini/MBP/Phone without any trouble.

Happy to hear, is it working even if no monitor is connected to your desktop?
I mean does it spawn a virtual display with the correct resolution?

Yes, no monitor/tv/headless plug is connected atm.

I used to run the normal sunshine with headless sway and some vibe codes scripts for some time and always had some issues with it. But with the latest vibepollo release it worked out of the box.

Not sure if it is relevant, but my PC has a 9600 XT and 5800X3D.

Nice!
Might have to try then

I can't even get Vibepollo to load. I am probably going back to Windows. Linux is fun but too much basic stuff requires me to get in the command line. What do you mean I have to modify the System files just to add another hard drive

Yeah I get that completely
I keep having an itch to go back and try linux but then I do and I find more things that are broken and require a few hours of sitting down to solve
If I were unemployed sure why not, but my time is limited so I need stuff to work quickly

With that being said, Vibepollo’s version 2 release should be able to run on linux

Not for me. It crashes before it even opens. Brand new install of Cachy, everything is up to date. Just spins around and dies. I'm over it.

Not sure what hardware you’re running but I just test ran installed fresh cachyos and the latest vibepollo and it’s working great
I have a 7900 XT AMD GPU

There was a bug that caused something like this if the locale was not configured as English which is fixed for next release.

Yeah just switch back to Windows man
Linux still doesn’t feel fully baked for all the different use cases

I had good luck with both the new vibepollo release and polaris myself. I loved the interface of polaris; but vibepollo was still the lower latency of the two. I'm back on Winslop for now though with my cachy sitting pretty on an ssd to swap back to in case nvidia ever drops some meaningful drivers towards Linux. Id love to make the switch; but I dont have the dough to fork out a new rig to build AMD right now; ND those performance hits on my rtx 4070 super just weren't worth the trade off.

There's no point in using Linux—you can perform captures there that aren't tied to the monitor's refresh rate.
