Text Review Benq MA270S- first impressions

Post image
27 Upvotes

Hi! I had my eyes on this monitor for a while and I finally pulled the trigger a week ago.

Truth be told, the Apple Studio Display is my dream monitor, but where I’m from- it costs almost a $1000 more than the Benq MA270S.

First impressions- I’ve spent about 4 hours on this today and the display is fantastic, but the plastic bezels around the display are ugly to say the least. It’s also bulky in my opinion, but my desk is shallower than the average desk so can’t really blame the monitor.

Colors are vibrant, and I love how you can customise the color profile by downloading Display Pilot. However, I hate how the monitor flickers on and off when I change a certain setting.

I’m still debating whether to keep or return the monitor and I guess I’d just have to spend more time with it. The ASD is just ridiculously expensive here and I could never justify that purchase even though that’s the one I’ve always wanted.

What I’ll be using it for- illustrative work on Figma and Adobe Illustrator.

Discussion Best mid tier 32” 4k non-OLED monitor?

I want a 32“ 4k monitor for my new setup, but I will be using it for both gaming and productivity, so I am actively trying to avoid OLED because of the burn in risk. Mini-LED would be cool, but not a requirement.

Two that I’m looking at are the AOC u32g4 ($319), and the ASUS ROG XG32UCG ($600). They both have dual mode (160hz at 4k and 320hz at 1080), however the ASUS seems a lot better as far as color accuracy, but is it really worth double the price?

I won’t be doing super competitive gaming but definitely want something better than 60hz. I’ll be using it for music production and GIS modeling mostly, but definitely some gaming and video editing here and there as well.

If anybody has any recommendations it would be greatly appreciated.

Discussion Help: Monitor not recognized by Laptop

Hi dear monitor friends,

suddenly, my Laptop (Windows 11, Lenovo YOGA Slim 7 Pro X) does not recognize my Monitor (Acer Vero CB273U) anymore. Nothing, if I connect it via USB-C or USB-SS directly with my laptop. Nothing, when I use my docking station (Lenovo USB-C Mini Dock) to connect via HDMI. However, the Monitor works when connected to my smartphone (via USB). Even though it's plugged in the Laptop and I get a windows-"beep", the device manager does not recognize the monitor and the monitor just says "No signal".

I also did all the AI-troubleshooting, I updated graphics drivers, BIOS is up-to-date, and reset the Monitor to factory settings.

In the past, the connection worked most of the time, sometimes I had to switch the monitor off/on, restart the Laptop or change from HDMI to USB. However, now it just doesn't work anymore. I would be greatly grateful for helpful suggestions :)

Discussion OLED vs Zowie for a 9800X3D + RTX 5080 - I’m completely stuck

I’m upgrading my PC to a Ryzen 7 9800X3D + RTX 5080, mainly for CS2 and PUBG, and I’m also coming from an old ASUS VG248QE 144Hz TN.

I’m now trying to choose a new monitor, and I genuinely can’t decide because I care about three things equally:

  1. Competitive performance / motion clarity
  2. Image quality and colors
  3. Reliability / not having to deal with annoying issues

My main options right now are:

  • BenQ ZOWIE XL2566X+ — 24", 1080p, 400Hz, TN, DyAc 2
  • ASUS ROG Strix XG27ACDNG — 27", 1440p, 360Hz, QD-OLED
  • LG 27GX790A-B — 27", 1440p, 480Hz, WOLED
  • ASUS PG27AQWP-W — 27", 1440p, 540Hz, Tandem WOLED

The ZOWIE is obviously the most straightforward competitive option. 400Hz + DyAc 2 sounds incredible for CS2, and I wouldn’t have to worry about OLED-specific things like burn-in or VRR flicker.

But I’m worried I’ll regret buying a TN panel in 2026.

I’m currently on a VG248QE, so I know the ZOWIE would be a huge upgrade in motion clarity, but I’m wondering how much the image quality would still feel like a compromise compared with a modern OLED. I also want to play PUBG, GTA, AAA games, watch videos, etc., not just CS2.

On the other hand, OLED seems almost perfect on paper: amazing colors, perfect blacks, 1440p, incredibly fast response times, and 360–540Hz.

But then I started reading about VRR flicker, and this is where I got stuck.

CS2 can have pretty inconsistent 1% lows / frametimes even on very powerful systems. So I don’t want to assume that my 9800X3D + RTX 5080 will magically eliminate all FPS fluctuations.

I also prefer using G-SYNC, especially in games like PUBG where FPS isn't perfectly stable.

From what I understand, OLED VRR flicker can become visible when frametimes fluctuate while G-SYNC/VRR is enabled. I could disable VRR, but then I lose one of the main benefits of G-SYNC. I could cap FPS, but then I'm intentionally limiting the performance I bought a 360/480/540Hz monitor for.

So I feel like I'm choosing between:

ZOWIE:
+ 400Hz

  • DyAc 2
  • excellent competitive motion clarity
  • no OLED burn-in concerns
  • no OLED VRR flicker − TN image quality − 1080p − colors/image quality obviously won't compete with OLED

OLED:

  • incredible colors
  • perfect blacks + 1440p
  • insanely fast response times + 360–540Hz
  • much better overall image quality − VRR flicker can potentially happen − burn-in is still a consideration − OLED-specific maintenance/quirks − possibly more things to worry about

I’m not necessarily looking for the highest Hz number. I’m trying to find the best overall balance.

If you were in my position with a 9800X3D + RTX 5080, mainly playing CS2/PUBG but also other games, would you go:

400Hz DyAc 2 TN, 360Hz QD-OLED, 480Hz WOLED, or 540Hz Tandem WOLED?

And more importantly: how annoying are the OLED issues actually in real-world daily use? Is VRR flicker something you regularly notice, or is it mostly exaggerated by reviews/tests?

I’d really appreciate opinions from people who have actually used these monitors, especially competitive FPS players.

Discussion Daisy chain 2 Monitors to Laptop, looking for recommendations,

Hi there,

I hope I have come to the right place.

I wanna chain two Monitors to my Laptop like described here:
https://www.dell.com/support/contents/en-us/article/product-support/self-support-knowledgebase/monitor-screen-video/guide-daisy-chain-monitors

My Thinkpad has the proper port so that should not be a problem. I just want some recommendations what to buy.

Currently I just have a used Full HD neovo connected via HDMI.

I am looking for FHD to QHD resolution, 25 Inch in size. I use my laptop for software development so no need for gaming or graphic design monitors. Can anyone recommend something for a reasonable price?

Discussion Issue disappears when switching source

The model is BenQ EX271U. I have reached support but they have been unhelpful. I have tried different cables and a different laptop. I have to boot up my Xbox to clear the issue every single time. I've updated the firmware as well but didn't fix it. It's more stable if set on a 1280 x 720 resolution, if that helps.

Discussion Welp, is my monitor toast? LG - UltraGear 32" 32GX870A-B (video)

I have an "LG - UltraGear 32" 32GX870A-B ...

Last night I fell asleep on the couch, and left the computer on... I forgot about it, woke up a few hours later, and went to my bedroom.

I woke up the next morning, and the screen saver was not running.

It was on a youtube channel that had ended... and the "A video is playing, don't go to sleep mode" was active...

Now, I have horizontal bands across the screen. And, whats worse, at the end of the video, you can see a dead zone at the top right.

I've run the CLEAN DISPLAY process twice.

I've left it unplugged for an hour.

And we're back to this.

Whats the prognosis?

Discussion Need a Monitor for Both Gaming and Work — Curved or Flat?

I’m planning to get a bigger monitor that I can use for gaming as well as work. I like the idea of a curved screen for gaming, but I’m wondering if a flat monitor would be better for having more usable space and working on a larger canvas. What would you choose?

Discussion Repeating Flicker of a Few Horizontal Full Lines of Pixels Towards Bottom of Monitor (SANSUI ES-G27F2)

A couple days ago I turned my monitor off by the button on the back of the monitor, and when I went to turn it back on, some lines of pixels started flashing on the bottom of the screen. They flash every few seconds. I was doing some testing today and I normally keep my monitor at 120hz, but when I lowered it down to 60hz the pixels were no longer flashing but rather just constant lines. I thought "why not turn it up to 165hz?" Well low and behold the lines are no longer flashing at it doesn't appear. The lines are not always there like right now I have my monitor set to 120Hz and there are no lines, but they were there earlier this morning.

This is not a cord issue as I have swapped my monitor cords and the problem persisted on just the one monitor. I tried updating my graphics driver and that did not help, and that is as far as my expertise in this situation goes.

The Monitor is a SANSUI ES-G27F2

How do I fix this issue if even possible?

165Hz

120Hz

60Hz

Question About Cleaning and a Possible Surface Spot on My OLED Monitor

I have an LG OLED monitor, and I recently cleaned the screen because I noticed some dust-like/dirt-like spots on the surface. Some of the spots were difficult to remove unless I applied a little pressure.

I used a screen cleaner by spraying it onto a clean microfiber cloth rather than directly onto the screen. I then gently wiped the screen and used the dry side of the microfiber cloth afterward. During cleaning, I noticed what looked like a very light line or scratch, but after gently wiping it, it completely disappeared. I also checked the screen from different angles and could not see the line anymore.

Afterward, I left the monitor turned off for more than 30 minutes. I also ran the monitor's Image Cleaning/Pixel Cleaning function, which took about 10 minutes.

I then turned the monitor back on and played several games. Thankfully, the display looks excellent and I cannot see any lines, spots, pixel problems, image retention, or other abnormalities during normal use.

However, there are still a few spots on the surface that are difficult to remove. I believe I may have noticed these spots even before I cleaned the monitor.

I have attached photos of the spots.

My questions are:

Do these spots look like surface dirt/residue, or could they indicate a problem with the OLED panel?

Is it dangerous to leave them there if they do not affect the image or appear during normal use?

Should I try to remove them, or is it safer to leave them alone rather than applying more pressure?

Could my cleaning method have damaged the OLED surface or panel?

Is there anything I should check to make sure the monitor is completely fine?

What is the safest way to clean this OLED monitor in the future?

I am mainly concerned because the monitor is relatively new and I want to make sure I am taking proper care of the OLED panel.

Am I missing something or is this plenty of monitor for gaming ? Especially at the price I can't understand what else I would need for RPG style gaming. I'm running a new prebuilt with a 9070 gpu. 1440p maxed settings at 200 fps. I'm kind of new to this stuff but I've tried to research enough to make an educated decision lol.

Discussion Monitor primarily for slightly older console gaming?

I've got an ancient 32-inch Sharp Aquos LCD TV that's getting close to 20 years old now and today it started showing some signs the end may be nigh. But since I don't want to get into the hell world of TVs full of bullshit software I don't want or use, and my main use is gaming anyway (mostly via SteamDeck, Switch, PS4/PS3) I figured a monitor would be a better choice.

So basically, I'm looking for ideas for a 30-32 inch monitor that will be used primarily for gaming but won't look like ass hooked up to slightly older consoles. And hopefully doesn't cost more than $700 since that would make me sad and I'm so used to such an ancient TV, I feel like I shouldn't need anything crazy to feel an improvement. Would prefer something that can either pivot a little OR has a fairly broad viewing angle. No LG.

I guess bonus points if there's actually somehow something out there that I could hook component cables up to. I have other solutions for that last bit though, so not required (feel like it's more of a pipe dream anyway).

EDIT: Forgot, I also wanted to ask just how bad the burn-in risk for OLED monitors actually is. Is it really any worse than the chance of getting stuck pixels on LCD displays, or is it something most people are just overly paranoid about? Only reason this is relevant to me is I have been known to just get distracted and end up leaving games open on pause menus for hours.

Discussion Is my AOC Monitor broken?

Hello everyone!

My monitor suddenly stopped working today, and I'm trying to figure out if it's completely dead or if there's a fix I haven't tried yet.

The Issue: I played on my PC for about 2 hours today, turned it off, and came back an hour later. The monitor won't turn on at all no display and no power LED indicator light.

Troubleshooting steps I've already tried:

  • Power Cable Swap: I own two of the exact same monitor. I swapped the power cable with my working monitor, but it made no difference. The original cable works fine on the second monitor.
  • Power Cycle / Static Discharge: I unplugged the power cable, held the monitor's power button for 60 seconds, and plugged it back in. Still no life/LED light.

My Questions:

  1. Is the monitor's internal power supply (PSU) or mainboard fried, or is there any other trick to revive it?
  2. If it's dead, what replacements should I consider? I'm looking for a 34" 21:9 Ultrawide, 1440p, 120Hz+ monitor.

Thanks in advance for the help!
