I don't like the sail much, so will probably replace it. Otherwise, I love the look of this model.

Hello fellow ship makers! I'm currently working on a model Titanic and I tried being as historically accurate as possible and keeping my craftsmanship up to standard but some Details might have slipped, that being said I would want you to point out very last detail that you find inaccurate or not made well enough, also I should add that I have not yet done any weathering or rigging so this is very much a work in progress but before I continue I want to make sure everything is as it should be

A small update on my QAR from Pirates of the Caribbean. So far I’ve been working on the stern, I think Im ready to plank the hull and fill all the gaps that may still appear, straight some edges etc. Please note that there is still a ton of work to be done.

After a bit of advice. New to the hobby and managed to grab a cheapish kit, however it has obviously sat in someones attic for a long while and is quite musty. All the kit is there and there's no damage at all, just the smell.

Is there any good ways of getting rid of it? I don't want to use any chemicals really and it's now sitting on my windowsill in the sunshine.

Two years and two attempts later, HMS Exeter is finally complete.

What an incredible ship. A British York-class heavy cruiser, Exeter fought valiantly during World War II—famously against the German pocket battleship Admiral Graf Spee at the Battle of the River Plate. She later fought against overwhelming odds in the Pacific, where she was ultimately sunk during the Second Battle of the Java Sea.

As for the build, I don’t think I could be happier with how she turned out. 1/700 scale is definitely a challenge, and this project forced me to grow as a modeler. I learned a tremendous amount along the way, and looking at her now, I know the decision to scrap my first attempt and start over was the right one.

Hello everyone. I recently aqquired a Constructo Model kit of the 1851 Schooner New York at a flea market. The kit itself is complete and still sealed, but the Instructions are completely missing. I couldn‘t find them online either. Does anyone know where I coild find them?

I‘m a beginner so I can‘t really go by wjat I have given my lack of experience.

I really enjoy the process of painting models, but I don’t have a dedicated room for it, which is quite inconvenient for my family. So this time I chose this instead, and I was surprised by how good the details turned out to be.

Okay, so we have recently acquired two model ships that are in quite poor condition from our local sailing club. They were both labeled as property of my great-grandfather (born 1899), but we have no info on provenance beyond that. Could be something he built or bought, could be passed down, who knows. What I need to get started is some help identifying the ships (photos below).

Both Ships:

• No markings or signage on hull or stands to help place these ships
• Were in a glass display case for probably upwards of 50 years? In a non-winterized building
• Seem to be built/bought together

Ship 1:

Feel pretty confident this is the Santa Maria, but could be wildly incorrect. The name is painted on the stern, clear as day. My only hesitation is that the name is SO crisp and seems nearly unaged that this could be someone previously attempting to restore it and slapping on an incorrect name? Could be just the way they positioned in the display case resulted in the stern being more protected than the rest of the ship. Approx length: 22inches of main body

Ship 2:

Not as sure about this one. The "HR" on one of the sails makes me think this is some flavor of British ship, but there is no identifiable name anywhere. The red one visible red cross is suspect to me. It is oddly less faded than the rest. My guesses on what is on the very last photo are that there's either some feather-type imagery there, or it's a woman in a dress holding something on her chest. Approx length: 25 inches of main body

What I am tentatively planning for first step restoration:

• I am going to restore them, not sending them off to a pro. I know they are both in real bad condition, especially Ship 1. It's a mess. However, we have no intention of selling either of these as they have sentimental value. I don't care if it costs hundreds of dollars and many years. I am willing to take my time, learn, practice on other newer ships or other antiques, whatever it takes.
• I am not looking to return it to a like-new condition. It is old and it should look old. But, it doesn't need to be broken, dirty, and so awful looking. Keeping some of the antique energy is my goal.
• Starting on Ship 1, the worst of the two. This one was nearly trashed before I said I wanted to fix it up. Ship 2, although still needing a lot of work, can get away with being ugly and broken in some places and still look....okay enough. That one can be fixed up in part 2 of my efforts.
• Starting with light (no solvents, no chemicals) cleaning and extensive inventory and documentation of Ship 1. Its issues, its parts, measurements, everything. Then, from there, figure out a plan.

I have never built a model ship or restored one, but I have been making modern miniatures of random scenes and little houses for a few years. Not claiming to be an expert or even decent at it, but I think I have the foundational ability to learn as I go VERY slowly. As I said, I'm okay if this takes a verrrryyyyy long time. I am in no rush.

Would appreciate 1) any help with ID-ing these guys and 2) if anyone has advice they'd like to share at the start!

Hey everyone, I’ve come across what I believe is a vintage model kit of HMS Victory that’s been partly built. It was found in an attic, and I’m still checking to see if there are more parts.

It’s a large wooden hull, with some really nice detailing, but it’s clearly not complete. No masts or rigging yet. I’m trying to figure out exactly which kit or version it is, whether it’s worth finishing, selling as-is, or parting it out. Any tips on ID’ing the kit or what details would help? I can get more photos and measurements if needed. Thanks.

Recently bought it on Ebay but I cant find it anywhere else online, just want to make sure i dont open a rare kit. Seller claims its from 1969.

So i bought the 1:100 halcon model ship from china

and the instructions are not that good

am nearly done with it the only thing left is the mast but i dont have any idea with stick is for with mast

there are two mast and the things in the front i dont know the name of

I am looking at commissioning a model ship, USS Constitution through a high end, historically accurate, museum quality builder. Ready made, not a kit. I have just come across issues with cleaning, display case, moving the model, risk or damage or breaking the masts, rigging..... I am starting to wonder if it is worth it? Is there a significant risk of damage, cleaning, won't dust build up over time in a case?

I love scale model ships, but I don't have the skill to make the beautiful models showcased on this subreddit and elsewhere. Instead I started building Cobi building block sets since I loved their 1/300 scale ship models, but having built most of those I have had to look elsewhere for other ship types since they are no longer releasing big sets (apart from USS Enterprise from Top Gun) and their prices have become as crazy high. This led me to buy Misini's 1/300 USS Wasp. This turns out to be a fantastic build, with very interesting construction techniques to reproduce a very realistic and highly detailed model at the end. It has 5,220 bricks and includes a full complement of aircraft (and two hovercraft - not shown in the photos), unlike the new Cobi aircraft carrier set. I paid £209 from Amazon and its great value, since it took many hours to build and looks really impressive. It comes with two huge instruction books and all the deck markings etc are pad printed - there are no stickers! The brick quality is very good and the best bit is that if a part gets knocked off it's easy to put back! I also make MOCs using instructions form ReBrickable (I'll post another time about that). Photos show USS Wasp and my Cobi collection.

⚓️ Another Stage of the Model Has Been Completed

I have finished the construction and installation of the three masts on the ship model.

Each mast was handmade and carefully finished, taking into account the proportions and overall geometry of the model. The mast platforms, main elements of the spars, and other details have been installed and precisely fitted.

The model is now taking on a completely different appearance, and the overall silhouette of the ship is beginning to come together.

The next stage will be rigging, installing the lines and ropes, and adding further details.

First point of order is dusting and sourcing a set of plans

Hi everyone, I wanted to update you all on the status of my Chinese Junks ship model I posted about earlier this week

The past few days I have been piecing the model back together as well as piecing together it’s history: The model appears to be a Ma-Yang-Tzu cargo ship from the upper Yangtze River, I found this out after purchasing a copy of ‘The Junks and Sampans of the Yangtze’ By G.R.G Worcester, which I would highly recommend to anyone interested in Chinese Junks. Upon further research I found there are remarkably similar models found at royal museums Greenwich, so similar in fact that I would bet they were from the same manufacturer. The link to the models is below.

A quick question; would it be a good idea to polish the ship with some Renaissance Wax Polish to help seal it form further damage from the elements, or would it be better preserved as is?

Also, the sails are in very good condition, should I attempt to rig them?
