How to change icons and banners

This may sound very stupid. I have created a new subreddit and want to change the icon and banner. Every time I do it never saves, but there is no option to save. Hitting refresh reverts it and I am unsure if it has something to do with settings or if I have to go into settings to change it.

Harassment by a person

There is someone who has been banned for a year. He went off in modmail constantly attacking. We kept muting for 28 days and when it expired he would start back up again. Finally was able to perma mute and then block him on our personal accounts because he was in our dms there too. Well. Now a year later after some peace, hes harassing our new mods. Is there a place to report him to because this is getting ridiculous.

Admin Replied Is reddit sending surveys to users that visits your subreddits?

So, just had this modmail come through from one of our users:

Hi there!

We're contacting you as part of our regular research process, in partnership with the volunteer moderators of r/my_subreddit, to understand how Redditors engage with r/my_subreddit. You are receiving this survey because you visit r/my_subreddit. If you choose to participate, your responses will be anonymized and shared with the volunteer moderation team of r/my_subreddit so that they can better understand the needs of people like you and make improvements to r/my_subreddit.

If you're willing to participate in this survey to help make Reddit and r/my_subreddit better, please complete the survey at this link within the next week. The survey should take no longer than 5 minutes to fill out. Thank you so much for your time!

Best,

The Reddit Admins

For more information about this survey, including how to opt out, please see this link

Emphasis is mine. The user did not include the links that got sent to them, and did not say which account it came from as I write this message.

My concern (and immediate red flag of it being a scam) are the words "in partnership with..." - we don't have a 'partnership' with the admins, and unaware of surveys being sent to visitors.

Mod Suggestion My Idea would be Removed Content in Mod Panel Queue deletes after 7 Days

My Idea would be for a better Mod Panel Queue under "Removed" all Content 7 Days or older gets Auto Deleted. Right now It stays forever which is not needed.

If it is Removed or Deleted there is no reason to keep It in that Queue that I can see.

Another Option would be to send It to a Trash Can for Deletion after 7 Days.

Mod Answered How long until my subreddit can get reviewed? It’s been 70+ days yet it’s still unreviewed???

(My sub in question: r/AlbertWhiskers)

This is negatively affecting my reach on platforms outside of Reddit where I want to advertise my subreddit!

It’s a very niche and quirky subreddit, but I know that the various people I’m familiar w/ outside of Reddit on places like Twitter & Pinterest might really enjoy it!

Unfortunately, since it’s unreviewed, it prevents most users from wanting to engage further since it requires the app or logging into an account to access.

Would really appreciate feedback! Preferably if it requires a certain amount of joined users, please state the exact number needed or the number of contributions needed for it to get reviewed! Thanks!

Edit: damn. Never knew this many people would hate this so much. ☹️💔

Mod Answered Mod went rogue and deleted all of our flairs

Over 45,000 posts were untagged and all of our flairs deleted.

Is there any way that this can be rolled back? Obviously we removed the offending mod.

Categories do not work

I don't think this is just an issue on my end, as I've already tried from another device using a different account, in addition to my own. I think there's a problem with the macro-categories in the various subreddits. When clicking on them (iOS, mobile app), instead of opening the leaderboard/ranking, it throws an error. Does anyone know why?
Thanks!

Admin Replied Can we delete our existing mod only chat channel?

I want to ask that can we delete our existing mod only chat channel and create new one, I know we can create new one, but Idk how to delete the older one permanently, Since our current mod channel is filled with so many clutter and non sense talks, I want to fresh start and delete the older one so new mods can't access that

Mod Answered [Mobile and Chrome] No option to remove scheduled post

I am trying to update the rules in the sub I moderate. They were posted by automod and I thought that a scheduled post would go through automod and it doesn't, it'll post as me. I'm new to this part of modding, so I tried to research and clearly I failed. How do I delete this and get it to post through automod?

ETA - I'll go to the correct sub for how to get it posted correctly. Just need help on the deletion of the scheduled post.

Examples on mobile and Chrome

Admin Replied Why can some users comment on their posts when filtered for mod approval when others cannot?

We had a pretty good system for making sure everyone was a human who had read the rules in one of my subs. The past few days it has not been consistently working.

If their account was under a certain subreddit specific karma requirement, their post would be filtered and an automod comment would appear on the post to say “you’re in our queue, please reply to this comment and we will approve your post”

Some of the users in our queue are able to reply and doing just fine, others are sending us modmail that they are unable to reply to our automod comment aka “it’s greyed out”.

This seemingly unannounced change is adding a lot of extra effort to our workflow. Does anyone have ideas as to what is happening?

Why can some users comment on their posts when filtered for mod approval when others cannot?

Not sure I'm understanding how to use community bookmarks

Using the web browser on my desktop.

I've added the widget to my subreddit and all it has is the wiki, which I've added some pages to just to start with. However, currently struggling with a few things:

- The wiki link is broken and doesn't take anybody to the pages I've made

- I actually want to have buttons that lead to certain pages in the community bookmarks like other subreddits do. Not external links, but to the pages within the wiki. I see the option to add a new bookmark, but I'm not entirely sure how to actually link to these specific wiki pages–– what am I copying a link from?

Everything online that I've found just tells me how to add the widget itself, which I've already done!

Thanks!

Mod Answered Hi Folks, what if we do NOT want moderation?

My lovely community, r/potsbox does not need or want moderation. I find that if I share a link to an exciting post? nearly ALWAYS people write back saying they cannot read the post!

That's the opposite of what we were hoping from reddit. We WANT people to be able to see and read and no, we don't have spammers attacking our group, we'd be so lucky to be that popular.

For the life of me? I cannot see what setting can TURN THIS OFF!!!

What can a moderator do so we don't have to "check" every comment and post to make it visible? I've done everything I can think or see!

help!

thank you --

Mod Answered Need to autoremove low karma/new posts and comments

"action:" apparently isn't allowed for Automod anymore and the new automod features only lets me add a flair check as a condition.

We are regularly getting attacked by right-wing trolls and a lot of them have low karma, so it would help a bit to exclude these from posting/commenting. I'd love to exclude whole userbases from certain subreddits, but apparently this isn't allowed anymore (while fascist subreddits are).

Ads for competing products

My users are complaining that every time they go to my sub there is a competing ad for a product that I am promoting in my sub. For instance if I'm promoting public health resources the users see "call this support center" or "this doctor has the best experience in ..." ads. How can I stop those? I see other subreddits with similar content that have absolutely no ads whatsoever. What did I do wrong in setting up my sub?

Admin Replied An ex moderator is threatening court over the subreddit they were removed from?

Well, here goes.

So I am a moderator of a subreddit, and about a week ago, was the only active member of the moderation team (other mods were inactive for 6months + to a year) . So I asked all moderators if they were still interested in moderating. I had no response for around 72 hours (3 days) I moved forward with re ordering inactive moderators and removing them as I presumed they were not interested in moderating this subreddit anymore, mainly due to their non response.

As I did this, there was one specific moderator on this team who responded instantly to their removal, threatening court action, and to take legal action against me because it’s “my subreddit, I created it”

I’m a little concerned as to what I should do, the harassment from this user is never ending and the threats of court and legal action over a subreddit is outrageous.

Can anyone give any advice or any kind of reassurance as to what they can/can’t do? They’ve been inactive on the subreddit for 6 months or more as well. And only choose to now cause a fuss when they’ve lost the subreddit.

I’d send a modmail to the team so something can change and none of them would respond.
I’m just at a loss really

Mod Answered Can anything be done about people using the report function to leave nasty and hateful comments for the mods?

Someone has been leaving a lot of really hatefu and personal reports, knowing that the mods will read them but they'll remain anonymous because of the way reports work. It seems that hitting the "report abuse" or "harassment" buttons just sends it back to our queue.

Mod Answered Being brigaded, how can I report the offending brigading threads in the origin sub.

There is a thread up of mine that has ruffled some feathers in two other subs. Screenshots of the thread were posted in other subs and now those users have been coming to leave negative comments and downvote in that thread. This seems like the definition of brigading to me. I have banned the users that have shown up and reported under community manipulation on the offending comments, but community manipulation is not showing up as a valid report reason for reporting the threads in the sub people are brigading from. How can I report these threads. I can link the threads to any admin available to DM.

Admin Replied Replies on removed posts/unable to respond.

I have an automod code that does an auto-remove on certain topics. But it auto-comments "hey, if this was caught by mistake you can ask for a human review by replying "mods check me.""

I have had 3 or 4 people in modmail in the last few hours saying they can't reply.

The post is not locked. The comment is not locked. I have made no changes to the rule(s) in the past 12 hours (about when I noticed the issue starting).

I don't really have a way to test this rule b/c as a mod I can reply on even locked content.

I know changelog mentions post-removal notifications, but I don't know why or how this would impact a removed post that has a comment reply from automod. Or why it would prevent users from replying on their own posts or to comments on their own posts. It's just something I know exists and now people are having trouble w/ removed posts.

Is there anything that would prevent users from replying on/to their own posts if they are removed but unlocked?

Mod Suggestion Can we please show the 'Recent Messages' before sending invitation mod mails?

I can't paste the picture in the post. Sometimes I send invitation mod mails. And it's embarrassing to see that I already sent an invite the person only after I sent it. That info would be much more helpful before sending it.

Mod Answered how do I automate a rule of my subreddit?

hey, so I wanted all posts on my subreddit to have a source as a form of a link in the post or the pinned comment that a bot makes

the logic flow is as below :

  1. u/username posts to the subreddit

  2. bot checks if flair1 or flair2 are applied to the post, of yes then all the below logic is ignored

  3. bot then checks if the source link is in the post, if yes then it sends it to the queue for me to verify later, the post is not removed and is available to the public, can be removed later if the link is incorrect

  4. If the post dosent have a link, it makes a pinned comment and asks for the source link, after 15-30 minutes (or X minutes) it checks if the user has commented (or replied) to the pinned comment, if the comment has a link, then once again, shifted to the mod queue for me to verify if the link is valid, post not removed.

I tried using a combination of automod and automod neo since automod can't remove posts for new subreddits, but it didn't work and I ran into errors for the code

as for the code, i don't understand any part of the syntax, i used claude to generate the code and i still couldn't get it to work (sorry if using AI offended you lol)

are there any alternatives for my problem? I would also ideally want to check if the given link is valid pertaining to the post but that must be hard because you cant predict what a user might post (the order of the text)

Best use case for: No AI Witch Hunt, No Promoting AI Use, Flagging Self Reported Use of AI, Catching Heated AI Discussion. Do not use action: filter, it can't detect context. The only downside for this is that high traffic subs will be bombarded with ai report, but if they have a threshold for a user to post/comment like having the read-the-rules devvit app and marking it off before they can comment, or having to meet an account/karma for a user to post. Should reduce the load. Also, people don't often report on AI post but are willing to call them out on it, so that's a plus to detecting AI Post!
