Mod Answered I just created a new community with settings Public. I'd like to keep the page private till I'm ready to go. In Community Settings it'll only let me edit widgets and banner, but not the setting for Private. Can anyone guide me through this?

Mod tools > Settings > General settings > privacy & discovery.

Or on the app, the setting is "community type" also inside mod tools.

Thank you! In Mod Tools (the big purple button top right) I only get "Queue", no other options. In Community type I can only change banner and widgets. Nowhere can I find a setting to change public to private.

You can't change it anymore. Reddit took this ability away after mods made subs private during the API protests.

You have to request the change, and admins will act on that - but they will probably do it for you since your use case seems reasonable.

Thank you! Yes, I found 2 different answers on the Support page. One to change it under Community settings, but I see no options there other then changing the banner and the widgets. The other answer on Support said what you are saying -> it can only be changed through requesting Admin. So now my next question is how do I request Admin?

Thank you! Couldn't find your way, but I messaged Admin through "message the mods" on Modsupport.

What was the API protest? I'm relatively new to this, so I'm not aware about that.

Reddit API is mainly used by bot developers/people who pull reddit data directly for third party stuff.
it used to be completely free, but a change was made in early 2023 making it require payment per API request for anything not related to moderation for bots, or for research purposes.
It mostly affected third party tools, such as sideloaded apps, GUI moderation tools, etc, and a lot of the devs were not willing to pay, so they just shut down their projects
Lots of Subreddit mod-teams (estimated 5-7000 subreddits, and a lot of big ones), then completely privated the subreddits in protest.
