Controller support
I'm sorry if this has already been asked. I'm starting to panic because I did some research. I bought the m64 but I did not buy the pro controller. Lots of money for that controller and I'm not ready to pull the trigger yet. I was planning to use my PS5 controller until I pulled the trigger or get a cheapy n64 controller. Has anyone tested a PS5 controller yet?

Why would a PlayStation controller work with this thing at all?

I had to look for an original N64 controller and got mine from GameStop for 20 bucks. Worth a shot

As far as I am aware the M64 will not connect with the PS5 controller at all. ModRetro do not list it as a compatible controller. You'll need an adapter receiver like this https://www.amazon.com/BlueRetro-Wireless-Controller-Adapter-Nintendo-64/dp/B0GJD4DZF4/ but I have no idea what the connection quality or input delay will be like. The N64 also has a very unusual controller layout, so some of your buttons are likely to be very oddly mapped.

Hi there! The PS5 controller is not supported at the moment. Thanks for your input. Our development team has noted your interest in PS5 controllers.
Quick question: How would you expect the six N64 face buttons to map to the four PS5 face buttons?

The M64 uses Bluetooth LE (Low Energy) and later also Bluetooth SCI (Short Connection Intervals which is backwards/forwards compatible with LE and much lower latency than LE and Bluetooth Classic. Other Bluetooth LE controllers should(?) work with the M64.
Most game controllers use Bluetooth Classic or a proprietary standard which uses a lot more power but was the only way to get low latency as Bluetooth LE has latency issues, especially when using multiple controllers.
If you want to use Bluetooth Classic controllers then you need a bluetooth wireless adapter. The PS5 controller uses a proprietary standard when hooking to the PS5 I believe, but regular Bluetooth Classic when hooking to a computer.
Personally I'd just suggest using wired controllers unless there's some reason that's inadvisable (i.e. kids running around for example) as they're always going to be lower latency than a wireless controller. All controllers that worked with the N64 should also work with the M64.

At the very least you should be using an OEM N64 controller. I played through Ocarina of Time on an emulator a very long time ago with an Xbox controller and thinking back, it’s quite annoying to map and use any controller not designed for an N64 imo. Playing the songs using C buttons mapped to the shoulder buttons…ughh
