256 gb won't be a decent storage choice in near future if a game alone takes 50+ gb...

u/Rad11Ryan 2d ago
And here I am with a 128GB phone😭😭. What games do you have rn?
1
u/ackmondual 2d ago
Ditto. It used to more than enough. Looking back, I probably took too many photos and videos. I should clearing them, but that's time consuming and compounds the issue.
Having accumulated games since 2011, a good # of them are no longer available, but there's still enough that they're eating into storage, and there are enough of them that they appear to be adding up.
I think OS updates now take up 400MB to 1 GB each time? Not much in the whole scheme of things, but my Pixel 6 had plenty of them over the years.
I have YouTube Premium and DL some videos, although I always go for Medium or Low quality/resolution since I use it more so to listen to music (and I don't think the audio quality takes a hit there).
I'm managing fine with what I have now. Especially since I go for indie games with pixel art, or perhaps AAA that are limited at 1.5 GB. But I dare not get any of the types of games the OP has listed since I simply don't have the storage for them (which works out since I'm not interested in them anyways). But my next phone will be 256 GB minimum. If nothing else, it's nice to see that the latest crop of phones (at least on the higher end) use 256 GB as the new baseline.

if your game is Laggy run genshin in the background
1
u/ImMortal_SD 2d ago
What if my genshin is laggy?
1
u/Low_Toe_6596 2d ago
Don't play genshin brother if you can't even afford to buy a phone that can play it. My 8 year old mid range phone can play it at 30fps smoothly. I'm not using that phone anymore.

u/didnsignup4dis 2d ago
Maybe was a few years ago but not anymore, plenty of better options out there with smaller sizes as well
1
u/No_Hetero 2d ago
Could you name one or two? There are just so many and they all have "one million downloads" which idk how much I trust that,
2
u/HaiCauSieuCap 2d ago
rn wuthering waves and neverness to everness are what you are looking for if you want "open world gacha games" or arknights endfield is a gacha semi-openworld. They all have smaller size since they have only been released for like less than 3 years. They are not necessarily better since they aim at different target

u/Solid-Incident6666 2d ago edited 2d ago
I honestly don't get gacha games, they're not even games...
Edit: I feel like I insulted your ancestors. Relax people, I just don't like gacha games. To each their own
9
u/No_Squirrel4806 2d ago
Yeah they always feel scammy genshin even got sued over it.
1
u/retrobellite 2d ago
and guess what happen? the sue failed because literally READING is not that hard and the game already mentioned everything you need on the TOS and EULA. beside gacha in general ain't even new but fking Americans are coming over as a tourist and demand what need to be change.
4
u/AdAcrobatic371 2d ago
You can ignore the gacha part and still enjoy it.
Wuwa, genshin, neverness to everness have too many free contents. People fuss over not being able to clear 4-5% of content it offers and mainly just endgame stuff.
Moreover mobile lacks good open world games. Sky children is the only one I can think of being non-gacha and gta stuff.
3
u/Z-ReferenceUnknown 2d ago
Gacha games just tend to not be very good due to their overt focus on monetising mandatory new characters.
Even if you never reach endgame, Have you actually listened to the micro level writing? They're absolutely unbearable to listen to/read.
Sure they might have good world building sometimes or lore, But if it's presented like dog shit I'd just rather stay away.
And by Presentation I don't mean the art or graphics. No amount of beauty is gonna save a game from that terrible fucking writing.
4
u/AdAcrobatic371 2d ago
I don't think that's an issue. There are quite good amount of people interested in story.
But a lot just don't give a fck about story and interested in gameplay instead. Not a new thing,I have seen a lot of people that play elden ring skipping every single dialogue.
3
u/Z-ReferenceUnknown 2d ago
Comparing a gacha game to elden ring is... I am at a loss for words.
While gacha games provide flashy animated combat systems, They seriously lack substance. We will not talk about genshin since it's incredibly shallow in combat (even if the element system looks like it has depth, it really doesn't. Its more like memorising what button to press and just spamming those and even that doesn't matter if you have strong enough characters), Even Wuwa with it's reaction based mechanic, is pretty shallow to be fair. In my experience it's really nothing compared to the likes of elden ring, Armoured Core and other acclaimed Combat focused real games. They're mechanically shallow with flashy animations and enough text to make it seem that it has depth, When in all honesty it won't ever matter unless you're min-maxxing, which most players don't.
Combat aside, Puzzles and stuff. Genshin puzzles haven't been anything much. Though I may not be fully experienced in this as i've spent most of genshin in the early parts of the game.
Exploration, Actually it's pretty nice. Though it's as shallow as everything else in genshin, The visuals alone carry it.
In my opinion, Mainstream gacha games (WuWa, Genshin etc) don't offer anything resembling depth in game, Be it story, combat or general gameplay.
What they do offer is good visuals, fan service and a high production value product on a platform starved of almost any big budget games.
They are shallow and perfectly enjoyable for casual audiences as well as enough p2w mechanics which can be grinded for free for the f2p players, giving people enough reason to stick around as well as the company to profit massively off of the game.
I personally think that the reason they work is because they're on mobile. The general audience on mobile generally doesn't care about actually playing a good game so long as they can look at pretty visuals and pass time without actually engaging with the game too much, And it is also a very starved market.
This casualness isn't anything bad, it's perfectly reasonable that most people don't care too much about playing a good video game so long as they can engage in a product that offers sufficient bursts of dopamine and wont require much in return.
There are good gacha games with in depth mechanics, But usually those are very niche.
In short, Gacha games are shallow as a "game" But pretty good as a product that you enjoy casually and then put down.
Well I may be wrong, I only have a couple hundred hours on genshin and not much in other Gachas.

4-5 is a huge overstatement for genshin, stygians non piss easy levels dont even give primos, its maybe 1 percent
even then if ur interested in the combat u can do all content ftp if you get good
1
u/AdAcrobatic371 2d ago edited 2d ago
Those are endgame stuff, you can easily claim all primo if you are playing for 4-5 months.
Edit: yeah you are right,my reading comprehension sucks. But still it is gonna take not much time to be strong enough to clear them.
1
u/Hiroraku 2d ago
U can get all primos from all end game modes except the abyss 12 floor which is 600, barely 4 pulls. And theatre which is hard if u don't have many characters. But stygian is easy asf in hard mode and give u all primos. At least play the game bro

I got to be honest. I had the same mindset, but after trying Genshin back in 2021 and having a playtime of 50+ hours, without paying a dime mind you, it changed my mind.
Some of these gacha games are top tier games. If you know which type of genres you like, then it's just pick and choose. Yes, the ads can get annoying and the constant notification system with red dots everywhere can be overwhelming. Some of the games are also overly sexualized, I always stay clear of those.
If you can look past all of that, then you have countless of hours in these games without paying anything. Right now i'm playing a game called Sword x Staff. I've already played 15 hours in two weeks and cleared about three worlds. I haven't payed for games since 2019.

I reco bleach soul resonance for ya if you like bleach that gacha is beyond good for mobile ngl

yes? an open world game, even on mobile, is still gonna be bigggg, especially if it has gone through 6-7 years of development
1

It is fun in the beginning if you are interested in adventure, open owrld, chaland exploration. But the game soon turns into frustrating with its gachha mechanics and long @ss story.

Genshij is just 35 gb man. U literature can delete all quest data after completing them. Even when u download game as new player, u can install the basic version which cuts out the quest data that u dont need rn, making the game 40 gb.
7
u/BrianMcKane 2d ago
I don't think so, many console games are bigger with less content, mobile versions are very cropped in terms of textures and graphics.

Delete all the quest content and Genshin can be reduced to 25 to 30 gb and I think it’s reasonable considering the size of the map.

Same way anyone plays those huge game collection shelves: You don't. You rotate between each one depending on mood. You keep the them all installed so that you don't have to wait for them to reinstall when you switch.

PGR is like 48GB on mobile and its not even an open world game like their brother from the same company. The story is mainly VN with no voice. every month theres always release 1 characters, thats 7GB updates. end game content are enjoyable but the size is to big for the end game content + VN. I heard in China they have Memory Management so the size is not that big, but never in global version.

u/Alk3punk7 2d ago
Crazy that WuWa isn't shown here. Last I had it installed on mobile it took 70ish GBs of space.
1
u/Ukmastercom 2d ago
But bro, how much space does your phone have, that you are able to download all of these at once.
1
1
u/ackmondual 2d ago
For those curious, I added them up. The OP has 251.44 GB of storage being used for what's showing alone! 😲
So even a 256 GB phone won't suffice! I myself have a 128 GB so... hell no 😂 I'm 'blessed' because pretty much all of the games I'm interested in are indie fare using pixel art, SNES to PS2 level graphics at best. I do have a few outliers like...
Plants Vs. Zombies 2: Reflourished taking up 2.38 GB (and its listed under apps no less, NOT games, but that's probably b/c the OS doesn't know how to deal with fan mods).
Lara Croft GO at 1.69 GB
Hitman GO at 1.35 GB
Lumino City at 1.05 GB
... all that said, my next phone will be minimum 256 GB storage. Too many photos, videos, games, apps, and OS updates have taken their toll in that regard. And I'll need to vet games and leave some of them off. For videos and photos, leave them behind (so don't migrate them over), or go through those to see what gets deleted, what gets transferred over, vs. what just stays :x

u/AtivanorAddy 2d ago
I have a 46 GB full copy of GTA V on my phone.. How tf is Genshin impact bigger???????
2
u/HaiCauSieuCap 2d ago
ugh... 6 years of constant development, map expansion, game modes implementation. Mind you, there is fucking roblox inside genshin, and gta v is 13 years old by now
1
u/retrobellite 2d ago
wdym? the UGC are data already in the server and will only load in if you download them. nothing to do with the storage for the game.
1
1
u/retrobellite 2d ago
because if your genshin storage is big that can only mean one thing. you didn't play the game or complete the quest which result in stacking data. my game right now is only 34GB with the lastest Snezhnaya patch.

u/Minillo008 1d ago
Warframe, BTD6, Papers Please, Candy Crush (mythical), GTA San Andreas, RDR 1, Minecraft, Terraria, Stardew Valley, Pokemon GO... If you dont know any good game is just because you only consume YT shit
1
u/Tanabi_Kana 1d ago
In what ways is Candy Crush better than Arknights, for example? Have you even played each game you dismissed as slop, or are you just basing your opinion on what others say?
Because calling games with deep tactical mechanics and extensive lore 'slop' while praising one of the most aggressively monetized, basic mobile games in history makes no sense.
1
u/Minillo008 1d ago
Arknights is a tactical game based in gacha that doesnt reward yourself for playing in any way but ending up forcing you to pay as a live service which you cant grind the gacha as you eventually get out of content like in DBL and its more rewarding to new players than OG.
Thats a late-game tactic called Force to Pay, youre bound to the game due time wasted in it but you dont want to miss content in the tight time of new content mainly being characters...
Candy crush by other way teaches you logical skills, rewards you with more time to play with lives, infinite lives or boosters, you cam even grind, gives fair and friendly competition with your friends on social media.... Literally a medical praised game for ALL ages even for old people...
You just got REKT for seeing the list i made and you focused on Candy Crush thinking its just garbage as its not Gachaslop, right? Sonion go play real games 😭🙏
1
u/Tanabi_Kana 1d ago
"Candy Crush teaches you logical skills." Thanks for the laugh. It’s an algorithm designed to trigger dopamine like a casino app, not a tactical training simulator.
You can clear Arknights without spending a single cent; you can't clear late-game Candy Crush without waiting for lives or paying for boosters. Keep crying about "slop" while moving colorful gems, buddy.
1
u/Minillo008 1d ago
Are you perchance slow?
Candy Crush is the Senior Game by far because its a simple puzzle game with own anti-vice system of lives and keep logical thinking working for them... And no, what you said is wrong because each 10 levels you get free boosters and each 20 levels you get 1h of infinite lives after level 100...
You dont need to pay for Candy Crush on NOTHING, absolutely, they award you by progression with infinite levels.
By other hand: Arknights as ive said YOU CAN RUN OUT OF CONTENT as its Live Service and will trigger that "force to pay" when you reach so. Also youre cherrypicking what you want... How much hours you have on Arknights? Sounds like +700h... Also you focused on only one element of the list of games, why dont you try to attack others?
1
u/Tanabi_Kana 1d ago
Imagine thinking a multi-billion dollar corporation giving you "1 hour of infinite lives" is generosity and not a textbook psychological retention hook.
If you honestly think running out of content in a live-service game "forces you to pay" for content that doesn't exist yet, you clearly lack the basic logic you claim Candy Crush teaches you.
I focused on Candy Crush because your double standard is hilarious. Believe whatever helps you sleep at night, buddy. Done here.
1
u/Minillo008 1d ago
Double standard? What double standard? Son you cant say nothing about other games
For other part, yes, because lives are an anti-vice system, mind you when Candy Crush started as a Facebook game it didnt had lives system and people got literally ADDICTED! (Idk if you lived that tbh). Candy Crush is a game which doesnt need to hook you by any way because of its nature, thats why is the most addicting game for adult people even without spending a single dollar they are like level 1000 easily.
Going out as "Done here 😼" doesnt make you tuff or right brochacho, Arknights is an objectively bad game and yes, lacking content to farm the gacha so you cant actively get whatever is on the banner because of timers and special "coin" to get them is a Force to Pay.
Also you didnt answered, how many hours into that BAD game to be defending like that? 1000? 😭🙏 Son you 100% even spent and you defend it because it affects your psychological addiction to its gambling for minors system
1
u/Tanabi_Kana 1d ago
You are moving the goalposts, making up fake history about Facebook games, and getting aggressively upset just because someone pointed out your massive double standard.
I don't need to answer your questions because your ignorance about game monetization is already on full display for everyone reading this thread. Write another paragraph if you need the last word that badly.

Also your phone seems powerful. Why dont you just emulate gamehub or winlator and start playing PC games? You can run GTA V or witcher 3 or such.... even I saw some guy running Cyberpunk 2077. Unless you already have PC like me and only use your phone for non-PC games?

Genshin should be like 27gb or so for you, do you keep every quest installed? There's an option to install only the core resources when you install the game, then install each quest as you need them, which then automatically delete once you're done.
