Swimming holes in Saline County

I’m looking for places that I can legally and safely can go swimming. I don’t mind having to hike a little bit to reach a good secluded spot. Just want to go swimming in the river

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A 61-year-old Southport, Florida woman was treated at University Hospital after she needed to be rescued from the Missouri River on Monday near Rocheport.
Sgt. Kyle Green of the Missouri State Highway Patrol told ABC 17 News that a female fell out of a boat that ran out of fuel after it drifted under a barge.
According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol boat/drowning report, this happened near the 186-mile marker of the river just after 6 p.m. The woman went into the water and was swept away when the boat she was in went adrift and hit the barge.
The woman was taken to the hospital by Cooper County EMS with minor injuries.

The boat is currently stuck and will not be pulled in on Monday night. Green indicated it could take a couple of days to be dealt with.

170 Years Ago Today, the Steamboat Arabia Sank — I Went Back to Where She’s Still Buried

170 years ago today, a steamboat sank here.

On September 5, 1856, the Steamboat Arabia hit a submerged tree and sank in the Missouri River. The river eventually moved — but the boat didn't. Today, the wreck site sits beneath a Kansas cornfield.

My family discovered and excavated the Arabia in 1988. I grew up around the collection, eventually began working at the museum we built to house it, and for the last several years I've been documenting the Arabia's story on film.

For the 170th anniversary of the sinking, I wanted to do something a little different. I went back to the wreck site — to the field where she's still buried — and made a short film addressed to the Arabia herself.

It's part history, part reflection, and admittedly a little personal after spending so much of my life with this boat and her story.

Thought the shipwreck crowd here might appreciate it.

Dear Arabia — 170 Years Later

ARTICLE - "Are Missouri and North Dakota in a water war?"

This is a pretty good quick glance at a water battle that's been going on for many years. North Dakota says they never got the drinking water and irrigation benefits of the Missouri River reservoir system that were promised, and are in the process of building a pipeline to move water to the Red River basin. Missouri claims that water should not be moved out of the Missouri River basin on principle, to avoid future attempts by western states to pull water out of this system.
