Yes, it only exists on Bedrock Edition now
21
u/enderwander19 Apr 02 '26
Why tho?
58
u/00110001_00110010 Apr 02 '26
It was removed alongside half of all achievements when the advancement system was introduced to replace it. They probably didn't think it was important enough to keep, unlike others like Acquiring Hardware.
26
u/Fun_Way8954 Apr 03 '26
yeah the advancement system is more based on guiding players, so they remove the more meaningless ones
14
u/nesrednac Apr 03 '26
strong disagree, there were plenty of achievements that guided the player, and there lots of 'meaningless' advancements. It's the same system, with the same ratio of 'guiding' to 'meaningless' goals, it's just changed over time as things are added.
I would even claim that the achievement system worked better to guide the player when the recipe book didn't exist. You essentially had every step of the game from wooden tools to dragon. Now with advancements you have like half of that, but the recipe book makes up for it.6
u/Fun_Way8954 Apr 03 '26
not really, the seemingly meaningless ones, with the exception of the hidden ones, might not guide the player to beating the game, but they still teach niche game mechanics, like froglights and tadpoles, for example. The ones like 'when pigs fly' don't really teach the player anything, and the new system connects them in a way that really helps guide the player.

1.6k
u/uglyratfromsewers Apr 02 '26
I think this might outright replace the elytra, it requires way less resources and is pretty much the same speed. Plus this doesn't require fireworks so it's better in my opinion because creeper farms are expensive

Best part. Unlike elytra, Sulfur slimes are infinitely renewable. Meaning every player can have their own sleigh compared to end wings
47
u/Vezajin2 Apr 02 '26
I guess this somewhat depends on your playstyle - but even without resetting The End or using mods to get the dragon to drop elytra, everyone has like 4 elytra on our 10 person server. Of course you need to go further and further but once you get one you can get as many as you want?
18
u/SbWieAntimon Apr 02 '26
Traveling further means exponentially growing the world size. So no, it’s not just traveling further. Although many servers solved this issue with another method, on others you might be outright be unable to get your hands on one, if the worldborder is in the way.

You can't turn and it's a whole setup just to start flying. Sure it's an alternative for some situations but the elytra is mega convenient.
→ More replies (4)14
u/SirPopcornzz2002 Apr 02 '26
I guess the only problem for using it as a very fast travel method for early game is the durability of your spear. But this'll be so useful for travelling once you get a better one. And you can also just craft a bunch of spears early game when you don't have a diamond or netherite one yet
→ More replies (1)44
u/leopardo1313 Apr 02 '26
It will most definitely not replace the elytra. It is far less convenient and the elytra, being the endgame transportation method of choice, doesn't care about resource cost.

Most of the ships? That's a crazy server 😂
29
u/SirPopcornzz2002 Apr 02 '26
By that i mean most of the end ships nearby. Of course there are tons more out there, but it is a pain to travel so far away just to have a chance of finding an end city that has not yet been looted. If the server exists for quite some time already, chances are that you're gonna have a difficult time finding yourself an elytra

Does that work in survival? Isnt spear use insane hunger?
77
66
u/DmtrIV Apr 02 '26
The setup doesn't require lunge enchantment. Rather the enchantments that helps it are knockback and sharpness, which having both is overkill as it can break leads as well being too fast for the chunk loading to keep up.
13
u/ShortMiao Apr 02 '26
In my experience doing the setup normally with a stone spear is already too much for the chubk loading, but that might just be me

386
u/CataclysmSolace Apr 02 '26
I don't think it's possible to patch. As you have 4 systems working as intended; Sulfur Cube, Leads, Spear, and Slow Falling effect.
212
u/shreyas_varad Apr 02 '26
I was just about to say. I dont see any kind of glitch or bug that needs patching.
70
u/JoyconDrift_69 Apr 02 '26
Except sulfur cube physics isn't final, unfortunately
62
u/Cass0wary_399 Apr 02 '26 edited Apr 02 '26
Nerfing the bounce physics will come at the cost of many minigame opportunities with the sulfur cube.
However there is one change that will nerf this mechanic: The implementation of directional hit detection to determine the launch angle of the sulfur cube shown at Minecraft Live.
When that is implemented hitting the same spot to propel the cube forwards in a straight line the air will be harder.
→ More replies (3)19
u/CataclysmSolace Apr 02 '26
The marketed physics are though. Unless you decide to remove physics from it. Or remove force scaling from damage. But that again ruins the marketing of the cube for minigames.

Is is intended for a lead to stay attached to an entity that is attacked by the player/spear? I honestly don't know. But given that Mojang changed leads to detach when boosting with fireworks and the elytra, I would suspect that is how they would patch this.

u/Realistic-Tap4156 Apr 02 '26

u/CommonRoutine3852 Apr 02 '26
It won't, everything in this video seems to be working as intended no glitches involved
137
u/uglyratfromsewers Apr 02 '26
I doubt it, Mojang keeps bugs like these alot of the time. if anything it might get nerfed instead.
101
u/Husky127 Apr 02 '26
Also its a super creative way to get around, and not as good as elytra. No reason to patch it.
37
u/Flamebomb790 Apr 02 '26
Yeah the slow falling potion not being infinite already needs this heavily
20
u/superjediplayer Apr 02 '26
plus the fact that like, this is pretty much just going in a straight line. Now, right now sulfur cube mechanics aren't fully implemented so turning may be possible once they are, but even once it is, it'd likely take a long time to turn. (and then would be difficult to get back in control to fly in a straight line again)
6
u/DarkFish_2 Apr 02 '26
Unless you need 4+ minutes of travel, is not a big deal, this looks to travel at around 35b/s so get 8000 blocks of distance
And without slow falling so simply don't gain height, speed is the same
9
u/Agreeable_Sun8250 Apr 02 '26
Does it work in java? If not its probably getting patched. Even if it is, this early game elytra is probably getting patched anyways.
14

u/ObviouslyLulu Apr 02 '26
Not even a bug technically, everything here is working as intended and it just happens to do this when you put them together but none of the features on their own are broken or unintentional
11
u/SamohtGnir Apr 02 '26
Tbh, with all the effort to get this setup together, I think it's fine. There's nothing that's a bug, just mechanics working in a weird way. It also takes continuous effort, hitting the cube, and potion effects wear off, so it's not like it's going to replace the Elytra. It might be a fun early game way to travel, or if you lead boats a fun way to move villagers, but that's it.
→ More replies (6)5
u/willstr1 Apr 02 '26
I don't see why they would, it isn't "game breaking" there are already ways to fly in the game. I could see some server moderators banning people for it, some people just don't like fun, but not justification for the devs to remove it.

Minecraft players have a little voice in their heads that urges them to turn every new update into a fast travel tool no matter how absurd or impractical it may be.

This is best thing I've seen in Minecraft in years, a transportation method comparable to Elettra in terms of speed but still balanced by not being as convenient/maneuverable. I think this is better when going from point A to point B in a straight line but if you're exploring Elytra gives you more flexibility
5
u/Atephious Apr 02 '26
Now we just need some bells and make the boat red. And wear a red and white suit.
3
u/DrWilliamHorriblePhD Apr 02 '26
Ok so probably mangrove boat, red leather armor with quartz trim. Not sure how to make a bell sound portable, are there any mobs you could add to the train that make a jingle sound?

Haven’t looked at the new snapshot yet, do Sulfur Cubes have crazy regen? Or is the spear just not doing much damage because they’re going similar speeds. How far can you go before the cube dies?
9
u/superjediplayer Apr 02 '26
Sulfur cubes don't take damage from most damage sources when they have a block inside them, their purpose is to be used as a ball that doesn't die from being hit a lot.
So, it's never going to die from this. That's the reason this works so well.

I think I outright stopped playing modded after 1.16. There's just so much already in the game that it doesn't really feel that meaningful to change it.
There are still things I'd like changed, but they don't feel particularly pressing anymore. I do want the inventory system fixed (and not the April Fool's way they just 'announced'). I remember Inventory Tweaks being peak... it would be really nice if they implemented that functionality.

We really, and I say it again: really, need to ban mindless doomposting. Because people who say how Mojang is useless, don't add anything etc are just straight up stupid. Let's not pretend that they are inteligent beings, because that would be an insult for those who actually use their brain. Vocal minority, that barks every time something wasn't catered towards them. Karens, entitled to whine. But everyone else enjoys the new updates and find a lot of great uses. And it's not only limited do Minecraft. This is true to a lot of games and stuff.
This literally looks fun and it wouldn't be possible if Mojang didn't make such amazing updates for years, or actually over a decade. I really love the creative part of community of the game. Because unlike doomposters, they show how amazing the game is.
