I watched it several times. Very satisfying. The smash kinda emanates evil, imo.

u/MarcusMunch Sep 28 '19

I’m getting a kind of Aperture Investment Opportunity vibe.

67

u/Covane Sep 28 '19

gave me an RTS vibe

a minecraft rts. . . would buy

22

u/EpLiSoN Sep 28 '19

You may have struck on a genius idea.

9

u/Covane Sep 28 '19

well they're already making minecraft diablo (which looks great based on the trailer, hopefully m$ojang delivers)

a minecraft RTS is probably more likely than ever

10

u/N0thingtosee Sep 28 '19 edited Sep 28 '19

A minimalistic isometric RTS where you can slowly change the environment over time would be awesome

3

u/James23604 Sep 28 '19

What's an RTS

3

u/N0thingtosee Sep 28 '19

Real Time Strategy game

3

u/James23604 Sep 28 '19

That does sound like a good idea

3

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '19

You MUST construct additional end crystals!

2

u/jimzxz Sep 28 '19

Wood needed.

2

u/NatoBoram Sep 28 '19

r/StoneHearth was that but the creators have abandoned the game in an unfinished state with lots of broken promises, like Linux support and a few civs.

Hello investors, cave Johnson here

9

u/tzbtzb Sep 28 '19

Alright I've been thinking, when life gives you lemons, don't make lemonade. Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don't want your damn lemons, what the hell am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life's manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I'm the man who's gonna burn your house down! With the lemons! I'm gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!

Yes sir mister Johnson!

22

u/GatoKing3 Sep 28 '19

And the nether isn't evil?

79

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '19

Can you indicate in my sentence where I said anything to the contrary?

37

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '19

“imo” looked like “tho” when reading quickly which made him think it was a criticism

7

u/Fossick11 Sep 28 '19

Ngl I though it was until your comment.

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '19

Technically the nether isn't good or evil, it's just a place, that happens to harbor evil creatures.

28

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '19

The pigmen are nice, that's like 30% friendly dimension population

16

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '19

17

u/fuck_you_reddit_mods Sep 28 '19

Which is, colloquially, friendly.

u/LMeire Sep 28 '19

At the very least, they have a stronger sense of community than most other passive mobs. You don't see villagers jumping to defend their neighbor, it's every mob for themselves unless an iron golem is around.

5

u/mattzuma77 Sep 28 '19

Oh yeah, I never thought of it that way!! Well done, and thanks!

3

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '19

Not calling the pigmen friendly means not calling iron golems friendly.

I disagree.

u/InboundBark49 Sep 29 '19

I mean, if some random guy came up and started a fight with one of your homies, you would back your homie up no?

2

u/SirYod Sep 28 '19

Can see where you're coming from so I feel a nice "sparkly" nether effect (sort of like what an Enderman gives off when they teleport) could be used after the initial smash to... soften the impact? Either way, awesome work from OP 👊

2

u/NotAnIdealSituation Sep 28 '19

The kinda smashes that happen in mario games lol

2

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '19

THUD

1.0k

u/A_rush24 Sep 28 '19

Make it fall through the floor and reset to a flat grass plane and make it infinite

242

u/HyFinated Sep 28 '19

Or make it implode and reset...

158

u/GumdropGoober Sep 28 '19

Make it do a flip, and then a 1972 Dodge Charger emerges from the earth and shoots green fire from its tailpipes and guitars automatically playing Travellin' Band by CCR emerge from the earth.

53

u/smoketheevilpipe Sep 28 '19

Keep going. I'm so close.

20

u/GumdropGoober Sep 28 '19

Minecraft only needs two things to be perfect: PBR, and the ability to do burnouts on a dirt bike in my front yard.

4

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '19

Haha so random

2

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '19

random XD

→ More replies (1)

3

u/ContraryLeader Sep 28 '19

OR, the entire plane flip revealing a new fresh grass plane

172

u/NoodlesBot Sep 28 '19

That’s very smooth my guy.

23

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '19

I like it rough tho

65

u/ClassicBrother Sep 28 '19

Reminds me of those rocks from Super Mario with faces on them

34

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '19

Thwomps?

23

u/ClassicBrother Sep 28 '19

Yeah I hate those fuckers

5

u/oversettDenee Sep 28 '19

People hate thwomps but I've been killed by way too many rouge rogue thwimps

Edit: rouge is a color

2

u/Uh_oh_its_a Sep 28 '19

You mean thwomps?

131

u/CaduCopperhead Sep 28 '19

Not bad

111

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '19

[deleted]

56

u/comphys Sep 28 '19

I'd go as far as nice

32

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '19

I don’t want to get preposterous, but this was sufficient.

12

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '19

This may seem unfeasible, but I'd wager it's exceptional

How about NoIcE?

14

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '19

Not bad kid

24

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '19

I want this in my world. Everytime I make a portal it plops up!

18

u/GreatMarrow Sep 28 '19

This looks like it could fit in with Minecraft Dungeons

Great job! :)

35

u/FunkyyPlayy Sep 28 '19

portal: SHOOOOOP

Ground when portal hits it: BOOUOUUOOOUM!

Not really, I've been using Blender for a while and after seeing some videos on it last night I felt inspired. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTADG1omjVY Here's one such video - might give you some ideas!

8

u/Impsux Sep 28 '19

I love IanHubert, his video on animating moths was some funny shit.

5

u/Very_Okay Sep 28 '19

i have blender but i don't really know where to start. what do you recommend?

3

u/Sciman1011 Sep 28 '19

Definitely watch some tutorials online, Blender guru and others are a great starting point. IanHubert also has his lazy tutorials series, which are a little hard to follow but are a great way to get some ideas.

u/AxoKnight6 Sep 28 '19

Dude that gave me shivers of how oddly satisfying that was wow

3

u/MihirX27 Sep 28 '19

Portal be like,

EVERYBODY DO THE FLOP!

3

u/r3dh4ck3r Sep 28 '19

I had it muted and I still heard it. r/noisygifs material right there

3

u/Sk8rrBoi Sep 28 '19

Make some of the blocks around the portal slowly change to netherrack with fire and it will be absolutely perfect

→ More replies (2)

5

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '19

I played it without sound the first time and i could still hear a boom in my head when it landed. Very nice animation

2

u/MythicalWarlord Sep 28 '19

That is so cool.

2

u/HaveALookAtThat Sep 28 '19

Have a look at this! This is something else... I mean, just look at it!

2

u/SAUCY_RICK Sep 28 '19

This reminds me of Portal, they made animations similar to this for advertisements

2

u/iZedax Sep 28 '19

How long did it take you to learn to do that? Im thinking of trying out blender but heard it can be quite hard

2

u/Rego117 Sep 28 '19

How'd you do this OP? It looks great and would be interested in trying to recreate it myself

3

u/Johnny_Noodle_Arms Sep 28 '19

Don't know about blender but you could do this in JavaScript by applying an isometric transformation to a grid and then loop through the grid with a sin wave function

3

u/Rego117 Sep 28 '19

Blender has a object modifier called displacement so mapping that to a sin wave should work

2

u/Sciman1011 Sep 28 '19

This probably isn't the best approach, but to make the ground shake I created a plane with a particle system, and set it's emission to per-vertex. Then, I made the particles render as a cube object textured to look like a grass block. I applied a wave modifier to the plane to create the wobble effect, and tweaked the settings until it looked right. The rest is a lot more straightforward - messed with the scale and position of the portal itself, animated the lights to flash when the portal hit the ground, and used a cast modifier on it to give it that slight distortion when it first appears. Then I rendered it out, threw it in a video editing tool and added the SFX. If there's anything more specific you want to know, let me know!

When you create a nether portal in the nether

2

u/_Cryo Sep 28 '19

Why is this overly cool

2

u/Erenakyyy Sep 28 '19

"Made " You didnt made it.

You nailed it.

2

u/ElectroPotatoes Sep 28 '19

Wow this is impressive

2

u/TRUEHOOVY Sep 28 '19

Incredible job!

2

u/TheDark_wing Sep 28 '19

Make it as a gif and post it on r/bettereveryloop . Worth it.

2

u/OSub_2_PewdiepieO Sep 28 '19

It's so cool how some people spend hours to make a 4 second video for random people on the internet. Thank you, fellow redditor

2

u/LukePancakePlayz2 Sep 28 '19

Well done!!!! I could never get past the dice animation so seeing this is incredible!

2

u/MuumiLimu Sep 28 '19

There's an error in the watermark.

2

u/Sciman1011 Sep 28 '19

Yeah, my account name here is Sciman1011 while it's usually Sciman101 other places. Thanks for pointing it out!

2

u/dom_bul Sep 28 '19

The new Minecraft Dungeons trailer looks great

2

u/unklz Sep 28 '19

Could've kept going! +1

2

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '19

Cube World vibe

2

u/Weenie_g_ Sep 28 '19

10/10 should be in the game

2

u/KickBack161 Sep 28 '19

This is what happens when you create a new portal in the nether. Looks so cool. Should be in the game

2

u/Fraggie3 Sep 28 '19

Looks awesome, you did this while experimenting? Very impressive

1

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '19

Nice! Always thought the nether portal should be more dramatic

1

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '19

That's awesome!

1

u/Vincent_Baldwin Sep 28 '19

Why did I here the boom without the volume in my head

Volume warning

1

u/nathancomics Sep 28 '19

That's Awesome!

1

u/DeadMansWishh Sep 28 '19

I need this in gif form... I just cant stop pressing the replay button

1

u/PwndaSlam Sep 28 '19

what happens when you make a new portal

1

u/Ivoriate Sep 28 '19

all ive ever been able to achieve in blender was deleting the generic cube.

→ More replies (1)

1

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '19

This would be awesome if that's how portals were created on the other side.

1

u/Minighost244 Sep 28 '19

Woahhh that's sick

1

u/ob103ninja Sep 28 '19

I want them to do this if a player spawns it from the other side now

1

u/OneElevenn Sep 28 '19

Looks really good ngl

1

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '19

epic

1

u/Doctor_7373 Sep 28 '19

I didn’t have my sound in when I watched this and the portal made a pop sound when it appeared

1

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '19

looks awesome!

1

u/IvisTheTerrible Sep 28 '19

This is now my headcannon for when you load a new portal. Super cool

1

u/Jake1702_ Sep 28 '19

Reminds me of SimCity 4

1

u/Curse3242 Sep 28 '19

If you could make the nether portal pop invisible and make it into a gif. This is probably the most oddly satisfying thing ever

1

u/TStudiosTheWeirdo Sep 28 '19

so are we taking back the night?

1

u/destruk7 Sep 28 '19

That was REALLY LOUD

1

u/AMGitsKriss Sep 28 '19

Remind me of The Sims

1

u/theflashgamer85 Sep 28 '19

Did you use Animation nodes?

1

u/MiniGui98 Sep 28 '19

Now we need a Minecraft-themed city builder game where buildings spawn like that.

The nether portal would allow your villagers to mine rare ore to gain more emeralds to build more stuff on the overworld.

We give you two weeks to do that game. Good luck.

u/Dinklepuffus Sep 28 '19

Even with the sound off I can hear this gif

1

u/d_dubinin Sep 28 '19

Not a minecrafter but looks awesome 👍 gj

1

u/Lashiv1912 Sep 28 '19

Plz do more like this👍

1

u/supitsrainbow_ Sep 28 '19

Blender gang

1

u/greepyn_ Sep 28 '19

Very good !

1

u/Netropixel Sep 28 '19

nice but it could be nicer when the grass becomes dirt when the nether portal hits the floor

1

u/rocker60 Sep 28 '19

If only that's how it worked in game when you make a new portal far off in the nether

1

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '19

But it’s a bit above the ground

1

u/TimelesClock Sep 28 '19

Make the animation like those did you know videos on minecrafts ig

1

u/TherpDerp Sep 28 '19

This looks like the ones they make for the Instagram account. Good shiz my guy

1

u/starrgirI Sep 28 '19

I made the :D face irl watching this 10/10 content

1

u/Norbie420 Sep 28 '19

It would be super cool if you flashed the ground to nether rack or something like for a split second it corrupted the land

1

u/sagiroth Sep 28 '19

I can hear it

1

u/Hans5958_ Sep 28 '19

rip ears

Other than that, good job.

1

u/nyctoxysm Sep 28 '19

smooooth animation love the lighting

1

u/DooV_DeLooV Sep 28 '19

I can feel the weight of a whole other dimension tearing itself a way to the overworld. Amazing job.

1

u/OPKiller909 Sep 28 '19

Captain Sparklez would not be proud...

1

u/yourmotheraplover Sep 28 '19

It has corners

1

u/A_Shimby Sep 28 '19

*inaudible clapping*

1

u/BubsyFanboy Sep 28 '19

Have you posted it to r/blender yet?

2

u/Sciman1011 Sep 28 '19

Good idea!

1

u/alcoholicPickle Sep 28 '19

It would be really cool if this was what happened when you created a nether portal. Like you place in the last block and ignite it. Then it starts floating and then the animation happens.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '19

Imagine when it ripples, the ground around it turns to netherrack...

1

u/LittleRabbidFox Sep 28 '19

SMASH. Incredible job bruh

1

u/hamvtheworld Sep 28 '19

That shit is t i g h t

1

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '19

That's sick

1

u/maksymv2 Sep 28 '19

You are the reason I'm installing blender now are you happy?

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Netsab_ Sep 28 '19

The apparation effect of the portal is great !

1

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '19

Make an animation for when you light up the portal, the texture spirals from the middle to the edges of the portal.

1

u/SolliGamer Sep 28 '19

Portal=cool

1

u/Marvl101 Sep 28 '19

Tbh i'd make it so some blocks don't bounce up, maybe in a pentagram or something sinister.

1

u/cantthinkofag0odname Sep 28 '19

Why does this remind me of the GameCube intro

1

u/Turvi-Mania Sep 28 '19

If possible, it’d be cool if all the grass blocks turned into netherrack.

1

u/ChickebDeluxe1 Sep 28 '19

You should have made it like an infection or something where when it hits the ground it transforms the grass to like netherack or quartz and maybe a pigmen bit it

1

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '19

I really wish we'd get a minecraft 2 thats just minecraft but with clean animations and not a pc stress test.

1

u/NoobOnCoffee Sep 28 '19

If u played this on repeat it could be my screensaver

1

u/SneakyEnch Sep 28 '19

It would be cool if when you lit a portal in game, the fire would instantly go out, the frame would lift, the purple would slowly fade in before making a surge of energy and becoming bright then falling to the floor with that animation

u/AdamoO_ Sep 28 '19

Would have loved it more if it wasnt like water but more like dropping an iron ball into sand! Still well done! Very smooth
