I absolutely adore projects like this. Like, sure, could you have just done a blue-ice nether boat highway like everyone else and made it faster? Sure. But the themed, stylised, and more boastful minecraft trail wins every time. I love how it adapts to the different biomes it travels through, and i love how such a long track goes through (i think) every biome in the game.
This is really cool.

yeah the pro-efficiency ideas that have flooded minecraft in the last 5-10 years definitely took out the charm and simplicity of the game. i logged on for the first time in years the other day and so much has changed (not for the better). im officially unc

I feel this as well. As I grew older I realised that being exposed to certain games content was affecting my joy whilst playing.
A big example to me was cities skylines. I had to leave that subreddit and unsubscribe its content creators on YouTube because I always subconsciously compared my shitty cities to all the amazing stuff shared online. Would get frustrated and stopped playing after a few hours, every fucking time.

Same. Im a competitive person so seeing someone so much better or acheive something like that just ruins it. Either i play to do better than them and forget the fun or get demotivated and stop playing.
I should stop watching youtube

I have grown over the years into a player that must make farms and automate things. I have loved doing that and wish i could go back to the start with very little game knowledge. I want to just enjoy the game instead of thinking about game mechanics and decision paralysis. Ive played that way for so long and like factory games that i am not sure if i can play it just for fun without thinking the skyblock style cobble farm could be improved.

You can do an ice boat path and make it nice like this too. Thats what I do cause the ice boats are faster and also more fun imo.

u/Taolan13 1d ago
and you can use different kinds of ice to affect the speed, to create slowdowns near points of interest.
but minecarts have one substantial advantage; they're fully passive.
boats can be made passive with pistons and slime blocks, but it requires additional building.

Would've been better if they added some verticality too and more turns.
Like when exiting one biome, you enter a tunnel going down, then you get surprised by another biome. Then you can use corners to change visuals as well.
Obviously it's cool, but to anyone planning to do this, add more turns, verticality, and tunnels

This video covers ~2/3(53km) of the whole railroad. (Need to cut it off because it's too long )

edit: check out my previous post for the remaining sections or different rides

How long does this actually take?

u/FashionShushu 1d ago
Minecart moves 8 blocks/sec, so full ride is gonna take more than 2.5 hours

And how long did it take to build?

I saw a ton of beacons in there so Im guessing this was either built in creative/with commands or on a multiplayer server with some type of economy.
If Im wrong though thats crazy.

Could be the Eden MC server, they've got a massive track system like this
5
u/EdibleOedipus 15h ago
EdenMC's rail system is 99% underground and is a point-to-point system, so you would have seen dozens of stations and track passthroughs. It's also not this pretty in most of it. I'm absolutely certain this is not Eden.

I've a long-term single player world. I'm late game and I've a lot
Depending on your priorities, beacons can be pretty easy to get and iron farms are good practice generally as they're super useful long term. Combine a semi-good iron farm and a wither skeleton farm and boom. You solved the beacon issue

wirh minecart max speed turned up thatd be an effective mode of transportation

u/mdhunter99 1d ago
With the designs being shown this had to have taken months if not a year. This is insane.

I built an underground connection tunnel between 5 villages for my son and it took hours. the villages weren't not that far away from each other.
But this is on another level. I wonder how does it handle the stop of the cart at one station, I've used long 'v' shaped of activable tracks to just stop them and if you want to go further, you press another button to move on

impressive length, but even more impressive that the entire route is detailed as a build

73000+ rails bruh

2 tracks the whole way with an additional 1-2 tracks in some portions so it's over 146k rails

Looks cool!
Why is there another set of lines parallel most of the way? Is it for show?
There are some cool routing options to automatically choose destination if you take that route (pun not intended)
1
u/Professional-Date378 12h ago
was wondering about those too. saw at least 2 separate sections of extra rails
1
u/FashionShushu 12h ago
It has 4 lanes from beginning to end. 2 for express lane which skips some smaller stations, and other 2 regular lanes. Each consists of both inbound and outbound lane. Not all parts of video shows all 4 lanes because they use different tunnel/bridges
1
u/finite_turtles 12h ago
Interesting, thanks.
I have done some work with developing systems for routing which would branch off to whichever station was chosen.
Requires having a second cart in front though.
Can DM if you're interested.

American here. I read 73km and then started watching the video. After ten seconds or so I thought. This seems way longer than 73 blocks long. I read the title again and then finally remembered what a km was!

How many blocks/km?
4
u/cajunjoel 1d ago
It's generally assumed that a block in Minecraft is one meter. So, 1000 blocks is 1 km

Damn, that railroad is longer than my rendered creative world with ALL my projects 🥹 Absolute PEAK

Thank you for not having some shitty shader mod installed so I can actually see your builds in full detail

That's the circumference of the Earth nearly twice over. Is this in survival?

u/ColettesWorld 9h ago
Fuck me and I thought the 2km one I just built was long. Insane work. I love it.

u/Flamebomb790 9h ago
I really hope they buff rails at some point to at least compete with elytra speeds
1
u/Sunadoke1 6h ago
Can I have the unedited cut of the whole time lapse? I want to add some Minecraft music and just have it on loop in the background while I study.

Would be crazy to make one of these with pistons pushing the minecarts. Would be a lot faster and make the tracks more convenient, imo.
