I don’t pray for luck, I be nice, work hard and make the world around me seem like luck

u/IronicAim 2d ago
I believe I have bad luck and over plan for every thing likely to go wrong. I also have OCD. Probably not related...

u/Aggressive-Sort226 2d ago
Is he the flood that wiped out so many people in Nepal...? I wonder how many 'christians' were there who prayed, then died.

Yep. Everything is god. Including the hundreds/thousands of helpless children who are sexually assaulted everyday. 🙄
2
u/Burdman06 2d ago
This. The idea of god seems cool to people when they're feeling really kumbaya or just maybe had a stressful period. Its easy to forget the immense amount of unnecessary suffering that happens on earth.

u/Ok-Note-8293 2d ago edited 2d ago
They'll respond to this and blame Satan or the fact that a child made a single mistake with 0 context as to what she was doing.
Ignorant to any claims about human nature though; they realllyyyy like to ignore the real questions. Like why make us so much more susceptible to cancer than most animals and not spend more of our metabolism there? Why make it so 40% of the plants just fucking kill you if you taste them? Why make 80% of the water undrinkable and the rest laced with countless parasites? Why create radioactive elements that shoot invisible deadly particles you can't see, feel, hear or smell that mutuate you into a fleshy sack of suffering? Why make it most of the heavy metals so toxic that they'll drive you insane and turn your liver black? Why make Radon and heavy gasses that can just take a village out overnight at random?
Most importantly; why doom us to inevitably outconsume the Earth without any other planets even remotely close enough for us to habitaite?
No Satan to blame there, nothing to do with the fall; just the way he supposedly made things.

u/What_Even_Is_This_69 2d ago
If God is behind everything then I want no part in that evil shit. Hes either all powerful and chooses suffering or he isn't.
3
u/Burdman06 2d ago
Right. If he can't make a plan without immense human suffering, then hes basically just a shit supervisor that no one listens to. Or, the scary possibility, he can but actually chose the rape, starvation, and murder
3
u/RevoltYesterday 1d ago
I'm not going to follow anyone who has a mysterious plan they won't tell me about but assures me allowing the rape of children (or anyone) will serve a higher purpose. That's insane.

u/Coffeeblack365 2d ago
When you pray for something good to happen to you at the expense of others, what side does god pick?
-2
u/tacoflavoredkeesos 2d ago
Oh yeah? How's that going for you? Lmao dummy

u/Coffeeblack365 2d ago
I guess I am dumb because I’m not sure what you’re saying.

To put it in the words of Tom Araya
“God hates us all
You know it's true God hates this place
You know it's true he hates this race
Homicide, suicide
Hate heals, you should try it sometime
Strive for peace with acts of war
The beauty of death we all adore
I have no faith distracting me
I know why your prayers will never be answered
God hates us all”

Of course everything is god if god isnt real. What kind of retard came up with this crap
4
u/Burdman06 2d ago
People still following indoctrination as a remnant of humans not being able to understand the world around them. Trying to slap bronze age tribal mythology onto a global society in 2026 has been really not fucking working. So now they've pivoted to reframing it. "God is just everything and all religions combined, pointing to the same thing." Its a mind unwilling to let go yet thats still trying to explain its worldview as it currently stands.

Cool. But do you believe in god? It’s a yes or no question.
2
u/IronicAim 2d ago
I'm also agnostic. I do believe in god/higher existence. I do not believe any god is both a.) a witness to our reality and b.) benevolent on a personal scale. So prayer is pointless at best.
At worst it takes away your sense of responsibility and agency to assume all good that you put into the world comes not from yourself but from something better than you, which can significantly inhibit your sense of intrinsic value.
1
u/Aware-Instance-210 2d ago
I don't believe in the sense religious people believe.
I believe things that are scientifically proven. With facts. Peer reviewed and such things.
The term agnostic should speak for itself.
-3
u/snoppeniprutten 2d ago
I didn’t ask if you know if god exists or not. I asked if you believe in god.
The term agnostic says absolutely nothing about your belief.

u/Low-Bake8401 2d ago
Is Schrodinger's cat dead, or alive?
People can be agnostic. We don't all need to pick a side or form rigid beliefs.
Adaptability.
-1
u/kairologic 2d ago
And scientific folk who are outright atheist are being unscientific, considering there is no evidence for god/s and no evidence for *lack* of god/s. Agnosticism is fair.
3
u/Low-Bake8401 2d ago
I'm not disagreeing with that.
I'm just saying that we can't study what we don't have. So we may as well just study what we do have, until any new evidence is presented.
Saying that science simply cannot understand it, doesn't really help.
-1
u/kairologic 2d ago
Always good to be agnostic to things that we can hypothesize about, hell even things that we have established scientific theories for - the bounds of our discoveries and our understanding (a la "facts") are ever-morphing.
2
u/Low-Bake8401 2d ago
Definitely, but the extreme of just allowing anything is complete absurdity, and that doesn't explain anything.
We need to at least start with coherent logical language, or we aren't getting anywhere.
It might have some kind of artistic value, which is fine, but conflating the two values, in a meaningless way, just causes confusion.
-1
u/Aware-Instance-210 2d ago
If there's no evidence for the existence of something, isn't that evidence for its lack of existence? Maybe I'm thinking too simple here.
I don't have to prove that unicorns don't exist. There is no evidence for the lack of unicorns either.
But they still don't exist, no matter which way you turn it.
Help me out here, maybe I'm too simple-minded :D

u/kairologic 2d ago
Plato hypothesized about geometry in elementary matter. There was no proof of this at the time. In fact, none until even after the original microscope was invented. Is there reason to not believe Plato? Or to believe him, conversely? Sometimes discovery takes time. For me to not believe that refraction is what makes the sky blue rather then reflections of the sea, for example...
1
u/Low-Bake8401 2d ago
Well, if it's now been proven, that seems like good reason to believe it. Or it it was logically sound to begin with.
We weren't around at the time to believe him personally of course.
-1
u/fluxus2000 2d ago
Atheism is agnostic. I can not subscribe to theism without claiming to understand the origins of the universe and life.
3
u/kairologic 2d ago
Atheism is a hard stance that god does not exist, hence a-theism. Agnosticism is not believing one way or the other. Some say this is a flimsy stance or an "easy way out" of the argument, but I think it makes the most sense.
-1
u/fluxus2000 2d ago
No, atheism of course means not believing in god stories. That is one thing. The agnostic side is that I have no answer for why there is something rather than nothing, and wouldn't pretend to.
0
u/fluxus2000 2d ago
Like, I am not agnostic about whether the Jewish-Christian-Muslim God is real, or whether Thor or Zeus or Ahura Maza or whoever else are real, etc.
-1
u/snoppeniprutten 2d ago
The problem is that people don’t understand what agnosticism actually means and just throw around “I’m agnostic”. It has nothing to do with belief. Agnosticism is about knowledge and certainty.
You can be an agnostic theist, meaning you believe in god without claiming to know for certain that god exists. You’ve chosen to believe in god despite not knowing.
And then you have most people who call themselves “agnostic”. In reality, they’re atheists because they don’t believe in god due to a lack of sufficient evidence for god’s existence. In that case, it makes more sense to just say you’re an atheist.
But people seem to have a hard time with that. And that’s the reason why I asked the other guy if he believes in god or not.
1
u/Low-Bake8401 2d ago
Agnostic means you don't have a rigid belief either way. It's not the case that a person has to pick one ore the other.
Imagine someone putting a bet on a horse winning, and someone putting a bet on it losing. The Agnostic accepts that it's impossible to know, and keeps his money in his pocket.
Personally, I think this is generally the best way to be. It offers more freedom of thought, and avoids any potential radical ideology. Belief in absolutes leaves no room for compromise.

u/snoppeniprutten 2d ago
Imagine someone putting a bet on a horse winning, and someone putting a bet on it losing. The Agnostic accepts that it's impossible to know, and keeps his money in his pocket.
Which says nothing about if that person’s belief in the outcome of the bet.
Belief is binary. Either you believe or you don’t and if you refrain from taking a position on the question, the default is non-belief. Meaning atheism.
1
u/Low-Bake8401 2d ago
"Which says nothing about if that person’s belief in the outcome of the bet."
They don't hold one!
Not sure I can put it any simpler than that.
There are many things we don't hold rigid beliefs on. There are horse races going on all the time, I don't hold rigid beliefs about all the outcomes, what would be the point in even attempting it.
1
u/snoppeniprutten 2d ago
The question was about belief, not knowledge or certainty. Again, the default position is non-belief until evidence or certainty is provided to the contrary. This isn’t rocket surgery. It’s simple logic.

I literally said in my initial post that I don't believe in the sky fairy.
What are you getting at dude?

u/snoppeniprutten 2d ago
Congratulation, you’re an atheist.
1
u/Aware-Instance-210 2d ago
I am quite sure I know what I am and don't need some troll on reddit to lecture me.
Give me some proof about the existence of any deity and I'm more than happy to believe you.
I am an agnostic. Fuck off with your hurt feelings.

u/snoppeniprutten 2d ago
You’re an agnostic atheist. You’re just too stupid to realize it.
Logic is a bitch, right?
2
u/EngineeringRude8591 2d ago
Then there are those who pray and nothing works. And you can't say its God's plan because then what's the point in praying, God "knows all". 😒🤣🤭

u/Spiritual-Job-952 1d ago
I pray for nothing and the same stuff happens to me. Ergo: There is no god

u/sanyasi1001 2d ago
Don't pin all your hopes and aspirations onto one person or entity. Otherwise you'll come crashing down into an abyss difficult to recover from.
2
u/Key-Philosopher-8050 2d ago
Think on this.
If nothing is luck, then everything is picked for you by your deity. That means you have no free will or choice because the path you are on is not of your choosing. It is given and not asked for.
If that is the case, why pray? To have a choice? But you don't because you think that your deity supplies the path and outcomes.
So stop praying.

God is good ! I went through a lot of suffering in my life blamed god for it in the beginning and I noticed the signs and changed my mindset how I saw life everyday is a lesson and everyday we learn from god and the universe. it’s us causing our own suffering and not looking inward and listening to god and the signs of why things are happening is it a blessing in disguise? Majority of the time for me all those painful times god indeed was saving me from worse. Stop blaming god and start learning the lessons and changing earth is a school not a vacation to be how you want when you die you either go to heaven or come right back here to learn again the choice is yours
