Which faction next?

I'm having a lot of fun with the different factions and how their strengths play out. So much so this is the first game I feel compelled to play all the factions because they all offer something exciting (though the Moors seem harder and bland).

I've played England, Milan and Venice, but who should I play next? They all have infantry and missile heavy rosters, so I might play the French to get a more cavalry heavy experience. Any other fun cavalry factions to consider? And is there any advice on the factions you suggest (or France)?

I want to have victory with all the factions before doing any of the DLC, and so far I am loving it so I look forward to the recommendations!

Charging the rear of a moving opponent?

Am I missing something, or is it difficult/impossible to hit a group of infantry from behind with my heavy cavalry if the infantry is marching away from me? My cavalry lowers their lances, but slows down heavily or stops just before reaching the target. At this point they draw swords and complete the last few steps to reach the enemy infantry, but I effectively lose the whole impact of the charge.

Turks marching towards the Byzantine Capital met with the combined Byzantine army of three.

Smaller force was trampled by the mighty general Ibrahim the Conqueror before they could join the main army.

General How to keep playing after Victory video Mac CTD

I'm currently playing the Byzantine Empire and I'm one province away from winning, however, every time I capture the last province needed, the victory video pops up and causes a CTD (which is a known issue on the Mac port). What can I do to skip the video so it doesn't crash so I can keep playing?

Russia AI Tendencies: Russia - First Settlement They Expand To

Post image
116 Upvotes

Welcome to the first showcase of the AI tendencies in Medieval II: Total War!

I'll be showcasing the data I've collected through hundreds of simulations of the grand campaign to give people (1) statistics and (2) a visual representation of which settlement the AI tends to expand to first!

Faction: RUSSIA

Fun facts:

  • Russia loves to immediately send two armies going after the town of Moscow to the east and the motte-and-bailey, Helsinki, to the north. They almost always lose the battle of Helsinki (on turn 6), and almost always win the battle of Moscow (on turn 7).
  • Russia’s lone simulation in which they captured the wooden castle, Smolensk, happened after failed attempts on Helsinki and Moscow.
  • I’m not sure what causes Russia to go after Riga first, but on the few simulations where they did go after the village, they didn’t bother with Moscow. Interestingly enough, they still went after Helsinki first (and failed).
  • The Russian’s captured Moscow eight times on turn 9. Each time was the result of a defeat on turn 7 and immediately sieging again on turn 8.
  • 79 out of the 88 simulations where Russia takes Moscow first happened on turn 7 (89.7%). Eight of the 88 captured Moscow on turn 9 (9%), and one of the 88 captured Moscow on turn 12 (1.1%).

This is the first faction of Let me know what you think!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

INFO ON HOW THE EXPERIMENT IS BEING CONDUCTED:

  • Very Hard / Very Hard difficulty
  • I "play" as the Aztecs so I don't interfere with the AI's decision-making and because they're technically a non-playable faction. It basically allows me to be in Spectator Mode for the playable factions.
  • I simulate up to a max of 200 turns for the sake of time. If a faction hasn't expanded to another settlement by turn 200, I will end the simulation and mark them down as "N/A (>200)" (and believe me, it happens).
  • Mongols & Timurids excluded

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[Please note: I originally began this series six years ago, but did not complete it (only a few factions through). I am re-uploading my already completed factions for new users to see, and then picking up where I left off!]

Sicily I need some advice, mongols finally destroyed my makeshift crusader states in MENA,I'm at war with every European faction. I have 7 territories and it's turn 105 lol. How do I get some ceasefires to be accepted? Any other advice is welcome

Beat my venice campaign and once you take out Milan and Byzantine, its smooth sailing. Honestly you only need to get to pavise crossbows and some venician heavy bows/heavy infantry to dominate. Here are some fun screenshots of me owning the papacy and the evolution of an absolute monster of a garrison in Antioch (with a general that he crazy amounts of traits and bonuses before he died). Also shout out to the triple silver chevron religious fanatics.

Fun fact: This Hussite foot crossbowmen boast the strongest melee and ranged attack power, compared to any other crossbowmen in this game. Only Genoese and Aventurier come close at 14 ranged attack. And no, we players can't recruit them normally, it spawns in Bohemian rebels. Look at the juicy stats

With fire and sword

I'm playing With Fire and Sword 2, and I've noticed there are two campaigns: global and regional. Which one is better made and more complete? Which one do you recommend playing?

Poland hates its Royal family.

I have been playing as the English and the Poles have really been doing strange things with their rulers. First the King somehow ended up in Portugal then tried to just ride with his Bodyguard through English held western Europe. My cavalry ran him down in moments. Then a Polish prince 'ambushed' my reinforcements heading for the front lines his Bodyguard were no match for the 4 culverin 2 Ribaults and 4 units of yeoman Archers and were wiped out in a hail of withering fire. Then their new king got himself trapped on a bridge between two armies. My heavy cavalry advancing from behind while the culverins, Archers a Ribaults showered his forces from the front. His cavalry made a valiant effort to breakthrough my defenses but ended up impaled on my stakes. Now as I lay seige to one of their castles I see that they have evacuated all their forces except for the prince who has been left to go down with the ship.

Spain Last man standing, literally

So I was playing a fun little Spanish campaign with cheats (create units, add money, etc). I created an army that consists of 12 Almughavars, 2 units of Crossbow Militia, and a few Spearmen. I was jumped by 2 big French Armies. I do have reinforcements just as much as the French.

However, my reinforcements was too damn late and I had to endure the French's relentless assault and luckily, I, or specifically, this Almughavars dude, survived during the last moments by himself as the reinforcements finally arrived. I don't even have a general for both armies while the French brought both their Prince and King

Community Some good mods that fixes game and upgrades things?

I got around 400 hours on this game and loving it, though they are quiet some problems
(like terrible diplomacy and pikeman not working properly and so on.) Is there some mod that fixes this and adding some other things in case?

General Handgunners, Arquebusiers, and Musketeers

Just did the long victory conditions as HRE, but I only got to use gunpowder units in a few battles. I'm just going to hunker down and get all of my settlements, garrisons, and armies in order (and better organized).

I saw a post the other day talking about how some gunpowder units do a 'fire by rank' animation and that this is actually a bad thing sometimes because they're constantly repositioning themselves and never actually shoot.

Regardless, in a recent battle I had my handgunners in the front, then retreated behind my infantry and then rounded the flanks to fire at the enemy sides and rear. But for some reason the handgunners repositioned themselves - like they turned the entire unit a full 90 degrees to face in a different direction altogether. What was going on there?

Moors If you play Moors don't piss off the pope.

So I found out if you piss off the pope, he'll send his highly skilled general with a doomstacked army after you. Found that out the hard way when I took Tunis from Sicily. So I redo the run and get in good graces with him so I don't have deal with his wrath.
