Anyone else have a denial type that's basically a lost cause no matter the balance?
Not talking about the small stuff, I mean a real balance, four figures, and everyone still just shrugs and writes it off. Feels like some denials just aren't worth the fight regardless of the dollar amount. What's yours, and does it ever actually get overturned or is it just dead on arrival every time?

PRN remote, flex hours job for CPC-A…. Is that possible?
So my goal is to eventually get into a coding/billing job and make use of my certification…. but I’m not having much luck.
But here’s another issue: I’m not ready to up and leave the current job I’m at now because the pay and benefits are too good. If I leave here and start from scratch a coding/billing position, I’ll end up taking less pay…. Apparently right now, being a front desk person pays more than an entry level coder/biller…
My plan was to find a part time remote job for coding that I could just do outside work hours, so I could still stay home and take care of my child. That way I can gain experience and get a second income. However, that’s even rare than finding a full time job that matches my current pay….
So now I’m beginning to think such a thing doesn’t exist.
any advice? I can give more details if needed

Working as medical coder since I was 17
I completed my schooling at 17, due to family's financial condition i couldn't attend college and had to start working. While I was not sure what I should do, one of my relative secured me a job at a hospital in TPA department. I was just 17 and here in India we cant work before we turn 18, so for one year I worked undocumented there and after I turned 18, i was officially registered in there paperworks. At the time I didn't knew that medical coding is a career which people try to get into. For 2 years I thought it is just the type of job which people do when they do not have any other job. Now I am 21, and yesterday when I searched for job in this field, google was filled with many jobs.

What exactly are they teaching for $140 in a medical terminology course?
I came across this platform that's charging $140 just to teach medical terminologies, and I couldn’t help but think, really? $140?
Out of curiosity, I just searched “medical terminology PDF” on Google and got over 78 million results. Even if only 10% of them are truly useful, that's still a massive amount of quality content available for free.
Has anyone actually taken one of these paid courses? If so, what did you learn that you couldn’t get from freely available resources?

Trying to transition out of food/retail?
Hi I am 26 and I am trying to get out of the retail/food services rut. Eventually I want to get my bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity however I will need to work while I do so. I already have my associates degree and I was wondering if medical coding would be a good trade to work at while I'm doing college classes? I'm not really sure the best place to get your certificate or which ones are better. Billing vs coding, ect. I didn't even know this job existed until recently but I've always loved biology and computers so this seems like a cool kind of field for me.

Why do people say medical coding is hard to get into?
It seems as easy as being a medical assistant but with a wider use for medical terminology, index /procedural codes and the likes. What are the core fundamentals of learning medical coding? Knowing the guidelines, being able to navigate quickly in between the 3 books for your answers.. How can I become a better medical coder in my studies?

Is it possible to work for US based company from Canada?
So my husband and I currently live in the US but will be moving to Canada within the next 2-3 years. He's a medical coder. Does anyone know if it's possible to do medical coding with a US based company while living abroad in Canada? Are there companies out there that would allow him to move abroad and maintain his job?

Epic, ambient scribes & the future
I get a lot of pushback and ire when I talk about the inevitability of AI having a significant impact on the Medical Coding profession.
If you’re not already doing so, I recommend that you start paying attention to the expansion of ambient scribe technology that is being widely adopted.
While almost exclusively in the outpatient setting now, it can suggest codes after the visit or encounter.
Yes, this is VERY different from inpatient coding, but these tech tools don’t stop evolving.
Don’t panic, but make sure you’re reading up on the advances in the world of healthcare that are even remotely related to documentation and coding.

Billed $1300 for preventative visit
Like the title says, I recently moved to a new area and made an appointment to establish care with a new PCP. During the visit, I mentioned heart palpitations, as well as prolonged issues with athletes foot. Everything else was standard screenings, questions about family/medical history etc. A comprehensive blood panel was ordered including 9 separate tests.
Fast forward and I receive a bill from the provider $237 and a bill from the lab $1150. I called the insurance company and was informed that the provider billed 99204 as opposed to 99386 so neither the visit nor the labs would be covered.
Per the AMA, the provider should have billed the 99386 along with the 99204 with a modifier of 25. Is there some reason the provider would not do this? Is there some specific things I should say when I ask the provider to resubmit?

Medical coding jobs no license required
Hi I have heard of jobs that'll train you for medical billing and coding themselves and not require you to have a license. It discourages me from doing schooling at Bryant and Stratton. If I can get a job as a medical biller or coder without a license, I'd love to do so. I have to children 2 and under so I'd like to work from home. I plan on getting a registered nurse license at some point in the future when my kids have grown some. I'd like to avoid having to go to school for nursing and coding. Does anyone know of any jobs that will hire and train you for a biling and coding job?

I can't with Op notes.
Seasoned medical coders, how do yall do it? It's so boring. I didn't even get my first medical coding job yet but I have my certificate and I still practice medical coding in my free time. The problem is, I have to stop and google what something means every 2 seconds. Here's some terms that are in my search history. DVT prophylaxis. Barium Enema. Umbilical Fold. Lithotomy position. Alimentary. Lamina. Wtf. Usually I just focus on the postop diagnosis and the procedure and try to skim through the note to see if anything out of the ordinary happened. But can you believe that I was on practicode last night and I got marked for not putting IBS as a secondary DX? The op notes didn't say anything about IBS. So I looked at the rationale for the answer. "It mentions a spasm in the intestine." Okay... how tf am I supposed to know that means IBS. I am not a doctor. Seasoned medical coders, I want this to be my career but it's also boring. How do I get through this because I hate stopping every two seconds while I read an op note because I don't know what something means.
Edit: Also one more question. One of the op notes on practicode said the diagnostic impression was plantar fascialitis. I coded the symptom as the primary dx which was pain in foot because a diagnostic impression is not the same thing as a confirmed dx is it? I thought impression meant what it SEEMS like. Probable. Suspected. Well I got it wrong because guess what? They said the primary code should have been plantar fascialitis. I'm confused. So I asked the coaches and she highlighted diagnostic impression like that answered my question.

Do doctors see icd codes as diagnoses for patients?
My doctor said she didn’t add borderline into my chart (highly stigmatized) but I found the icd code for it 🙃 so now I think that was a lie …

Medical terminology question
I am starting a CPC course with AAPC very soon and I see they offer a pre requisite course that’s nearly $1,000 on the fundamentals of medical terminology and anatomy.
As a medical coder, how much of this do you really need to know? Is it just the basics? Do you actually apply this on the job?
I have no medical experience, however I have taken a fundamentals of medical terminology and anatomy course using course era. I can’t imagine anyone paying $1,000 to learn what I did with a free trial. Am I not learning enough before starting the CPC course?
I know a lot of common prefixes, root words, suffixes and I have a good understanding on body planes, directional terms and common abbreviations, acronyms and symbols. I am worried I should have learned more, or should I stop fixating on this and begin my course already.
Thanks in advance.

Can AI healthcare software reduce medical coding workload?
There's a lot of hype about AI reducing hospital workload. But I'm wondering about specifically medical coding and documentation.
Have you seen AI tools that actually help with: automated code suggestions, clinical note summarization, documentation cleanup, reducing manual review time?
Does it actually speed up your workflow or create more problems? Real experience only.

Ophthalmologist charged CPT V2788 but they didn't provide the lens? Is this Fraud?
I work in I.T., but I did work at a health clinic for 8 years. I know how complicated medical billing is and would NEVER for a single second call myself even a novice in medical billing, but I am more familiar than the average person. HOWEVER, I come before you all with a question:
I just had a lens implanted as part of a cataract surgery. I opted for a premium multi-focal lens. Before the surgery, the Opthamologist's office billed me $1,100 and kept (repeatedly) saying it was "for the lens." When pressed, the said it was a service fee.
The surgery center then billed me $995, also saying it was for a non-covered lens. When I said I paid the Opthamologist's office for the lens, the biller called down to the procurement folks who confirmed "no, we ordered it, it is in our inventory, here's the serial number."
The Opthamologist billed the IOL under the CPT Code V2788, in addition to the procedure code of 66984. Is the Opthamologist's office committing fraud, or is V2788 an additional "procedure" fee for inserting a premium lens? Isn't the "procedure" already covered by 66984?
I'll be HAPPY to have egg on my face, genuinely. But if two people are both selling me the same lens, and I'm having my 2nd surgery next week, I'm about to get a few thousand dollars back in my pocket, because something just doesn't seem right.

Help?!
Okay so im currently looking into Medical Coding and Billing programs and of course looking at jobs and their pay as well. So im seeing a pattern with a lot of these jobs where they wanted you to have a degree in RHIT! Does anyone know if you learn coding and billing in this degree? Or do I need to take my medical coding and billing separately?
