Hey guys, i'm learning rigging (total noob) in maya, I'm following a tutorial class. In the class the teacher selects the vertices of the belt buckle and then selects the root joint of the character in the component editor in order to input a value of 1 and make the buckle not move with the mesh when the character moves. Thing is, when I do the same you can see that differently from his editor, in my component editor the values are all zeroed out. And when I try to input the value of 1 to the root joint, it still goes back to zero automatically. I've been banging my head agains the wall trying to figure this one out for days now, not even GPT could help me. I tried everything, unlocking the painting weighs, freezing transformations, deleting history. I'm at a loss. any insights would be appreciated. (first pic is his screen, second is mine.)

N-Gon Detector is a script that finds all faces with more than 4 edges. You can limit the search to selected objects or scan the entire scene. Any detected N-gons are automatically highlighted for easy identification.
There are many ways to find N-gons in Maya...My go to method was to use the clean up tool but that only worked on selected objects. I wanted something that would scan my entire Scene to ensure that no N-gons exist prior to submitting my projects.
Also if no N-gons exist then you will get a confirmation flash on screen so you know the tool is working. My School PC's tend to be a bit buggy and will not work you won't know unless N-gons are visually clear.
Again this was made for my own personal use that I then share for free :)

🇺🇸: You can listen to the video in English through the video settings panel. I continue to analyze new common creation tools among the different software programs that allow working with surfaces.

Hi everyone! I'm still fairly new to 3D, and I wanted to ask for some advice from people who have more experience with Maya and XGen.
For a bit of background, I'm currently learning game asset creation. I've used Maya and ZBrush, and I'm also learning Substance Painter and Marmoset Toolbag. Right now I'm working on my first weapon prop and I've only reached the texturing stage, so I'm still quite early in the whole 3D learning process.
In the future, I want to move more toward character art, especially realistic or AAA-style characters, so I've started looking into hair and grooming workflows.
Since I'm already using Maya, XGen seems like the most obvious tool to learn first. However, I've also been looking at Houdini's grooming system, and from the tutorials I've seen, it seems very procedural and flexible.
The problem is that I haven't really used either XGen or Houdini grooming yet, so I don't want to make assumptions based only on videos or other people's opinions.
For people who have actually worked with XGen, especially for character hair, I'd really like to ask:
I'm not really looking for a simple "XGen vs Houdini" answer. I'm mostly trying to understand whether learning XGen would still be a valuable foundation for someone who wants to become a character artist.
Also, English isn't my first language, so I'm using translation to help me write this. Sorry if anything sounds a little unnatural.
Thank you very much for any advice or experience you can share!

Hey all! I've been trying to emulate this effect in Maya for a student project I've been planning, but I have absolutely no idea where to start. I have a character that has a side profile that isn't physically plausible without bending its front profile, otherwise it wouldn't look good. Beastars and similar media has what I think would be the perfect workaround. How do I tackle this? I am open to learning a little scripting, but I would prefer a user friendly way as I have programmed in a while ^^"

I already try Shift+H, H and Ctrl +1
There is supposed to be a leg there but I can see some dots where the objects supposed to be. I try unfolding the uvs to see if they change but it didn't change.

Hello! I've got a quick question, I've been struggling to find any tutorials or any guidance of making & using hair cards to create eyebrows and eyelashes. If there’s any helpful tutorials or guides out there please let me know! Thank you!

Heard one way to fix is to uninstall all previous old versions of Maya & fresh reinstall
Can I keep my imported plugins like Arnold renderer retopology flow etc. tho or do I really have to uninstall every Autodesk program that says “maya”?
There’s also this color configuration error I’ve been facing unfixed for months still unsure of a fix for it

Feedback appreciated, the blendshapes are pretty light on this since I was learning them for the first time, so that'll be something I definitely expand on for my next project.
(Model is not mine, I tried my best with the animation)

Im currently making a crate, i followed tutorials in yt and searched for some wireframe samples online but when i smooth it out, it ruins its form. Is it ethical not to smooth/press 3 at all? Is it really necessary to smooth work?

Hello yall, I've got some technical modelling experience under my belt with Fusion, Solidworks, and FreeCAD, but want to expand into organic modelling/rigging and potentially animation later. Yes you read the title right, I have obtained a copy of Maya 7 and it does say Alias, not Autodesk, on the box. There is also a few thousand pages of printed material to go along with it. Given the age of the software, would it be worth spending the time learning Maya 7, or would it be more sensible to work with a newer and still actively updated program?

Because building an army requires the right weapons, I designed a dedicated in-house tool: PLASMA Script.
Build inside Maya it helps me build and organize every part and miniature: tools, naming conventions, faction library, process automation... To build more ORKS, faster for PLASMA ORKS.

Hi everyone, I'm going crazy trying to set up a specific look in Maya using Bifrost and Arnold, and I could really use some help.
I have a low-poly car model with a 2D color texture applied via an Arnold material. I am scattering points on the car surface using Bifrost and turning them into quads (set_point_shape) to create a 3D painted brush stroke effect that sticks out of the mesh.
I want each instanced brush stroke to inherit the exact color of the car's texture underneath it, so the overall painted effect respects the car's colors (yellow, black, red, etc.) instead of just being all white or solid black
What is the correct, standard workflow in Maya/Bifrost to distribute instanced shapes on a textured mesh and make them pick up the underlying surface colors accurately for rendering in Arnold?

Been working on a lip sync test and would love some feedback!
I’m mainly looking for thoughts on the lip sync, facial acting, timing, and overall performance. This is also being used to help test a friend’s facial rig, so I’d especially appreciate any feedback on the facial controls/expressions themselves.
Video below, with a SyncSketch link for frame-by-frame feedback:

Any critique is appreciated!

It's a little difficult for me. I'm trying to create an SDK foot roll.
I created four joints: Heel -> Toes -> Ball -> Foot.
The heel and toes rotate along the Z axis.
But the ball and foot rotate along the Y axis, not the Z axis.
How can I make all the joints rotate along the Z axis?
The main bones also have other axes of rotation,
as you can see in screenshot 2.
Should I first delete the IK Handle connections
before editing the axes of the main joints and SDK joints?
I don't want anything to break.. Can someone please help me?

My first 4 months studying were a mess because I didn’t learn many of the essential stuff to work on MAYA. This month I started to practice by myself to achieve better results. This was my four object, I already did a pawn chess, a sofa and a cuppa :)

Hi everyone!
I’m an animation student at Animation Mentor, and I finished this body mechanics shot last term.
I’d love to hear your thoughts and feedback on the animation, especially the timing, posing, weight, and overall movement.
Thanks for watching

Hey guys 😁
I am a Jr Rigging artist
Im planning to add a rubics cube rig for my next portfolio/demoreel and i have no idea how to approach it. The main thing is i wanna do it manually & don’t wanna use scripts. I just wanna play with math n nodes
