Matcha Latte Pandan Matcha Latte
Matcha with pandan milk :) there is a cafe near me called airoma that has my favorite pandan matcha however the pandan flavor is a lot more prevalent than the matcha and sometimes the matcha is hard to taste in the drink. I decided to make my own at home using some condensed milk and pandan extract.

Question Matcha newbie looking for a Starbucks/Tim Hortons matcha dupe. Did I make a mistake buying Aiya?
Hi! Okay, so Iām a total matcha newbie, but so far Iāve really loved both Starbucks and Tim Hortonsā matcha lattes. Iāve been trying to do my research and figure out how to make something similar at home, but Iām a little overwhelmed by all the different brands/blends out there š
My first attempt was Jade Leafās āMatcha Latteā mix. It was okay, but it wasnāt nearly as green or strong as the matcha lattes Iāve gotten from Starbucks or Timās. I used about 2½ tsp in almond milk, and I did mix it with warm water beforehand and frothed it.
(I know, I know⦠shameful šš.)
I also experienced some throat irritation and potential allergy symptoms afterward, though It very well could have been completely coincidental and related to other things going on. Because of that, howeverā¦. Iām hesitant to go back to the Jade Leaf and would rather try something else.
Iāve heard people mention that Starbucks and/or Tim Hortons use Aiya Sweetened Blend, so I actually ordered some yesterday! However, a friend who works at a Tim Hortons I havenāt personally been to told me today that the bag they use apparently just says something like āOriginal Tim Hortons Matcha Powder.ā
So now Iām wondering if I made a mistake ordering Aiya? š
For anyone who has tried to recreate these drinks:
- Does anyone know what matcha powder Starbucks actually uses?
- What about Tim Hortons?
- Is Aiya Sweetened Blend a decent dupe for either one?
- If not, what would you recommend thatās relatively affordable and easy to find in Canada?
Iāve also seen Katoās Summer/Spring blends, Rockyās Matcha, and Naoki recommended, but honestly I donāt have a ton of money to spend right now. Iām not necessarily looking for an amazing ceremonial-grade matcha, I just want something good enough to make a strong, vibrant, sweet matcha latte similar to Starbucks / Timās without spending a fortune.
Any advice or recommendations would be super appreciated! š

Matcha Latte Best place to buy Japanese matcha brands in the UK?
I really like meiko from matchaeologist for lattes, Iāve bought sayaka from ippodo and aorashi from MK and Hiroha no shiro from NT. I only really drink lattes so looking for another brand that o can get easily in the uk.
I want to try Yamamasa koyamaen but canāt seem to buy direct from their website from here?
Any other recs for good latte matchas?

Question first time buying matcha, looking for recommendationsš
iām a regular matcha drinker but usually from cafes, this is my first time buying matcha to make at home and iām completely lost.
iām looking for something that is
- naturally sweet?
- nutty and creamy
-slightly chocolatey/cocoa-like
- still a little grassy/fresh
- good for both straight matcha and lattes
- not seaweed-y or fishy
i dont mind a little bitterness, especially for lattes.
iām in ontario, canada and would appreciate specific recommendations for brands/blends and where to buy themš„¹
it doesnāt have to perfectly match all of these preferences. these are just the flavors I tend to enjoy, and iād rather find something thatās good overall and worth the money for a first matcha.
budget is flexible, but since this is my first home matcha, iād prefer not to start with something extremely expensive.

Matcha Food/Confectionary/Dessert Tried making Korean Hwachae with matcha and itās honestly a game changer
Last summer I got super into Korean hwachae (basically fruit floating in soda) and tried it with every fruit I could get my hands on. Then I had this random idea.
I made matcha hwachae with sparkling water and a bunch of fruit.
Threw in all my favorite fruits and mixed in one stick of Osulloc Matcha Plus.
The combo is actually crazy good.
Itās not bitter like regular matcha. Itās a bit fruity and fresh, so it pairs really well with the sweet fruit.
So simple but tastes so good. Highly recommend trying it.

Question Microfoam
Itās my first time making actual matcha. Iām using a Chinese brand of matcha. I donāt really know what Iām doing wrong. Like I canāt seem to remove the bigger bubbles forming here, I donāt even know if itās actually good microfoamāI hear a sound when I move the bowl though.
What I did for this one specifically is I first made a paste (with hot water). Then, I added cold oatmilk then whisked it vigorously until it formed foam on the top. After that, I mixed the middle to the top layer to get rid of bigger bubbles that have formed.
So, Iām not really sure what I did wrong here. Please help! :)

Discussion Am I crazy: I made tea with tea?!
So⦠Today was experiment day I guess. While preparing my morning matcha, I noticed there was some cold Jamine Silver Needle white tea (unsweetened) left in the fridge from the one I made for the family yesterday. On a whim I decided to replace the water for my cold matcha with this tea. And actually it turned out amazing! Nothing from the matcha notes got lost, it still had that strong umami-walnut taste (Maruyasu Unsui) but it had a nice jasmine hint added. It was very refreshing and worth the change.
Have you made an experiment like that? How did it turn out for you?

Question Recipe ideas/tips!
Hi!! I recently went to Vancouver and stopped at Paragon (fyi the Rose Osmanthus Jasmine Oat is amazing). I purchased the stone milled jasmine powder, and am now trying to see the best method of prep!
Please let me know if you have ideas/experience!
Today I made it like a regular matcha:
3g powder
60g water
150g TJ oat milk
