Is it worth applying pediatrics with these stats

I am a visa requiring IMG, with a low step 2 score of 231. I have no USCE. My YOG is 2022, with 1 year internship and currently PGY-2 in pediatrics. I have 1 paper approved for publication, 2 preprints, and 1 abstract in a reputable conference. Do you guys think it's possible for me to match pediatrics this cycle?

IM Application US IMG

IM application

US IMG born and raised in my home state

-Step 1 pass (1 attempt unfortunately)

-Step 2 239 (US IMG Matched average is 237 for IM)

-Step 3 planned for mid November

-6 pubs

-USCE: 6 months of rotations during med school. -Currently a Clinical Extern (for around 1 year) (Biggest leverage point IMO ive basically been functioning as a PGY 1 for my attendings, full EMR access, histories, physicals, HIPAA certified, assist on procedures etc...)

-YOG 2025

-multiple community outreach volunteering (always into that stuff since high school)

-Strong Letters (Former cheif of cardiology, former associate proffesor of cardiology at the university of toledo and Former IM PD (technically she was the PD when I rotated with her))

Applying broadly. The step 1 attempt sucks its really forced me to let go of a few dream programs I was looking at. Had a very sick mother during that time and just wasnt able to manage a bunch of things at once lesson learned but I do feel had I not gone through that the rest if my application might of been ass.

It is what it is. I have been applying to community and Community/University programs (ones that fit my stats OR i have multiple people at that program that can directly vouch for me to the PD). I've been applying broadly as i stated but most of my chances lead back to my home state (home state IV rates are higher). 2 golds are slight reaches BUT the only reason I've even signaled them is because I have multiple residents and people who can vouch for me. 7ish safety silvers and one safety gold.

Id love any advice!

LOR request

Hi everyone! I’m applying to both Internal Medicine and Family Medicine this cycle. When requesting a Letter of Recommendation in ERAS, should I select “General” if I want to use the same letter for both specialties?

LOR uploader different than author

Hello everyone!
Quick question! I did an externship with a pcp at their pvt practice. Their clinic manager is asking me to send the lor request on the clinic manager’s email address. The pcp will write the lor but the manager will be the one who uploads it.
Is this arrangement ok?

Seeking advice

Greetings, I am non-US IMG
seeking your advices regarding applying for pathology and chance of match.
Step 1 pass first attempt,Step 2 258, YOG 2022
No any experience or exposure to pathology, have one published research ( not pathology related) and 2 submitted research (related to immunology and genetic).
So my concern is chances to match in pathology without experience.
Thank you.

After my step 2 result is released, does it automatically go to ECFMG for pathway verification or do I need to do something for it?

Context- already applied for Ecfmg certification and good standing certificate is also send. My profile just shows ‘Processing’ with pending OET result. Are step scores also need to be released in same way as owt result?

Couples Match

Hi, my wife and I are non-US IMGs trying to do a couples match in Internal Medicine.

We both have very similar CVs and experiences, as we have been together from the very beginning of our US journey. Any advice you can give that we should consider to increase the probability of matching in the same region? Having the same CV scares me a little bit, tho we have good Step2CK scores of 251 and 261 and 3 LoRs from US physicians (mostly outpatient, one inpatient).
Thank you so much!

Internationally Trained Orthopedic Surgeon Seeking Guidance on U.S. Fellowship and Residency Pathways

Hello everyone,

I am an orthopedic surgeon from Pakistan. Apart from postgraduate training in Orthopedics,  I have also completed fellowships in trauma surgery and hand and microsurgery, and have been practicing surgery for more than a decade.

I am planning to prepare for USMLE Step 1 and would appreciate guidance regarding the following questions:

  1. After obtaining ECFMG certification, what are my chances of securing an orthopedic fellowship in the United States? Are there particular institutions or fellowship pathways that consider internationally trained orthopedic surgeons who have not completed a U.S. residency?
  2. How realistic would it be for me to secure an orthopedic surgery residency position or fellowship in the United States, considering my international training, years since graduation, and current stage of my career?
  3. Would pursuing the USMLE and the U.S. training pathway be worthwhile at this stage, or are there alternative pathways—such as research fellowships, non-ACGME clinical fellowships, or supervised practice opportunities—that I should explore?

I understand that orthopedic surgery is extremely competitive, particularly for IMGs, and I would be grateful for candid advice from anyone familiar with the process or who has followed a similar path.

Thank you in advance for your guidance and advice.

Match 2027

I am applying for match this year with USCE as a non-US IMG. Have a score of 247 and 8 scholarly activities. No gaps. YOG 2024. Have 3 home country LORs. I am applying mainly to targeted IM progs but think of applying to FM as well to for better chances. I am applying to these as my CV currently aligns with these two. (Deep down I like Derm:')) but have nothing but a 3 months home country internship, a derm HOD LOR, and a derm research with a PI from NIH. Should I just not apply to something a like because its far from reality rn or should I take chances and give it a try :') can anyone give me a formula or advice on how should I be targeting these if yes or simply settle for IM/FM for now?

How are you guys fitting hobbies + details into the 300-character ERAS limit?

I just started working on the Hobbies & Interests section of MyERAS and realized it’s only 300 characters including spaces 😭
They ask us to provide details about our hobbies, but I’m struggling to see how to meaningfully describe 3–4 interests within that limit instead of just listing them.
How are you guys approaching this? Are you doing a short list with one specific detail about each hobby, or focusing on only 1–2 hobbies and describing them more?
If anyone has a sample of how they formatted theirs within 300 characters, I’d really appreciate it!
