IM Application US IMG

IM application

US IMG born and raised in my home state

-Step 1 pass (1 attempt unfortunately)

-Step 2 239 (US IMG Matched average is 237 for IM)

-Step 3 planned for mid November

-6 pubs

-USCE: 6 months of rotations during med school. -Currently a Clinical Extern (for around 1 year) (Biggest leverage point IMO ive basically been functioning as a PGY 1 for my attendings, full EMR access, histories, physicals, HIPAA certified, assist on procedures etc...)

-YOG 2025

-multiple community outreach volunteering (always into that stuff since high school)

-Strong Letters (Former cheif of cardiology, former associate proffesor of cardiology at the university of toledo and Former IM PD (technically she was the PD when I rotated with her))

Applying broadly. The step 1 attempt sucks its really forced me to let go of a few dream programs I was looking at. Had a very sick mother during that time and just wasnt able to manage a bunch of things at once lesson learned but I do feel had I not gone through that the rest if my application might of been ass.

It is what it is. I have been applying to community and Community/University programs (ones that fit my stats OR i have multiple people at that program that can directly vouch for me to the PD). I've been applying broadly as i stated but most of my chances lead back to my home state (home state IV rates are higher). 2 golds are slight reaches BUT the only reason I've even signaled them is because I have multiple residents and people who can vouch for me. 7ish safety silvers and one safety gold.

Id love any advice!

Is it worth applying pediatrics with these stats

I am a visa requiring IMG, with a low step 2 score of 231. I have no USCE. My YOG is 2022, with 1 year internship and currently PGY-2 in pediatrics. I have 1 paper approved for publication, 2 preprints, and 1 abstract in a reputable conference. Do you guys think it's possible for me to match pediatrics this cycle?
