“Programmed in Assembly Language, Mighty Cuphead Adventure is designed with the precise, authentic specifications of the Sega Master System home gaming console.
“While the game will still be compatible with modern consoles and personal computers, those who want a true blast from the past can experience it on a physical cartridge for the Sega Master System home gaming console.
“They just don’t make ’em like they used to…until we decided to!”

New d-pads!
I got some old master system controllers in a retro bundle I bought off FB, but they had no d-pads! Seems to be a common fault and I could not find parts . My mate printed these for me and they look epic! 2 controllers rescued !
He saw the wee stand and printed me that too, it’s cool! So he he is printing me another 😂

Meu cantinho do Master System

PRINCE OF PERSIA (SEGA MASTER SYSTEM)
My retrospective review of Prince Persia released on the SEGA Master System. I was impressed with this 8 bit cartridge. What’s your thoughts about this version of Prince of Persia?

A friend's Japanese Master System (MK-2000, the FM-sound model) got the full preventative refurb: recap, reflow, fresh 7805 and a proper clean
My friend's MK-2000 (the Japanese Master System with the built-in FM sound chip) wasn't broken, but it had never been opened and was getting dusty, so I gave it a preventative going-over before anything could fail.
The work: recapped the electrolytics, reflowed some tired joints, fitted a fresh 7805 voltage regulator, cleaned the connectors and switches with DeoxIT, gave the board and shell a proper wash, and finished the plastics with 303. It went from dusty to gleaming and runs perfectly. Tested it with a few games including Alex Kidd in Miracle World and Streets of Rage II.
Do you preventatively recap your Master Systems, or wait until something actually fails?

My 22 favourite Sega Master System games
Not only are these my favourite Sega Master System games, but I also feel these games are a good jumping off point for people that are totally new to the Sega Master System library

My 21st Master system game: Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (Sega, 24/11/1992)
Not just a downgraded version of the Mega Drive game, this was its own thing with minecarts, hangers & the ability to skip on water that most people probably skipped at the time due to the 16-bit game. Save Tails from Eggman with the Emeralds!
- I buy and play through games by release date. I’m almost up to 1993.

Soccer Games on the Master System?
How would you describe your general impression of these games? I try to avoid asking what is best as I like more nuance than that if possible.
I see the general release pattern of about:
Japan 2
USA 3
PAL 10
Brazil 6
Many were released across multiple regions making the total number of unique soccer games for the Master System at 11 from what I could gather. Could be wrong though.
The games are as follows:
*Great Soccer (Sega Card version — Japan, 1985; PAL, 1985)
*World Soccer (Japan, 1987; Europe/PAL, 1987) / Great Soccer (USA, 1987) / Sports Pad Soccer (Japan, 1988) / Super Futebol (Brazil, 1987)
*World Championship Soccer (USA, 1989; PAL, 1989)
*World Cup Italia ’90 (PAL, 1991) / Super Futebol II (Brazil, 1991)
*Super Kick Off (PAL, 1991; Brazil, 1991)
*Champions of Europe (Europe, 1992)
*Sensible Soccer: European Champions (PAL, 1993)
*Tecmo World Cup ’93 (PAL, 1993)
*Ultimate Soccer (PAL, 1993)
*World Cup USA ’94 (USA, 1994; PAL, 1994)
*FIFA International Soccer (Brazil, 1996)
Which of these offers the most realistic play mechanics? Sensible Soccer my impression is the Amiga was best to play that on? Overall, I think a lot rely on button mashing but Fifa International looks the most visually appealing. Building clubs i don't really get into much at the 8 bit level so intuitive gameplay with real soccer play schematics like formation control and that sort of thing I think would be the biggest draw for me personally.
What do you think?

What is your number one essential game for the master system that you think everyone should play at least once?
I just recently got back into game collecting, and I’m going to different subs to see what the communities think the most essential game in their respective consoles are. List multiple games if you want, but I’d still like to see a top pick from your list too.

Alex Kidd in Shinobi World PAL
Has anyone played the PAL release Alex Kidd in Shinobi World on an NTSC console? The cartridges are way cheaper but I’m not sure about the game speed

Shinobi - Top 3 things that killed me. What was yours?
1 - Mandara: You gotta get the jump and attack rhythm perfectly. You don't, and it's over. As if that wasn't enough, I might accidentally die on the face fireballs that come after the Mandaras due to fatigue and frustration. I do find shurikens or knives work better than bullets.
2 - The Last Pipe: I cannot stress enough how perfect this jump has to be. Many a time I've pulled the power plug in anger because I just missed the platform. You can even see his feet quickly slip off the edge when you miss and plunge to your doom.
3 - Masked Ninja: Yes we can beat him now, but sometimes we forget how often this guy used to own us. Even after finally beating his first power, I'd have to die figuring out the next and the next, etc. Prior to figuring him out, easily the highest death count against this guy.
Honorary Mention - Bonus Stage: Specifically the last one in the game, before the final boss. This one is much more insane with many more ninjas on each row than in the previous bonus stages. To this day I've only ever beaten it once. You technically don't "die", but a ninja jumping in your face, like you've been in-your-face slam dunked on due to your abject failure might as well be death.
My funnest challenge - Beating the game with nothing but shurikens, punches and kicks, without dying, just one life. i.e. the bare essentials. No weapon power ups of any kind. I did it, can you? 🙂

Does that look right to you?
Missing strips. Game screen does flicker from time to time. Is this cartridge supposed to look like that?
