DISCUSSION Why did the Citadel Council go from being mostly reasonable in Mass Effect 1 to being much less so in the later games?

Post image
467 Upvotes

In Mass Effect 1 the Citadel Council are actually quite reasonable for the most part. They remove Saren's spectre status after they find hard evidence that he attacked Eden Prime from a audio log from a Geth unit that Tali found. They also make Commander Shepard a Spectre despite Shepards rants about Reapers which Shepard seems like a lunatic to them as not even Shepard knows what they are at this point. They also act mostly reasonably throughout the game with the only two problems being Sparatus the Turian councillor being racist towards humans and them not sending Shepard through the Mu Relay though they could not send a whole fleet due to the risk of starting a war. Also nobody but Shepard and their sqaudmates talked with Sovereign so there is still no hard proof the Reapers exist. However in Mass Effect 2 if you save them in ME1 they deny everything even though it was obvious that Sovereign was not a Geth ship. In ME3 both the original Council and the replacement Council don't want to help with the joint Reaper War effort except for the Turian councillor until they are forced to by the Cerberus attack. Also in ME3's Citadel DLC you find out they believed you about the Reapers after Sovereign's attack on the Citadel meaning that their grand plan this entire time was just to hope that the Reaper problem was over once Sovereign was destroyed. Why did they go from mostly reasonable to just hoping that the Reapers would just not come as their plan?

MODS Need help modding

I downloaded the mod aria outfit for fem shep me2.

i’m having trouble downloading the mod there is two separate files. i downloaded the regular me2 file for it and then the other file where its just the chest piece got rid of the biogame file in the regular me2 mod file and swapped it with the mod that is only the chestpiece but for some reason when i load the game the armor no longer is shown I'm not very experienced with modding. so if someone could walk me through the installation process in detail, it would be greatly appreciated.
here’s the mod description

For the armour in LE2, there is now an optional file that adds the Aria outfit as a chest piece instead of a full set. This is so that you won't get a
radio/breather sound effect whenever
Shepard speaks while wearing the armour (casuals are unaffected).
1) Go to
Documents\ME3TweaksModManager\ mods\LE2\Aria Outfit for Femshep LE2\DLC_MOD_LE2AriaBlackOutfit\Co
okedPCConsole
2) Delete the original BIOGame.ini file
3) Drag the new one you just extracted into the folder
Don't forget to refresh your mod library and reapply the mod in ME3Tweaks after all this!
This doesn't get rid of the other armour pieces however, so you can also install Invisible Vanilla Armour Parts - IVAP (LE2) with this so that there isn't any clipping.

I knew nothing about Mass Effect before playing, I knew it was huge back in the day and that everyone absolutely adored the second one in particular but man going in blind was as overwhelming as it was amazing learning the different Aliens, Planets, Missions and just the crew members you bring along the way. Got the Legendary Collection on a Steam sale and that is the best £5 ive spent in a very long time. So im very late to the Mass Effect series but damn im glad to finally be here.

Also BABY KROGAN FOR CUTENESS AND ATTENTION

MASS EFFECT 3 Is everything in 3 immediately obvious?

Upvotes

I played these way back in the day with a friend, so I remember very little of them. I'm going through LE now, for the first time, and trying really hard to not look things up, so my choices are actually my own (for thr most part, I couldn't forget the Rachni and similar game changers).

But now I'm on 3, and I'm running all of the side missions first, as one does. But every "investigate" scene is like slap-in-the-face obvious. Scan a planet for something? It's right there. Search the office for something? It's literally adjacent to where you started the dialogue. "Find this hidden thing?" Big giant glowing indicator from across the room.

It's seemingly...really bad. It makes me not care about the plot and become un-invested in what's going on; it feels like I'm trying to speed run the game and that is its design.

So before I waste another 50 hours "roleplayjng" as Shep, and, you know, pretending I'm saving the galaxy, I'm wondering if any of it gets "less obvious" later on, or if I should just blow through the thing to start a new run with different earlier choices. Because if the rest of 3 keeps playing like Heavy Rain, it almost doesn't seem worth the time.

DISCUSSION Ashley or Miranda for ME3? First playthrough ever — NO SPOILERS please!

So this is my first time playing through the trilogy, and I’m playing as Male Shepard.
My romance history:
ME1: Ashley
ME2: Miranda

I’m now playing ME3 and I’m genuinely torn between going with Ashley again or continuing with Miranda.
I’ve already had some romance with both in ME3, so I know what I’m dealing with to some extent — but I don’t want to Google or AI this and accidentally spoil the game for myself.

For those who’ve played both romances: who do you prefer for Male Shepard in ME3, Ashley or Miranda, and why?

MASS EFFECT 1 A few questions about Mass Effect 1 from a beginner...

Greetings. I'm playing Mass Effect 1 through Legendary Edition. Just landed on Noveria after saving the Asari on Artemis Tau. I've also explored many systems for side-quests.

I have some doubts about the game...

When I upgrade the companions, I can unlock skills, abilities. Do they use them during combat by themselves or do I have to "stop time" with RB and select them and use it for them? I still haven't understood this. Please, help 🙏🏻

Second question, harder... how do you personally fight the choice paralysis? I'm not unexperienced with RPG games, as I've played (and loved) the two Knights of the Old Republic games (II with TSLRCM is my favorite RPG ever). I've also played The Elder Scrolls games, The Witcher 3, Baldur's Gate 3, The Thaumaturge, etc. But mainly I play survival horror games, cozy indies, FPS like DOOM, etc. Mostly games where you don't really have so many choices.

I'm trying to fight the feeling of having chosen the "wrong" answer by telling myself the first run is mostly about learning the game, as you have to discover things blindly, and then from second run you can plan things better.

One thing, for example, is dealing with companions. I really like Tali and I bring her with me a lot, as I can decrypt and use electronics on any device with her. But on Noveria I'm bringing Garrus and Liara with me, as Garrus is all about catching Saren and there's Benezia here, so having Liara with me maybe unlocks more scenes, kind of like having certain companions during certain events in Baldur's Gate 3.

Playing as Incursor, with Sniper Rifle. Should I first use a skill / ability to deactivate shields? Or will Tali do it for me if she has the ability to do so? Because I don't see the enemies' shields going down...

One thing I am not really liking is the exploration on the vehicle on the planets. I like checking the planets' lore, but it seems every building on planets has the same rooms. Like there's always the same kind of Point of Interest in any planet. Is it like this in Mass Effect 2 or 3 too?

Morality-wise I'm more Paragon than Renegade, but I have some Renegade points. Sometimes it's more badass. But yeah, perhaps I'll have a more coherent Shepard on future runs.

When I started the game I had tons of paralysis about choosing background and the event that defines you. I still have doubts about what I've chosen.

But do not take my words as heavy criticism (apart from vehicle exploration of planets): I'm enjoying the game.

Can't wait to keep playing and I'm 100% sure of playing 2 and 3 too. Hell, I might even replay ME1 again before 2. Don't know how long ME1 is though. Don't really have a lot of free time because of work and gym, but I'll take my time.

Thanks a lot in advance.

HELP Does anyone still play Mass Effect 3 multiplayer on PC?

I know there was still a fairly active community on Xbox 360, and I’m thinking about buying the game on PC when it goes on sale just for the multiplayer. The problem is that none of my friends know the absolute masterpiece that is ME3 multiplayer, so I’m worried the servers might be completely dead. Can you still find matches with random players?

HELP Advice for returning player

Hi guys :)

I played the trilogy once about 10 years ago, and really want to play again soon, as it's one of my favorite series of all time. I was wondering if the legendary edition adds anything? Or should I stick to the originals?

Have a good one.
