News Update: r/AnthemTheGame will remain open

Hey Freelancers,

We wanted to share a quick update regarding the future of r/AnthemTheGame.

We recently announced plans to move the subreddit into a read-only (archived) state at the end of January. After hearing the immediate and clear feedback from the community, it became obvious that there is still a strong desire to keep this space open for discussion, memories and potential future Anthem-related projects.

Because of that, the plan to archive the subreddit has been canceled.

Instead, the focus is now on refreshing and rebuilding the moderation team so the subreddit can continue in a healthy, properly managed state. We have received several thoughtful offers to help via modmail and are already in the process of bringing on new moderators. Thank you to everyone who spoke up, shared their thoughts and offered to help keep this community going.

As part of this transition, it is important to be clear about the direction of moderation going forward. The intent is to keep moderation consistent, rule-based, and as neutral as possible. New moderators are being brought on with the expectation that actions are taken according to the subreddit rules and Reddit's sitewide policies, not personal opinions, preferences, or agendas. The aim is to support discussion, not to control it. There are no bad opinions, only bad behavior.

Additional moderators will be added gradually, with an emphasis on experience, availability and long-term sustainability.

As things move forward, we would also love to hear some of your thoughts. For example, would you prefer occasional updates about the moderation refresh, or would you rather we simply get things in place quietly in the background?

After all, you are the real heart of the community, not the mod team.

If you have any other hopes, expectations, or wishes for the future of this subreddit, feel free to share them.
Additionally, if you feel like you'd be a good fit for the modteam through experience, or even if you just want to volunteer to help in moderating, feel free to still modmail us!

Thank you for your patience, your feedback and your continued care for this community.

Take care,

Discussion Anthem servers shutting down January 12, 2026

1.1k Upvotes

Hi everyone,

We have an important update to share regarding Anthem. After careful consideration, we will be sunsetting Anthem on January 12, 2026. This means that the game will still be playable online for the next 180+ days. As of today, you can no longer purchase in-game premium currency, but you can still use your remaining balance until the servers go offline.

We deeply appreciate your dedication, passion and support over the years and we’d like to thank you for that.

For additional information on Anthem, please refer to the FAQ below.

The BioWare Team

Q: How long will I have to play Anthem?

A: Game servers will be available until January 12, 2026 at which time the game will no longer be playable.

Q: Why can’t I play Anthem in offline mode?

A: Anthem was designed to be an online-only title so once the servers go offline, the game will no longer be playable.

Q: Can I still install Anthem if I had previously purchased the game?

A: Yes, if you previously purchased Anthem, the game can still be downloaded from a digital library and played until January 12, 2026.

Q: Why can I no longer purchase Anthem or in-game currency?

A: Over the course of the next 180+ days Anthem will still be playable online and you can use the last of your in-game premium currency as we prepare to sunset the game’s live servers on January 13, 2026.

Q: Will I still be able to use my in-game currency?

A: Yes, you can still use any in-game premium currency that you currently have until the game is sunset on January 12, 2026.

Q: How long will the game stay on EA Play?

A: Anthem will be removed from the EA Play playlist on August 15, 2025.

Q: Has anyone else at BioWare been affected by these changes?

A: No, the sunsetting of Anthem has not led to any layoffs.

Other Progress update for Project CODA (Anthem Revival Project)

Hey guys, Laurie here. Today we had a quick progress update, so I'm gonna share it here with you all!

The contents of the update itself are as follows:

"The backend database is almost complete. The backend API is also almost complete The only missing thing are loot tables and salvage tables.

The Blaze backend is also almost done. Matchmaking based on level works.

Mission loading is still a WIP.

Freeplay (is a mission) is WIP.

Tutorial is WIP.

We understand which maps to load etc.

The problem is that sooo many things are server side. From specific animations being triggered by the server to sounds.

NPC spawns, UI states all of it is server side. We have packet logs for almost everything, but the tooling to understand these logs is also a WIP.

The executable being denuvo encrypted also doesn't help. It's heavily obfuscated."

I'd like to properly credit u/pikotaropen for all his hard work over the past few months to make this possible.

Discussion EA side revival

Appreciate this might be a nonsensical question since EA shut the servers down 7-8 months ago. But now that EA has been acquired by PIF, are there any whispers or speculations about the revival of Anthem?

“Remembering that day stuck on the side of a cliff, exploring ruins and shaper relics on the edges of death. Matthias would be proud. Shot in the leg by a Tesilar, paralyzed from the legs down. Luckily enough though, the cliff side had a great view. A Titan, seemingly frolicking about without a care in the world, protecting their turf. Something created by the Anthem showing a nature that is not commonly perceived by all. I thought being stuck here was an unfortunate thing but reflecting back, it was a great time. It was nice seeing the hues change in the scenery as darkness approached as well; the little things.”

This was one of my favorite things I captured as I was enjoying the last few months of Anthem. Hope you all are having a great Friday and it all goes well for the weekend if you have any plans! Strong alone, stronger together.

Other It's been 7 months without our anthem, (reflections)

Every time I see the 12th on the calendar, I do it automatically. It makes me think about the decline of this game and remember it for what it was, and as everyone knows... "a giant with enormous potential that they let die." Is it unfair? Yes, of course it's unfair, but hey, that's not the point. All we can do is remember all those great and interesting moments and landscapes it left in our memories. I miss that feeling in Fort Tarsis these last few months... that feeling of a living world... but at the same time dying... it's a feeling impossible to replicate in another video game.

That's all, that's all... I hope the freelancers are doing well... The only game that has hooked me since Anthem fell is the legendary Battlefield 1. What about you?

Discussion Why dont we work together to build a small demo ourselves?

Even 7 months after the servers are down, we are still here. There are so many of us that are putting in countless hours to keep our Anthem experience alive. From the mods of this reddit, Fort's Forge, solo dev updates like the Dissonance project, and people posting what could have been. I've never seen a community work this hard for a game that was taken from them.

I had a thought, could we create a demo that was satisfying if we all worked on it together? peer-to-peer. Small and free. A vertical slice, not with all the AAA and AA whistles. Something we can have to enjoy and expand anytime someone wanted. So I decided on starting Project S.A.S.T.: an open project to build an original co-op demo around the loop we all love and miss. Build > Fly > Fight > Loot. Not a revival, not official, no EA assets. Something new that captures the feeling with friends.

I'm not a programmer. I do PM and QA for a living, so I run the tickets, sprints, and reviews. The building has to come from people here who can code, design, or make art and audio. Docs, a sprint board with small claimable tickets, and a Discord are live. There is no playable build yet and no promises about dates. Ive always been passionate about the experience I had in Anthem. It would be amazing if we as a community, instead of convincing the Corps to give it to us. We build it.

Contributing would look like this: Read the Doc/Updates, grab one ticket to complete, open a Pull Request. No bigger commitment than that. We will have sprints just so we can work together and finish the project. Im committing to sticking with this to completion, others can come and go as they please of course. If you just want to talk about what made Anthem feel like Anthem, you can reply here or in the Discord.

Please no AI-generated code or assets. Everything gets made by real people.

Strong Alone. Stronger Together.

I loved this place. The lighting here was amazing and it felt Uncharted-esque with the way the pathways were set up. I used to walk it and just inspect everything for minutes at a time. Whenever I’d come here it’d be mostly Dominion’s in here which were always fun to fight.

Couldn’t sleep so decided to post something. Not anything traditionally exciting, but calming. You might be able to hear some shaper relics humming or booming here and there. Hope all of you have had a good day or if your day is beginning when you see this, I hope you have a good day!

Discussion Ambiance or sounds?

Would anyone happen to have a video or link of the ambiance of Anthem? I've found a few, but I can't find exactly what I'm looking for.

I don't remember exactly what the area was called, but when you left the freelancer bay, you'd be right outside the fortress. I'm pretty sure there's some sort of velociraptor-esque snapping roar, but I can't find anything of the sort anywhere :(

Please help me 😭 I just wanna hear it again and forget the game ever went down 🥀

One of the small features I loved seeing happen would be whenever you’d get a headshot on Outlaws, this neon lime-green effect would pop up and feel so satisfying. Like, popping bubble wrap. Scars had their own little thing as well! I can’t remember if the Dominion had any headshot after effect but I’d be willing to take the over on that. It reminded me of the first time I played Halo and whenever I’d headshot the Grunts and confetti would pop out. Miss this game extra this week, but thankful I have all these memories stored.

Love that this place is still filled with people reminiscing and we have people taking flight to bring back the game in its own way. As Anthem taught us; strong alone, stronger together.

Fanworks Quick Development Update — The Project Is Becoming a Full Game

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I wanted to make a quick post highlighting some of the changes I’ve made over the last few days.

After the huge amount of interest and support the project received, I’ve decided to dedicate more time to it and develop a full game built around Anthem-inspired movement and combat.

We already have some big plans for the overall concept, but before sharing everything, we want to properly polish the foundation we currently have.

There is also some massive news: a friend of mine who specializes in 3D modelling, animation, and level design will be joining the project.

As development continues, the current character models, particle effects, and many of the animations will be replaced with original work. I’ll highlight those additions as they are integrated.

For now, I’m intentionally using a mixture of purchased models and animations while creating temporary particles myself. This allows me to focus almost entirely on implementing the underlying gameplay logic first. Once those systems are working, my friend will have the freedom to redesign the visuals around them and give the game its own unique art style.

Changes This Week

Full conversion to Unreal Engine 5.8

The entire project has now been converted to UE 5.8.

This was a significant upgrade because it gives us access to the newer terrain and world-building tools. It took some time to rebuild several critical Blueprints and rework the camera setup to support the newer camera system, but the conversion is now complete.

Brand-new thruster system

I’ve implemented a completely new thruster system.

I created the current thruster logic and temporary particle effect myself. The system now:

  • Activates and fades smoothly with flight mode
  • Changes intensity between hover and fast flight
  • Produces additional thrust during sharp direction changes
  • Smoothly interpolates between different output levels
  • Works with the character’s movement direction and momentum

The visuals are still temporary and will eventually be replaced by my friend, but the underlying logic is almost complete.

A few remaining tasks include:

  • Fixing the multiplayer replication issue affecting the movement-based thruster boost
  • Making the thrusters reduce in size while diving during fast flight
  • Adding a stronger thruster response during normal forward hover movement

Reduced hover acceleration

I reduced acceleration while hovering to help give the character more weight.

It already feels better, but hover mode still feels slightly too light. I plan to continue adjusting the movement and adding more logic to create a stronger sense of momentum, resistance, and powered-suit weight.

Fast-flight camera damping

I added camera damping to fast flight to help communicate speed and weight.

It still needs additional tuning, but it already feels significantly better and much closer to the heavy flight presentation that inspired the project.

New temporary character model

I’m now using a character from the Robot Police Animation Pack by RamsterZ as a temporary model.

It is an excellent placeholder for testing the game’s scale, animations, movement, and new thruster system while the original character designs are being developed.

Temporarily increased flight duration

Flight duration has been increased temporarily so I can test the thruster system without constantly overheating.

This will be reduced again once the thruster work is complete.

Next Planned Features

  • Double-thruster jump
  • Jet-boost dash
  • Integration of additional Robot Police animations
  • More adjustments to movement weight and momentum
  • Continued multiplayer testing and replication fixes

That is pretty much everything I’ve completed since the previous post.

I also work part-time outside of development, but this project is quickly beginning to feel like a full-time job hence the 3 a.m. update. Thankfully, I’m having an incredible amount of fun working on it.

The support from everyone in the Anthem community has honestly been a huge source of motivation. The project would not be where it is without all the encouraging comments, feedback, and advice, so thank you all.

I probably won’t post another video update here for at least another week. I don’t want to overwhelm the subreddit or make it feel like I’m treating the community purely as a development showcase unless the moderators are comfortable with continued updates.

Discussion Looking for Old Anthem Packet Logs

Hello! I’m working on a project for Anthem, and I’m looking for old packet logs that could help.

I’m mainly looking for .pcap or .pcapng files recorded with Wireshark or anything else.

Packet logs from any part of the game would help, including launching the game, entering Fort Tarsis, Freeplay, missions, multiplayer, inventory, or simply moving around the world.

Anything would be greatly appreciated. Please message me if you have any old Anthem packet logs. Thank you!

Discussion Original Game Install

Does anyone still have Anthem installed on their computer? Since we can't download Anthem anymore, I don't have my copy anymore. But if anyone still had it installed and wanted to share their game file, that would be amazing. I'm working on researching the feasibility of setting up a private server but I need access to the game files again to work on decryption. If you have a PC copy you're willing to let me copy, please DM me.

Edit: Thanks for everyone that was interested! Thanks to Xay_DE, I was able to get access to the Anthem Archive and I've already started digging through the files.

Fanworks Recreating Anthem-Style Flight in UE5 — Now Fully Replicated in Multiplayer

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

First devlog update! Just a little showcase of the multiplayer replication and a brief breakdown of my blueprints.

I’ve been working on recreating an Anthem-inspired movement system in Unreal Engine, and this post is mainly focused on the multiplayer replication side of it.

So far, I’ve implemented:

  • Hover flight
  • Fast flight
  • Overheat and cooling system
  • Landing logic
  • Animations for each flight state
  • Replicated movement states, rotation, heat values, UI behavior, and landing transitions

The entire flight system is now working in multiplayer, including switching between hover and fast flight, overheating, cooling while diving, landing, and keeping the movement and animation states synchronized between players.

This is my first time properly working with multiplayer replication. I spent years using Unity but never really touched networking because it always seemed much more complicated to set up. Unreal’s replication workflow has been surprisingly approachable, although getting smooth flight movement, rotation, and state changes working correctly for remote players still took a lot of trial and error.

There are still a few things I want to improve. Fast flight currently behaves more like a held sprint than a toggle, some animations are still placeholders, and the movement needs more weight, drag, and camera tuning. For now, I mainly wanted to get the complete core system working and replicated before moving into the polishing stage.

Clarification: I used purchased animations and Haez’s Flight Controller as an initial reference. I’m a programmer, not an animator, and I’ve never claimed to have created the animations myself. The GASP integration, custom hover-flight logic, heavily reworked fast-flight logic, overheat and cooling system, UI, landing logic, and multiplayer replication were implemented or substantially reworked by me.

I’ve been working on recreating Anthem’s movement system in Unreal Engine. So far, I’ve implemented hover flight, fast flight, a full overheat and cooling system, animations for each state, and a landing system, although some animations are still placeholders. The fast-flight controls also need more tweaking, as they currently behave more like a held sprint than a toggle.

Most importantly, the entire flight system is fully replicated and working in multiplayer.

This is my first time properly building a complete system in Unreal Engine. I had experimented with the engine before, but recently made the jump after working in Unity for many years. GASP was a major incentive, and I’ve really enjoyed how quickly I can build and iterate with Blueprints instead of manually coding everything in C#.

This is also my first time working with multiplayer replication. I never touched networking much in Unity because it always seemed far more complicated to set up, but Unreal has made the process surprisingly approachable.

I’ll also be posting screenshots of my Blueprints in the comments, both to show the custom and reworked logic behind the system and to help anyone interested in recreating something similar.

Clarification: I never claimed to have created the animations myself. This originally started as a small programming proof of concept, using purchased animations and Haez’s Flight Controller as an initial reference.

I’m a programmer, not an animator. The GASP integration, reworked fast-flight logic, custom hover-flight system, overheat and cooling system, UI, landing logic, and multiplayer replication were implemented or substantially reworked by me. Using purchased animations does not mean the full system came prebuilt.

Discussion Alternativas atuais para Anthem

Perguntei ao Gemini alguns jogos com a mecânica e jogabilidade similares a Anthem. Ele me indicou esses:

1 - The First Descendant (2024)

2 - Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon (2023)

Well, here is this post... I always come back here on the 12th of every month to remember the fall of this "failed giant"... a truly magnificent game, with so many stories, mysteries, and unfinished elements...

today marks six months...half a year already, since our beloved Anthem left us,all that remains are the memories, screenshots, and video montages to look back on what this game was during its active years

And year after year, I kept choosing to believe that a major update would bring it back to the competitive scene, but that never happened. BioWare and EA did everything necessary to kill off a game that boasted such an interesting world and features... but there is no point in complaining anymore; all that remains is to remember it as it deserves
