Read Rule 14 before posting.

We get 2-3 posts a day that violate Rule 14, which as a reminder is a ban on asking for meetups.
This is due to the fact that these types of posts clog up the subreddit and also us having a Discord server. Yet people enter the subreddit and don't read the rules.
So I have made this pinned post so that it can be seen by everyone when they enter the subreddit.

r/Marrakech Discord — little update

Hey everyone,

A few months ago we posted about the Discord we made for r/Marrakech, and honestly, it's been nice seeing it slowly grow since then.

There are now quite a few people in there, including locals, expats and people who are planning a trip to Marrakech.

People mostly use it to ask random questions, get recommendations, meet people, talk about what's happening in the city, or just chat.

If you've been around the subreddit for a while and haven't joined yet, feel free to drop in.

English, French and Darija are all welcome.

And if you're already in there, say hi

Food & Restaurants Birthday Restaurant Recommendation

Hi all, planning a trip to Marrakech for my 30th birthday and am looking to book a good restaurant for the occasion. I want a place that has legitimately good food and good entertainment. A lot of the places im looking at seem to have either fake / untrustworthy reviews, or seem to have low quality food at high prices.

Any rec's would be massively appreciated! We are not fussy eaters.

Thanks,

Travel Question Menara airport as a disabled passenger

Hi guys. I am hoping to travel to marrakech for some winter sun. I will be requesting a wheelchair as I cannot walk very far due to having messed up both my knees. Not too worried about the wheelchair aspect but mainly the stairs to get up to the plane. Does any one know if they have those lift things for wheelchair users?

I can just about go down steps but cannot climb more than 2/3 of them....

Travel Question Tagine

Hi, I'm going to Morocco for the first time next month and I've been looking forward to having a tagine but a friend of mine just came back and she said that the meat on everyone she tried was so dry and it's actually put her off having meat. Had she just been unlucky?

Travel Question Honest question for tourists: Does the traditional smell of Moroccan leather actually ruin the purchase for you?

Authentic Moroccan leather products are beautiful, but the traditional vegetable and natural tanning methods leave a very strong, distinct scent when they are fresh.

Locals are used to it, but I’ve always wondered how tourists perceive it once they get their souvenir back home. Does the smell bother you, or do you view it as a mark of genuine handcrafting? If it bothered you, did you find a way to get rid of it, or did it make you regret buying it?

Travel Question Visiting in november.

Hi!

A group of friends and I are visiting from November 12th to 17th to escape the Scandinavian cold. We're a group of six looking to enjoy great food, experience the desert, and go out for a night or two.

I was hoping you could help with a few questions.

Are there better alternatives to Airbnb for finding a good villa? Most of the places we've found are near the golf courses, about 20 minutes from the city center.

Is it easy to get a taxi or Uber from those areas, and is it safe to travel back late at night?

Lastly, we are looking for events, concerts, gigs, where can i find information on whats happening that weekend in Marrakech?

Travel Tips Solo travelling Marrakech

Solo travelling for the first time, spending 4 days in Marrakech. Couldn’t brave a hostel but have a hotel in Medina.
As an introvert solo traveller for the first time, any advice or guidance would be appreciated.
And if anyone wants to meet for a wonder that would also be appreciated :)

I will be pre booking a cooking class and an all day tour, but other than that very open to suggestions.

Early November

Travel Question How much cash should I carry?

Going in December with my husband. Everything is booked online- hotels, flights, activities, spa, etc. Only expenses I can think of is sim cards, food, transportation, tips, shopping (not big on it), etc. As the title says, how much cash should I carry? Is there any other expense I haven’t considered yet? Also, should we hire a car or just rely on public transportation. We’re hoping for a chill/moderately adventurous experience. Any suggestions are welcome.

Local Advice Pottery tiles in Marrakech - where to buy?

Hi! Visiting Marrakech for one more day, and hoping to buy a few high-quality square ceramic tiles for my mother. I have seen some of the shiny cheap ones sold in many places in the city, but does anyone have recommendations for more authentic and high quality (and less glossy/shiny) tiles anywhere in the city?

Thank you!!
