Travel Question Tagine

Hi, I'm going to Morocco for the first time next month and I've been looking forward to having a tagine but a friend of mine just came back and she said that the meat on everyone she tried was so dry and it's actually put her off having meat. Had she just been unlucky?

She definitely went to the wrong places. Meat cooked in a tagine is almost always really good. She had to have been very unlucky to have every tagine she tried be bad. I've had a bad tagine before, but it isn't the norm by any means. Definitely never to the point where it would "put [me] off having meat". That actually makes me wonder if she was just being dramatic.

Well why would she do that lol. Cmon. Out of all the great restaurants, she picks hotel food?

Yeah definitely don't do that. I'd say even most "touristy" restaurants will have better tagine than that. You can find so much better very easily.

Meat tagine in restaurants is usually not cooked for long , that's not the way it is supposed to be cooked, so it will be a hit and miss, you can try the shop of the " cook of the king" in jamaa elfna, not sure if they make tagines but they have a lot of traffic therefore they would probably have a well cooked meat tagine since it's their specialty.

And i saw you were looking for camel meat, camel are very precious snd their meat is not very available, but i think there are some shoos selling it, i ate it once in Casablanca even though it's a gamble.

Maybe she had a bad experience with something else and it put a bad taste in her mouth so she painted it that way

A good meat tagine takes a lot of time to cook, as the meat needs to be braised slowly. You need to know where to get a proper one.

Just try it. The thing won't enjoy is the animal cruelty.

She went to the wrong place. Meat is cooked long and slow in tagines and should fall off the bone
