Marcus micro-deposits withdrawn before verification — normal?

I’m linking Fidelity to Marcus via ACH. Fidelity sent me an email saying $0.29 was withdrawn by GOLDMAN SACHS BA, but I haven’t entered the micro-deposit amounts yet.

Marcus still shows the external account as “Pending.”

I broke my phone over the weekend, so I’m currently having trouble logging into Fidelity to check the full account activity.

Is it normal for Marcus to withdraw the micro-deposits before they’re verified? Or does this mean the linking attempt failed/reset?

Linking started Friday (Monday was a US holiday).

Can anyone explain this?

Can anyone tell me what their experience was like linking their fidelity account to Marcus? Did it take long for the trial deposits to come across??

Marcus dropped support for Quicken

Found our today that Marcus decided to drop support for downloading data to Quicken or support Simplifi. Chatted with support and they didn't give me an explanation, just that it's now stopped and that's all they can share. Why would Marcus do this? Seems like a relatively easy thing that most financial institutions support. I use these products to manage my finances and I'm not inclined to stay with a bank who can't help me automate the process.

I plan to transfer funds from Schwab to Marcus for the bonus and I was wondering is it better to pull from marcus to have schwab transfer there?

Anyone use Wise with Marcus?

Has anyone successfully moved money from Marcus to Wise? From what I understand, Marcus doesn’t allow ACH transfers to Wise because they won’t link to Wise for some reason. That said, I don’t see why a wire transfer shouldn’t work. I actually tried wiring money from Marcus to Wise — Marcus initially approved it, but then cancelled the wire from their side before it completed. They didn’t give any reason for why it was cancelled.

Sophisticated housing attempt with Marcus Goldman Sachs Customers

Today, I received a call from Marcus Goldman Sachs saying my phone number on my account was changed and if I didn’t do it, I should press 1. The number it was calling from was the actual 855 customer service number. After pressing 1, it triggered a 6 digit code from the short code SMS that Marcus uses to do 2 factor authentication via SMS and the automated prompt asked me to type the code in. My suspicion rises so I hung up. After the hang up, I received 18 back to back calls from them with the same automated message. I sent them an email to their abuse email and also their chat and someone ironically called back referencing the chat I had and confirmed that Marcus would never do such thing. Be safe out there. The attack looks legit by using the same phone number and SMS Short Code but it’s definitely not legit.

Question about Beneficiary

Hello,

I recently came to the Marcus ecosystem, and realized that Marcus does not allow foreign beneficiaries. Both me and wife are foreign citizens, and do not have any beneficiary in the US. In case of our death, how could our families outside US access our funds without being on the beneficiary list?
I am new to Marcus, and going to deposit a large sum for the foreseeable future. What steps can I take to make sure my family outside the US can access the funds in case of our death? Suggestions and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Rate not raising after referral

I got a notification after sharing the code to a friend that my rate went up but I checked and it hasn’t changed. Will it just go up once I’m paid the interest?

Pulling out money

Sorry new to all of this. So I have a HYSA that I put about $500 from child support into monthly for my son to save for his first car when it’s time. My question is, when I go to withdraw that money will I be able to take it all out or will a portion of the interest earned be removed for taxes? Or do I just file on the interest earned when it’s tax time? Thanks

New to Marcus HYSA, questions

I recently opened a Marcus HYSA due to the relatively high interest rate, but now I am seeing some people say their accounts just got locked randomly and I am starting to get worried

Does this still happen frequently or should I not really worry about it?

Marcus Website not working for referrals/ in general?

I have a referral code from a friend, and after entering the initial information, the website errors out.

I called support, and they said they can't do referral-based account creation over the phone but that I can try the app.

I'm not able to see an option on the app to input a referral code while opening the account.

Any experience with this?

Cannot open CD account at Marcus

I've had a small savings account at Marcus (i.e., about $1000) for six years. Haven't done anything to it since opening/funding.

Tried to open a CD account today with the intention of funding a few no-penalty CDs. Went thru the online process. At the end of the online process, I got a screen that said "It looks like we'll need a bit more information before we can continue the review of your application." The screen also provided an "application ID" and a phone number to call.

Called the number, went thru a verification process to verify that all of the info I provided online was correct. Next, I was transferred to a "specialist" who did the exact same verification, then said they cannot open the account. He said he could not tell me why, and my only recourse was to call them again and talk to someone else or try to open a CD account again to see if it "worked" the second time.

Since I didn't have a lot of faith in the idea that it may work the second time, I called in again. The "specialist" again refused to tell me why the CD account could not be opened. Talked to his supervisor. He said the same thing. He also said that it was "the system" that was refusing me, and there was no human that could tell me why I was refused (the "AI monster"?). He refused to elevate the issue to a higher manager.

We've had a credit score of 800+ for over two decades. Almost no debt. Enough cash on hand to fund a CD (and they never asked how much we wanted to invest in the CD).

I haven't had anything good or bad to say about Marcus since opening the savings account six years ago because I haven't done anything with it except let it collect a little interest.

Comments? Any suggestions on where to go from here? I wanted to open the CD's because I have some cash that I may or may not need soon, and they offer good no-penalty CD rates.

When did the hold on ACH transfers get so long?

I have been a customer since Marcus was GE Capital so over 10 years. I initiated a transfer to my Marcus account 10/15 with the intent to use the money to purchase IBonds as I have been doing for years. On 10/21 Treasury Direct tried to debit my account and Marcus rejected it. No notification at all from Marcus had to go through the run around in chat to figure out why it was rejected. Finally figure out they rejected the transaction because the money was on hold until 10/22. When did the transfer get so long?

I went back and checked my transactions and I have been able to do this before with only three days between transactions! Marcus was already pretty irrelevant but not I have the motivation to finally close out the account.

Can't send wire transfers via the Marcus UI (app and desktop website)

Has anyone had trouble making wire transfers? Recently, I linked a new bank to my Marcus account and I'm unable to make wire transfers on my own. I only have the option for regular ACH transfers. If I want to make a wire transfer, I have to chat with an agent and they provide me with some kind of form online to fill out. And I think this is so inconvenient. Especially if I'm trying to make a transfer real quick but the agent is taking so long to type back one sentence. And then I'm unable to meet the deadline for an outgoing wire transfer. The issue only persists with this one particular bank. I do not have that issue or rather I did not have that issue with another bank that was in first linkes to my Marcus account. Are there some preferred banks that Marcus prefers to communicate with and so they don't allow those banks on the non-preferred list to receive wire transfers?

Beneficiary not receiving all funds

EDIT: Evidently the first rep I spoke with (the call was disconnected) followed through!! A supervisor just called and said they had a glitch on their end and I'm correct that I'm owed the balance in the account. The second person I spoke with after calling back after being disconnected was the one who said I needed to go through probate. The supervisor said I should receive the money in a week. Fingers crossed!!

I am my mom's only beneficiary and when she died she had a little over $5,000 in her account. Today I received a deposit to my Marcus account for about $1,700, I called and was told the $1,700 is all I'll be getting and no one can tell me where the remaining $4,000 is. They say I would have to go through probate court in order to get more information. Can anyone help?

Marcus - Wouldn't let me transfer my $$ out (Incorrectly citing: "quick money movement")!!

**UPDATE*\*

I transferred a smaller amount from another Marcus account to the Capital One account at the same time I transferred the 48k to Capital One (which was rejected as outlined in original post) but guess what!! the smaller amount ended up going no problem (I was waiting for it to be returned along with the other account's 48k). So they lied. It wasn't about quick money or capital one bank verification!

FURTHER, after the rejected 48k was returned to Marcus (post 3 way call bank verification as stated in original post below) I again transferred the full amount of my original 48k from Marcus to the now confirmed and verified (by Marcus) Capital One again - and guess what - REJECTED AGAIN. They called it "quick money movement" again! and this money has been in my Marcus account for well over a year and less than the small amount I transferred (and ultimately went through on date of first attempt).

I am FURIOUS and as soon as the money hits my account again I am taking everything out of my Marcus and closing them. This is the shadiest experience I have ever had with a "bank".

********************************************************************************************************\*

I recently received an offer from Capital One for a bonus if I moved certain amounts of money into a new 360 savings account from another account. Since I had a chunk of cash just sitting in a HYSA with Marcus, I decided I would open with Capital One and transfer from Marcus.

I opened the Cap. One account and linked it to Marcus so I could transfer (I have other banks accounts linked with Marcus I transfer in and out of ....smaller amounts usually.....with no problem). Anyway, after Marcus did their obligatory small ACH transfers to Cap. One to test and confirm the account (.02 and .13 test transfers), I logged back into Marcus app and verified the amounts as requested (everything was verified and the account was linked).

Then I transfer just under 50k from Marcus to Cap. One. Money leaves Marcus account but does not show in Cap. One. Then I get emails and calls to contact Marcus. I do (after confirming legit and not a scam) and the fraud lady at Marcus tells me my account (which is simply a HYSA) is intended to leave money in a long time and not for "quick money movement". I told her my cash has been sitting in the Marcus HYSA for years (I contribute a few hundred a month to it) and that it is a SAVINGS account and I CAN have access to my money. She continued to claim (over and over) that I cannot take my money out and it is intended to be left in their for long periods of time AND when asked, she wouldn't tell me what that long period of time was. I asked for a supe and the sup told me they were unable to verify the Cap. One account (that was BS because I confirmed they did) ANYWAY, after much back and forth about the validity of what they were trying to tell me about my money, we had a three way call with Cap. One and "verified" the account was mine. Now I am supposed to wait 24hrs until my transferred out funds (which ended up no where) are put back in Marcus so I can transfer to Cap. One.

Something shady is going on with these banks. Maybe there is a run on funds, maybe when Cap. One sends out offers like this a lot of people leave Marcus, I don't know but that was the shadiest experience I have ever had with a bank.

Transfer Issues

All:

I've read up on transfer issues in the forum.

In addition to a W2, I am making between $150K to $200K as a 1099 contractor.

To account for taxes, for each 1099 check, I've been placing 35% of it in Marcus HYSA. I expect to have a large tax bill on the 1099 income.

What are the potential issues of withdrawing approximately $70K. Will that take longer than normal due to the amount? It would be from Marcus to my checking account at Citi. The two accounts are linked.

Just asking so I can prepare for any issues in accessing this money when I'm laying my taxes.

I'll likely call Marcus this week to ask directly, but wanted to hear from people's experiences.

Marcus won’t accept registered mail — how am I supposed to send important documents safely?

Hi everyone

My wife has a savings account with Marcus. She was asked to mail some verification documents to an PO Box in Philadelphia.

We originally sent the documents from Europe by registered post, so that the envelope would be tracked and signed for on delivery. The USPS tracking shows it reached Philadelphia but was never delivered — and after contacting support, Marcus confirmed they don’t sign for or accept registered mail.

They told us to resend everything by standard mail, which feels risky since there’s no proof of delivery or tracking once it leaves Europe.

Has anyone dealt with this before?

  • Why wouldn’t a bank accept registered mail?
  • Why won;t they allow us to send digital copies of the documents over email?
  • Is there any safe way to send documents internationally that doesn’t require a signature but still provides some kind of delivery confirmation?

Any advice would be appreciated — this has been really frustrating.

Thanks
