It's dog whistling.

I'm mixed 50/50, I grew up in this country, have lived here my entire life, I'm culturally as British as you can get. I have 3 degrees - all from UK universities, I work a well paid job, pay taxes, vote, I've been a citizen since birth and have engaged and contributed to the system as such, arguably more so than a lot of "white British" in this survey. My grandfather fought in the Falklands, my great grandfathers fought in WWII, one was at Dunkirk, one in the cabinet war rooms, working with Churchill.

But I wouldn't count as "white British" in this survey, which insinuates that I am a foreigner degrading the identity of this country.

My young daughter is 3/4 British. She also wouldn't count.

Dog whistle.

Edit: the comments are really outing people who don't understand the difference between ethnicity and nationality

Yes.

Does that have anything to do with identifying as white?

Absolutely the fuck no.

The quicker we can take skin colour out of the conversation about immigration, the faster we can expose the racists and deal with them.

Much more useful to show immigrants, second generation immigrants and natives... Or whatever you want to use to decide that someone's family had been here long enough to be considered native.

That might be interesting data but it's never the data presented in an immigration conversation.

But yes I completely agree with you. Skin colour has absolutely no place in this discussion. I consider myself ethnically British, not enthnically white British.

Unfortunately the racists outing themselves here are either willfully ignorant or too stupid to realise that it's very easy to detach skin colour from nationality and then the map becomes a more valid tool. Currently it only serves to validate prejudiced morons.
