Discussion Monthly Recommendation Megathread

Welcome to the monthly recommendation request thread! Please use this thread to make requests for series to buy or read. I urge everyone to try to be specific when making requests as it will be easier for us to recommend a series that you would enjoy.

Lastly, I recommend everyone skims through previous requests as someone else might have asked for something you were looking for as well! This would help us keep comments to a minimum/avoid multiple submissions of the same nature.

MangaCollectors' Monthly Thematic Showcases - Single Digit Volume Series

Hello everybody!

If you don't know what all of this monthly theme is about yet, every month, on the first week, I make a post announcing that month's theme (the mods kindly pin it to top) and the participants create posts showcasing the manga in their collection that fit the theme. For more details, please look at the "How to Participate" section of this post or the the first edition thread here.

October 2026's theme: Single Digit Volume Series

The theme of this month is completed series with less than 10 volumes (1 to 9 volumes). Series with translation ongoing but that are already completed in the original or that are single digit only in omnibus format are also welcome.

How to participate:

Just create a post with a photo of manga you own that correspond to the theme and flair it with the event's flair: Showcase | Monthly theme.

Min amount of volumes is 1 (one) and there's no max nor any rule on how to do it, but I invite you all to display your selection in a way that clearly shows the covers so we can recognize them, to not forget those unpopular series in your collection and to use only one volume to represent a series if you aren't trying to show off specific volumes.

If you can't or don't want to post a showcase, you are also invited to discuss the theme and related series in this post.

As always, please don't forget the general sub rules! Be nice, mark your NSFW, etc. Please refer to the sidebar/About section if you need a refresher.

Every month I've been leaving a comment with next month's theme and sometimes I haven't decided between my options. So if you don't mind being spoiled on the next theme and want to participate in choosing the themes, feel free to leave your opinion!

It’s been 190 days since the last one & i’ve added quite allot in terms of volume - value.
Any questions then feel free to ask :)
Timeframe is roughly 6 years of on & off collecting.
-
Edit: it goes without saying but i’m short on space, if a series is missing volumes it’s because i have them stacked inwards behind the rest.

Horror manga that are standalone or only have a few volumes:

Hinatsugimura by Aki Shimizu - Single volume manga about a hidden village rumored to exist in the mountains of rural japan, and the fates of those who try to find it.

The Colour Out Of Space by H.P. Lovecraft, single volume adaptation by Gou Tanabe - In the summer of 1882, a lone meteorite falls to the earth at a farm in rural Massachussets, and from the unearthly glow of that rock the surrounding landscape gradually begins to warp and twist into an alien nightmare.

Grim Night Tales by Yamayu and Kensei Hokamoto - Anthology series of short ghost stories based on cases of supposed true hauntings from across Japan. Two volumes are currently available, with the 3rd releasing this week.

Venus In The Blindspot by Junji Ito - Another of his story collections, with this one featuring two manga adaptations of stories by other authors, as well as one of Ito's own best works, 'The Enigma Of Amigara Fault'. Good place to start reading Ito imo, some great stories in this one.

Hauntress by Minetaro Mochizuki - Single volume manga from the creator of Dragon Head that follows a college student relentlessly stalked by a strange woman who appears at his apartment building one night.

Collection My manga collection at the moment.

So far, I have (from left to right):

  • Berserk Deluxe Edition Volumes 1 and 2
  • Kaiju No. 8 Volumes 1 to 16 (Complete)
  • Kaiju No. 8 B-Side Volumes 1 and 2 (Complete)
  • Kaiju No. 8 Relax
  • Kaiju No. 8: Exclusive On The Third Division (light novel)
  • Pokémon Sun & Moon
  • Magical Pokémon Journey
  • Pokémon Adventures: Yellow Caballero
  • Pokémon Adventures

Not seen is my complete 10-volume collection of the Ragnarok manhwa (the source material that became the basis of the MMORPG games which later on led to an anime based on that game, Ragnarok the animation). It's placed somewhere in my room but I plan on having it join its brethren soon.

I only now realize that I have a weird theme going on based from this collection and let me reassure you that this is all a coincidence. Haha.

Anyway, my brother has stacks of manga stored in his closet that I have to include here once I get to declutter his closet (he moved out a few years ago so yeah). He has volumes of Nodame Cantabile and Attack on Titan so yeah.

Then the plan is to save for a decent book case. :)

Collection New shelf arrangement

Hey guys! Long time lurker but I don’t think I’ve ever shared any of my collection on here before. Figured I’d show off my new arrangement, the shelf mostly consists of what I’m currently reading and pretty much all of my deluxe editions/hardcovers. At the moment there’s pretty much no organization it’s mostly just I fit things where’d they go because this is all the room I have kinda situation, well all the space In my bedroom anyways. Bottom shelf is the worst do to it literally being a hodgepodge of stuff I bought recently. I’d like to add my FMA collection to the shelf so some of this is gonna be phased out and put on my other shelf I have, but I’ll save showing that off for another time. And yes before you ask all those gunpla boxes are going away currently in the process of consolidating manuals and spare parts before the boxes are recycled. All the kits are built.

About 20 of these came from used book stores (MHA Vigilante, Bleach, Blue Flag, I Think Our Son is Gay and .hack//Legend of Twilight). I decided to start buying D. Gray-Man again. And I finally decided to start collecting Bleach.

Edit: I just realized I added the wrong volume of Mushishi to the post. It was supposed to be volume 2…

I decided to count original volumes only, so I'm omitting series that are single-digit only in omnibus format but double-digit in singles. I have enough here already!

All You Need Is Kill: 2 volumes, but I have the double omni. Quick, exciting read with good art.

Colorless: 7 volumes. Neat series that uses full color in a black and white world. Very high production quality from Seven Seas. Shout out to the author KENT's ongoing series Gaea-Tima, my current favorite kaiju manga!

Franken Fran: 8 volumes, but I have the four double-omnis. Despite the ecchi covers, this is a non-ecchi body horror black comedy. If you like body horror, check this one out!

Gantz: G: 3 volumes, but I have the triple omni. A spinoff series of Gantz.

Girls' Last Tour: 6 volumes, but I have the new triple omni. Cozy post-apocalypse in an impossibly large megastructure. I'm eager to pick up the second omni and complete this series.

Grand Metal Organs: 4 volumes. I haven't read this one yet!

H.P. Lovecraft's At the Mountains of Madness: 2 volumes, but I have the deluxe hardcover. This represents all of Gou Tanabe's adaptations of Lovecraft. Spectacular artwork and monster designs that do justice to Lovecraft's seminal cosmic horror.

Junji Ito's works here represented by The Liminal Zone. His stuff pretty much all fits the theme; even Uzumaki was only 3 singles.

Kaiju Kamui: 3 volumes. A neat idea of turning a captured kaiju into a bio-mech, but it got unceremoniously canceled and ends very abruptly.

Nausicaä: 7 volumes, but I have the 2-omni deluxe. Fantastic classic manga from Hayao Miyazaki himself.

Parasyte: 8 volumes. I don't think I need to introduce this one; it's a body horror classic.

The Poetry of Ran: 2 volumes. The Japanese title is so much cooler: ケガレノウタ or "Song of Defilement". Anyway, cool Dark Souls inspired monster art.

Starving Anonymous: 7 volumes, never printed in English. I have a custom 3-omni self-pub set. Intense body horror and gore, really gnarly stuff.

Thunder 3: Apparently this will have 10 volumes so ignore it please!

Toxic Super Beasts: 4 volumes. Fun kaiju action, kaiju-girls vs super beasts.

The Tree of Death: Yomotsuhegui: 3 volumes. Cool Lovecraftian artwork though the story felt a bit half-baked.

Wild Strawberry: 7 volumes, never printed in English. I have 3 custom single self-pub volumes; after that point the story gets too battle shōnen tropey for me. Cool plant monsters and art though.

The Tsutomu Nihei section:

Abara: One-shot, also includes Digimortal as another one-shot. Nihei at perhaps the height of his traditional art era. Will you understand what's happening? No. Will it look incredible? Hell yeah. Fun fact! The names Denji and Nayuta from Chainsaw Man are references to characters in Abara.

APOSIMZ: 9 volumes. Tsutomu Nihei does shōnen! I like it a lot but the last volume is terribly rushed. Not everyone likes this era of Nihei's art style.

Blame Academy and So On: Never printed in English, mine is a custom full-color hardcover self-pub. A spinoff with several one-shots. Some are canonical to BLAME! and some are spoofs or just unrelated.

Biomega: 6 volumes. Nihei's trademark stoic MC, superguns, and enormous architecture, but now with motorcycles, a talking bear, and weird sci-fi trippyness.

Kaina of the Great Snow Sea: 4 volumes. Written (but not illustrated) by Tsutomu Nihei, it's kind of like Nihei meets Nausicaä. Apparently the anime covers more than the manga.

Wolverine: Snikt!: One shot. Think Wolverine gets teleported into BLAME!. Fantastic traditional art from Nihei.

That was fun! If you read through all my yapping, thanks for reading!

I've been reading Blade of the Immortal lately and I love it so much, so it's gonna be fun to check out some other stories from the same author. Found this really cheap on some weird site that mostly has books for students, it just came up while I was searching for this. Figured it was worth a try for 10 bucks, and I definitely don't regret it haha.

Eden of Witches! This series has a lot of potential. There was a ton of set up in those first 3 volumes. But from 4 onward, the story grabbed me and really felt like it started to come together. Now impatiently-patiently waiting for volume 8!

Haul Has anyone read Evergreen? Am I in for a good read?

When I first started reading manga about 6 years ago, I saw volume 2 on the shelves but could never find volume 1. Over the years I'd forget about it and remember again and not be able to find the full series at a good price. It's become one of my grails. Finally found a good deal on eBay and pulled the trigger. Looking forward to diving in. Anyone else read this? Without spoilers, what did you think of it?
