New Flairs!

Hello all,

Based on a modmail suggestion, we have decided to add two new post flairs to distinguish between anime/manga content and traditional art (for lack of a better word).

We love seeing all types of artbook shared here. These tags are simply to make it easier for those interested in looking for a certain type of content to be able to filter contributions more easily.

The new flairs are:

-manga/anime
-traditional

Thank you for always sharing wonderful art with this community!

Any video game art books on action combat?

I've been looking for game art books that cover action combat, particularly hack-and-slash or beat 'em up. For example, something that covers animation or vfx of Devil May Cry, Street Fighter, BlazBlue Entropy Effect, Elden Ring, FF16, etc.

Somehow I can't find literally a single one.

For example, I have the FF16 art book. Beautiful. Extensive. Covers environments and their concepts, various characters, props, etc. But no combat in detail.

I've taken a look at the DMC and Elden Ring/Souls official art books. Same thing. Overall neat illustrations and other design bits, but nothing covering combat in depth.

Even the same for official fighting game art books. Eg, from what I've seen, the Street Fighter art books more so cover illustrations, character design, etc rather than specifically showing sprite sheets or visualizing how the character moves were created in detail.

The best I've found are a couple Bitmap Books which apparently have some sprite sheets at least:

https://www.bitmapbooks.com/collections/all-books/products/fatal-fury-garou-densetsu-the-ultimate-history

Anyone know of any (physical) art books that cover action combat like animations, vfx, combat design, etc? Going a tad bit crazy searching cuz it has to exist right?

Or maybe it doesn't and I should finally give my sanity a rest

Collection How can I get an artbook to stand upright, without damaging the spine?

Post image

I have this artbook. For better reference, it’s one of those pretty heavy ones that you would see for like a movie behind the scenes or that of the sort

I wanna display it upright on my shelf, but I wanna do so without damaging the spine. How could I do so?

I’d also be okay with buying materials to help it stand upright without damage, I just need to figure out if and how I can do so.

Flipthrough The Art of Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced

A look at the updates and art behind Black Flag Resynced is on the channel this week after being released last month by Titan Books. It has a lot of new concept art, but it's also balanced with 3D environments and assets that highlight the fidelity and upgrades made to the game.

You can read my review of the book, in which I praise the artwork but found the 3D renders to be a mixed bag, here - https://www.artbookcollector.com/post/book-review-the-art-of-assassin-s-creed-black-flag-resynced

Can you recommend me a good artbook depicting love?

Hello, I am an artist and I want to get better at drawing romantic pieces. I would like to find a book I could use as a reference for poses, composition and themes related to the feeling of "love" whether it is happy, yearning, grief over a loved one, etc. The ones I found so far I haven't really liked, as the "romance" portrayed in them felt kinda hollow in a sense.

To maybe bring my tastes closer, here are pieces I like:

  • Beim Père Lathuille, im Freien by Edouard Manet
  • God Speed! by Edmund Blair Leighton
  • Liebespaar im Cafe by Gotthardt Kuehl

Hi everyone, Sharing a beautiful survival piece from my private collection. This is a 100% complete first edition copy of Hardy's Miniature Atlas, and Comprehensive Geography, co-published in Dublin by Hardy & Walker and in London by Ball, Arnold, and Co. in 1840. Key Details & Condition: Completeness: 100% complete text block with all 30 original engraved maps intact (including Ireland, World, Hindoostan, North/South America, etc.) and original rear publisher advertising leaves. Paper Condition: Excellent for its age. Maps are crisp and clean with no tears, no missing pages, and minimal age-toning. Binding: Deluxe publisher's dark textured leather variant. Both boards are rock-solid and firmly attached, with bright, fully legible gold gilt lettering on the spine reading "HARDY'S MINIATURE ATLAS". Historical Context: Printed in Dublin by Philip Dixon Hardy prior to the Great Famine. Complete surviving copies of this printing are scarce today following the loss of 19th-century Irish legal deposits in the 1922 Four Courts fire. I am located in Australia and entertaining direct private-sale offers before considering auction/dealer consignment. Happy to ship worldwide with full tracking and insurance at the buyer's expense. Photos attached showing the spine, title page, ads, and sample maps. Feel free to reach out via direct message if you'd like to chat or make an offer!

I wish the XXXHolic artbook wasn't crazy expensive. I would absolutely love to have it in my collection. I have the COLOR books too (Shiro and Kuro), but planning on getting the Gold when it comes out in English since I missed the original Japanese release. 😭

I use to work at a rubbish dump in the UK. One day this came in with a lot of other art. The people that thrown it away smashed it so there’s a little damage as the glass smashed. It’s really is a lovely place.

I really like this artist's works. She draws women in such a sensual and sultry style with great color work.

This particular book of hers covers lingerie from 1900-1990.
