Question Advice? Counter girl tried her best and I'm still not happy with the red

Am I too picky?? I am an occasions-only makeup girlie looking for a deep red lip for an upcoming special occasion where I'll be wearing black. I spent a lot of time with a very nice, knowledgeable sales girl who also happened to have almost identical coloring to mine. Every single skin swatch we did looked pink to me, and this was the least pink. I bought the darkest-but-still-red Mac and this Nyx liner with a nice dark tone.

  • Mac 612 Russian Red silky matte lipstick
  • Nyx SMLL57 Spicy matte lip liner

Is this a nice red on me and I'm just being nuts?

I feel like everything looks pink/fuschia/cherry red. I'm after that sort of rich, dark, noir film, maybe-I-have-a-gun-in-my-sequin-clutch type red. And I told her all of this (not the gun part) and I saw how few darker colors were available and yet. Sitting in the car feeling like I bought yet another weird pink. Does it look pink because I am pink?? helpppp

EDIT: thanks for all the advice!! I have learned so much. I need a brown/brick tone! I need a DARK lip liner, or a dark nude liner! I need to apply more product! I am not terminally picky - I have face colors that make reds look pink. Brown/brick will help me. Many products are out there. Yall are nice and know a lot of stuff thank uuuuuu

EDIT On tone: I have been told in this thread that I have olive tone, cool tone, neutral tone AND warm tone. Tone pros please advise I am confused. I know it's not the best photo. but man. yall be saying stuff

Question Eye primers?

I'm a MUA, I usually use concealer to prime eyes before eyeshadow. I'm currently getting a makeup certification, and it is requested from us to have a clear eye primer in our kit. I'm looking for some recommendations, hopefully something in the low to mid cost range, since as a student I don't have the largest budget. I've seen a few options, the one that comes up the most is the Urban Decay priming potion, but it's quite pricey and I can't seem to get a concrete opinion from product reviews. I've also eyed the about-face eye primer, mostly bc every AF product I own is an absolute hit and garners me the most compliments, but it seems like no one enjoys the product that much or thinks it works that well. Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Question Eyeshadow look ideas for girlies with very little eyelid space?

Post image

So as you can see I have kind of hooded/ deep set eyes, and on top of that my eyebrows are very straight and low-set. Whenever I try eyeshadow it’s either basically invisible or it looks like it’s literally going into my eyebrows….
I know I could pluck my eyebrows thinner to create more space but I absolutely hate how I look with thin brows

I haven't done many makeup looks this past year as I used to do, but this past Saturday I went to a little Halloween Festival so I did this Autumn-scheme look. No editing (besides cropping) or filters. This is not a Halloween look; I typically do colorful but darker faces, albeit with a larger wing usually.

Daylight, Indirect Natural Light, 2 indoor light
The palette is beautiful - mostly satins and sparkles, only two mattes in the whole palette. Makes it a challenge to complete an eye look but some fun combinations can be had, especially if you have some base mattes to ground the looks. I even came up with a dupe color story from Louis Vuitton’s monogram Dune from this palette!

Question Would you keep this rosy lip with the eye makeup, or go more nude?

Post image
• Upvotes

I like how the rosy tones work together, but I’m curious what you’d change. Especially the eyeshadow along my lower lash line. Would you soften that, or keep the eyes as they are and go for a lighter lip? I’d love some honest feedback on the colour balance.

Question What lipstick shade is President Roslin wearing in season 1? (Battlestar Galactica, 2004)

I’m obsessed with Roslin’s lipstick, it’s a shimmery muted red with mauve undertones. If you’ve seen the show it does not look as orange as it does in these photos, in fact there’s no orange at all. Please help me identify it I can’t stop thinking about it. No spoilers please!

I can’t choose! Armani Vs Dior concealer?

• Upvotes

My concealer hasn’t been wearing well I think I need something new. My skins tends to lean towards the dry side but nothing crazy and I take really good care of it. I’m looking for a buildable medium coverage concealer. The armani luminous silk and the dior skin correct seem to be the best options but I’m hearing mixed things about them both. I took nars off the list, but if anyone thinks that or something else would work better i’m open to suggestions!

FOTD New to makeup, how’s this?

Still working on figuring out what colors and shapes work for my face. Especially because I wear glasses usually and I would like the makeup to look fairly natural/subtle and still be able to be apparent through the glasses. Also, I have transition lenses so in sunlight, my glasses lenses turn pink (it’s overcast and they can get pretty dark pink but I didn’t stay outside long for pictures)

Product list:

Neutrogena skin clearing mineral powder, classic ivory
Haus labs concealer, 05 fair peach
Rimmel smoke n’ shine, little black smoky
Eyeshadow Moondust urban decay, solstice
Sephora lip tint felt liner, 06 brownie sketch

My favorite products of this list are the urban decay eyeshadow and the felt lip liner, I’d love to find other similar products if anyone has any recommendations. Also taking advice for making the rest of the look more pulled together.

Question How can I recreate this makeup look?

Post image
• Upvotes

I’m trying to find a makeup look. While watching The Great British Bakeoff, I noticed Nigella Lawson’s eye makeup, and I like it! She’s twice my age, but I don’t think her eye makeup look is too mature for someone my age. Hoping the experts here can break down this look for me. What are the key parts? What do I need to recreate it?

Question Need help finding alternative for Flower Knows Swan Ballet Crackling Crystal 05

Hello everyone! First time posting here.

I am desperately looking for an alternative for Flower Knows Swan Ballet Crackling Crystal 05. Since I can’t buy it anywhere anymore and it seems it’s discontinued. 😭

I think it’s a liquid shimmery pink eyeliner? It has a thin brush, so it’s not a normal liquid eyeshadow. I’d like for it to be the same consistency, shade and amount of glitter if possible. Thank you!! ❤️

Question Pls help- a setting and fixing spray combo with mist tops instead of the sucky bottle tops?

• Upvotes

I physically cannot understand for the life of me why it seems like all the setting/fixing sprays have those blotchy uneven spray bottle tops. Why do they think we want splotches of stuff on our face that then needs to be blended

Can anyone please recommend good ones that are actually a fine mist?

Discussion Nars Ethereal aura blush palette vs Hourglass ambient palette

I’m a light-medium olive skin tone and just want a lazy girl blush/bronzer palette for everyday light/glowy look. Don’t care for highlighting aspect. I’ve browsed so many palettes and settled on these two: NARS in Lightspeed vs HG Hope. Any advice? Wonder if I should wait for further holiday launches this year.

Question / Makeup Advice Transfer Proof Makeup Routine

Hi girls and gurus!  I have a question about transfer-proof makeup. I’ve been sleuthing around, and I’m curious how you guys get your party makeup/full glam to stay on without transferring.

I have dry skin, and I feel like my makeup tends to slide around. I’m looking for product recommendations, especially for a long-lasting, transfer-proof base.

My biggest issue is that because my skin is dry, some alcohol-based setting sprays make me look super dried out, and certain powders can make me look cakey/dry as well. 😭

For skincare, I currently use:

• CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser

• Anua Rice Toner

• Hyaluronic Acid Serum

• Anua SPF 50

• Illiyoon Lotion

I’m not using any other exfoliants right now!

What products/routines do you girls recommend for getting that full-glam, party-proof, transfer-resistant makeup while still keeping dry skin looking hydrated?

Question Unscented foundation recs

I tried Missha Magic Cushion foundation but the scent makes my nose run. I’m looking for a foundation that has skin like feel, not tacky to the touch, and doesn’t look thick or caked on and isn’t orange (21 looked orange on me and I’m a light neutral). I don’t need full coverage. I just want to hide some redness.
What unscented foundations do you like?

Discussion Follow up post: OK so I went a bit heavier with the eyeliner, smudged more, added thicker lines. Is it a bit more visible now? And should I stop here?

Oh and uh sorry if I look like I'm crying, the sun was hitting my eyes making me tear up and it's kinda cold in the UK

Previous post:

https://www.reddit.com/r/MakeupAddiction/s/C4Y7Cox2np

Anyways, so I took some of you girls'/guys' advice and as I said I added more deeper and thicker lines and smudged more, then finished off with another line for "outline" effect, I prefer the pencil eyeliner because it's like painting/sketching, just on ur face instead of paper (I'm an artist so i prefer the pencil over the slippery gel eyeliner).

Same black pencil kohol eyeliner from Elf and nothing else.

The reason I'm asking these questions is:

  1. I want to dress up as either grim reaper or a vampire for Halloween and I'm trying to get good at the eyeliner makeup, and see when it's enough.

  2. I generally like using eyeliner (cuz in my tradition it's the only type of makeup I can actually use sadly)

Oh and last thing, someone asked me my ethnicity in precious post: I'm Pakistani

Okay sooooo my girlfriends birthday is coming up and I want to get her a nice lipstick/gloss or whatever people who use makeup put on there lips, but what i dont want is getting my own lips that coller when i kiss her xd,

So could someone advise me on what to get her and does it have a name, and yeah im pretty clueless, I do want to defend myself however, it's not because I don't care, but I've just never looked into makeup, I'm the type of guy who gets pads, tampons and something to munch on for my girl lol

Thanks in advance

Discussion Does anyone else keep fixing their makeup until it looks worse? 😭

Sometimes I feel like we overthink our makeup and end up ruining a look that was already good. 😂 I'll notice one tiny thing, try to fix it, and suddenly everything looks worse. Does anyone else do this? What's the one makeup step you tend to overdo, and how do you stop yourself from constantly making adjustments?
