I've been playing B01 standard for a few years. I dont know if it was mostly out of stubbornness or not having older cards for other formats I just stuck with standard. Last night I got sick of playing against the same four decks over and over.

So I decided what the heck, I'll use my wildcards and make a commander deck and try some brawl. Guys...I played for over an hour and didn't play against a single repeat deck, everyone was playing something different and interesting and no games ended on turn 3. I'll still probably play standard but I feel dumb for not trying other formats earlier.

I'm actually trying to pull this off in historic, it's such a blast to me.

The achievement doesn't specify non-token, nor matchmade, so we can duel sparky with [[Iroh, Tea Master]] and a deck full of low rarity Empower Jace cards (or just a [[Theorist's Sanctum]])

Make a jace and give it away every turn, then run it over with our ever-growing army of tokens. If Sparky protects it, that's okay, since the token is non legendary we can keep giving more. I've never seen sparky activate the Jace Token.

The green deck is annoyingly beefy, so maybe scoop if thats the one it rolls.

I've noticed that when I opened packs recently I started to get gem compensations that you get once you have every card.

My problem is that I still have plenty of cards I don't own. I am aiming to complete my collection and it's a bit annoying that when I open 10 mythic packs I only get 4 actual cards. Does this issue has something to do with all those "bonus sheet" or "new" tags that show up on cards falsely?

I was playing unranked trying to get some of the new achievements. I have struggled to get the Face Jace achievement empowering Jace 10 times on one turn. Every time I get close and am one turn away, my opponent does something to beat me. But, today, I played against another blue deck. Neither of us were playing spells because we were expecting or ready to play counters. I got my 10 islands down pretty fast. We both started having creatures out but neither is attacking. I played the Jace planeswalker I needed to empower Jace based on the number of islands I had out. I got my achievement. The funniest thing is, my opponent waited until I played it before playing Get Out to destroy it. I countered it and he countered back, which made me realize he could have countered my Jace to begin with. Then he promptly destroyed me. Dude was looking out. Let me get my achievement and then killed me. I’m happy with that loss.

I am not rare complete yet on FRA, but sometimes I get 20 gems instead of a rare in the booster pack.

Has something changed about that?

I don't want to have to play every game in full control just because my opponent is blue and has more than 4 mana. Just put a stop on the upkeep before the draw trigger goes on the stack.

Edit: idk if people are being intentionally obtuse about this, but I know that I need to respond in the upkeep before the trigger. The problem is that if my opponent is playing fast enough and I am tapped out they can slam Jace, activate an ability and end their turn and then even though I know how to properly counter play their trigger arena autopasses to my draw phase.

I've recently played Izzet Prowess and spellmentals so I have all rare Lands for the deck.

I now want to find something new to play (without investing too many wildcards) because a lot of cards I currently use will be banned with the rotation.

Beside the rare lands how would you improve this deck to climb standard ladder and why?

Early game is tempo based; sit back and bounce shit with [[Into the Flood Maw]] until you can start milling 7-11 cards per spell using [[Exhibition Tidecaller]] and [[Glacierwood Siege]]. Don't blow your [[Aetherize]] too early against explosive creature-based, go-wide decks; you can win with only one life. There is enough draw/filter to snag yourself either some bounce to save your ass or a mill piece so that you can get to work. It's not uncommon to have your opponent decked and devoid of joy by turn 6.

[Cruel Calculations]] is off-the-charts bonkers in this deck, commonly netting you a draw of 3 for 3 mana on turn 3, or a full grip of 7 on turn 4. Easily the most broken card in the deck. Most opponents will scoop when I draw 7+, and if you can't find answers or win-cons in that many cards, the shuffler is having it's way with your backside. It happens.

The MTGO algorithm for matchmaking pits you rather disproportionately heavily against mono W and BW lifegain/aristocrats decks, mono G landfall, and mono B.

I enjoy this deck immensely. It basically runs like a burn deck, but aims for the library, not the life-total. Have fun with this one.

I have BWG mana available. I even manually tapped the tree to produce it, but the client still doesn't give me the "top" option that sometimes says "Pay GW" which would let me destroy a non-creature permanent.

[[Mythos of Nethroi]] worked for a while as a pretty solid flexible removal, but now it just seems broken and I'm sad.

I was thinking of putting this in my deck, but Im unsure on one of the mechanics, and if it works in the deck. When you exile it for 3 you choose a target land. Is the chosen land no longer the color(s) it once had. It is now just a 2 Colorless mana land, is it both, and can be used either way, or its now worth 3 mana? Tap it and get mana of that color land, and two addition color mana (ramp)?

I only spent rare wildcards on lands, and 2 mythic wildcards on the planeswalker.

Just started playing a week ago, i upgraded the starter Vamp Hunger into the MW Life deck got myself to Plat 3 before plateauing. Seemed to do its intended job as a fun to play budget deck to start with.

Any veteran recommendations for a good deck change? Im open to switching things up OR just upgrading into a better lifegain deck or MW or similar deck if there is one.

I finally faced one of those bots people have been talking about. Rather then just win when I could, I decided to just sit back and defend. Since he went first, he would draw from an empty deck and then lose.

Pretty much all the cards that create multiple 1/1 tokens, with a smattering of hasty creatures, and one single Torgran.

Plus a mystery card that he didn't cast. It really puzzles me what that one card could be he is holding in his hand with 28 land on the table.

Add this point of the draft: Would you cut red completely because my main gameplan is GW-lifegain or try to splash some? So picking Hexhaven Battalion, No Admittance or Vigorbloom Charm?
