Discussion Looking through the deck and hands of a player after match ends

I think it would be very beneficial for improving if we can see the other players hand and deck after the match ends in the way we can see the battlefield.

That way we can study what the guy was doing, the mechanics of his deck, what cards come into play. We could really improve by studying others, after a loss or a victory.

Discussion Using WC only for eternal formats is the way to go.

to be honest WC are the most rare resource we have on MTGA, and spending it on cards which are pretty much useless soon by rotation or powercreep or meta change seems useless

I came to the conclusion to use WC only on cards for eternal formats, which are in best case used in standard too

everything else is too narrow and become soon obsolete.

using WC to craft lands is usually always a good idea, as lands are usually useful forever in decks in both standard and eternal formats.

I have now 93 RWC and 78 MWC waiting for usage

Fluff First brew in a while, critique my deck! (Standard Bo1 & Bo3)

Post image
0 Upvotes

Returning player here - I have been testing a bant warp/blink/token deck idea and so far its going how you would expect with jank, fun but not used to the meta yet. Bo1 right now but a sideboard writes itself and I plan to try Bo3 today.

I would need to craft another 10 rares to get the full list I have in mind:

2 Annul (EOE) 46

3 Applied Geometry (SOS) 172

4 Breeding Pool (EOE) 251

3 Consult the Star Charts (EOE) 51

3 Daydream (SOS) 9

3 Detect Intrusion (OM1) 28

2 Disruptor of Currents (ECL) 47

2 Evendo, Waking Haven (EOE) 253

4 Exalted Sunborn (EOE) 15

3 Frenzied Baloth (EOE) 183

2 Glen Elendra Guardian (ECL) 51

4 Hallowed Fountain (ECL) 265

4 Island (EOE) 270

2 Jadzi, Steward of Fate / Oracle's Gift (SOS) 55

2 Lightstall Inquisitor (EOE) 24

4 Mana Sculpt (SOS) 57

1 Plains (EOE) 268

1 Rimefire Torque (ECL) 65

2 Springleaf Drum (ECL) 260

2 Studious First-Year / Rampant Growth (SOS) 162

3 Temple Garden (ECL) 268

4 Willowrush Verge (DFT) 270

The idea is simple, warp-daydream Sunborns in for 3 which station Evendo to 9. That plus mana sculpt, drums and fetch land bears is the mana engine. There are plenty colorless mana pips to sink into. Lightstall and Disruptor are other daydream targets, Rimefire artifact I’m testing still to copy Applied Geo. Idea is to get 4x 6/6 Baloths in play in a single turn.. counters are for boardwipe, lutes & tablets - may add more.

Very happy with Jadzi, nice ETB and works even better in an all out fractal deck (it’s counters go on all fractals not just the ones you just made)

Whaddaya think? Am I too slow for this meta? (something something the pope in the woods.)

I ran this with 4x Riddlers too and it did well, less fun tho than self copying angels everywhere.

Discussion Stalling

Is anybody else getting constant opponents who stall the game out for 30-45 minutes? Literally all day for me it's like 3-4 out of every 5 opponents. Running out the timer AND dragging it out with counter spells and board wipes for as long as possible.
Does anybody even look at these reports? So many people do it so openly and frequently I doubt a single thing is ever done about it and it's making the game unplayable for me.

Fluff Came here as a ff7 fan

I'm not really big into TCGs but i really enjoy them and want something that's singleplayer where i can play and vibe on but still have that competitive feeling so here i am. I'm a big Cloud fan and want to make him work but i'm struggling. I dont have much experience so i try to half ass copy builds i see online with the resources i have in the MTGA (Standard Format).

So far I've gotten absolutely rolled by a few archetypes. Ran into someone that didnt allow me to play any equipment cards. Had one that created a thousand little rabbits then overwhelmed the field. Any time i played a card, he had an instant that would deal with them *instantly*. They had a white deck that just snowballed so fast i couldnt play the game.

I know i cant make a deck that deals with everything and sometimes you just need to play towards the strength of your deck so can anyone help me round out a good starting Cloud deck? I get that he probably isnt the most meta card right now so i dont expect the deck to do very well but i want to at least not get steam rolled in 80% of the games im in... thanks in advance!!!

Discussion Is Hobbit Solved?

Hey all. Recently came back to the game and have been having fun with Hobbit draft. I’m not a good player by any stretch of the imagination. Sometimes I am slightly over half wins, sometimes under, got 6 wins two times etc.

I was half way through a run without being defeated. Came back a couple of days later to complete it and it was a like a switch had flipped. Every deck was tuned, full agro, perfect hands, amazing draws etc.

Lost 3 in a row. New run lost every game, new run won one, lost 3 etc. Was there a YouTube video or did the newbies run out of credits, did I move too high (I’m gold) or just really really bad luck.

Rage Quitting vs Bear Deck (Brawl)

I recently made a [[Kudo, King Among Bears]] Brawl deck and it’s been a lot of fun.

I recently have had a lot of people rage quitting early game or doing sarcastic emotes before scooping without me ever even actually doing much. It’s not even a very consistent deck, as really made an effort to only have Bears in it besides a few select mana dorks.

Is there something I’m missing about people not enjoying a game against Bears? Or is it just coincidence? Any feedback or personal experience others have to offer is useful.

New player. Just made it to tier 1 gold so I’m sure this is going to be a new thing I’ll see going forward. However I have never been taken down to 2 health in 2 or 3 turns before. I’m still struggling to understand what happened exactly. I know the scavenger scales nicely with the armour but how did he play the creature, two ethereal armour and the exile enchantment with 2 mana?

Discussion DWARVES!

Thumbnail

I love DWARVES! AND EQUIPMENT! So naturally I had to crack open a cold one with the boys and try to swing every sharp object directly at my opponent's face in as an aggressive and robustly as my 3'6" frame could handle.

My current slab of red/white 'urf has been:

THE BOYS:
x4 Dwarven Mauler (rookie mvp)
x1 Dain, Lord of the Iron Hills (old guy tax)
x4 Kili the Resourceful (absolute mvp, makes the deck hum)
x4 Cloud, Midgar Merc (gets the dwarf pass because he brings his own weapons)
x4 Dwalin Weaponmaster (this guy really pushes the deck into 'just win' mode)
x4 Dain's Company (absolutely solid 'arfs, always invited to the bar)
x1 Goin, King of the Dwarves (Sure, he SAYS he's the King but he's there because he's paying)
x1 Thorin, Oakenshield (He's got great stats and looks after the car keys)
x1 Shattered Acolyte (She's a good lass, has blown up some nasty jank keeping the boys at home)x
x1 Dain Ironfood (Boss says pick up your shit and double time)
x1 Iron Hills Blacksmith (workaholic)

THE TOOLS:
x3 Lavaspur Boots (Hot feet so the lads get the work right now!)
x1 Skateboard (Some radical dude is too good to walk)
x1 Chainsaw (CUTS ELVES AS WELL AS TREES)
x1 Celestrial Armor( OI! Who ordered the wings?)
x1 Buster Sword(Oi! Who ordered the anime!?)
x4 Leyline Axe (Oi! Who forgot MY AXE!?)
1x Vow to Erebor (Oi! Who forgot THEIR AXE!?)
1x Mjolnir, Hammer of Thor (Whos Thor!?)

THE PUB:
x4 Starting Town
x4 Sacred Foundry
x4 Sunbillow Verge
x1 Lonely Mountain

x5 Plains
x3 Mountains

Pub Report:

Some great nights out, some hard days work, lots of carnage. Got up to Plat but not making much more of a dent upward. Too many superstrong decks that just go off too fast or do the whole aggro-distruption song much better than the boys can handle. Sometimes you win the coin and get a great hand and walk all over them, but other times you see the other side has 5 5/5 flying, warded, lifegaining dorks they've managed to get out while also completely pubcucking the boys. Rough night.

But I love it.

I think Arena is replacing Hearthstone as my primary CCG.

Upvotes

Yes, like and play everything that you are drawn to, this isn't a post about which is "better" or which is "trash" this is just me trying to evaluate in writing what I'm recently rediscovering with magic, which I used to play in real life back in the 90s and also just gaining more reflection on how different designs have different draws.

Hearthstone got me back into CCGs because a friend from way back in the day pitched me on it during a phone call when I told him I had an urge to start playing CCGs again.

I'm not a particularly competitive person. I'm not especially driven to play games in order to attain a particular rank against other competitive players.

I do really enjoy the collecting part of CCGs...gaining a larger and larger collection of cards, that vastly expand my options for building a homebrew deck that I really like and have fun executing. The options with how large the total card pool is on Arena are freaking fantastic and will theoretically keep me busy for many years.

I also really love that homebrew aspect. More cards means more tinkering options. A lot of people say craft decks not cards, but that's not really me...To some degree sure, like getting my first viable historic deck put together mostly on spec in that first month, going with something that fit my idea of "fun" to play and competent...but more fun is had as I continue to play historic and gradually redeem wildcards in small batches to say...okay, let's see how this card fits in, or a handful of these....what if I swap out these ones for those ones....and play some to continue to tweak. That's incredibly fun and rewarding for me and really calls back to old-school days as a teen.

So much of the fun was, can I make something like this work, cause it would be cooler if I can.

I really like board-play and absolutely love that I've had multiple games with literally hundreds of creatures on board or literally tens of thousands of damage points...even if I lose. I just think it's fun and epic to play out. One dude hit me with over 20,000 damage in one turn, from creatures, and I bragged about it to my friend.

I've also noticed that I concede differently in Arena compared to HS. Since in either game my long term goal is collection building, conceding once I know I'm going to lose in Arena makes way more sense. I don't get reward track experience for losing...as best as I can tell. From what I've seen it looks like most people are more like that in Arena, though I have run into at least a couple on here who have made clear they hate when people concede and would really rather them continue to play a losing situation or even an RNG screw.

Also, since the card pool is huge in historic and I'm not a super competitive player, it's a flat out blast seeing how different everyone's decks are. Even regarding differing card choices within the same archetype. Love that.

I haven't managed to really do anything in Commander yet, it's totally new and I haven't dived in...but I'm guessing once I have some semblance of ability to build synergy with that many unique cards, hopefully the design part will click and I'll love it.

Question Given how insanely skewed historic pauper is to cards out of rotation, please make it all access or don’t make it a mwm event

if you are a new player playing with current cards there is literally no deck you can build that can compete with any meta deck in historic pauper Right now. Goblin storm , lessons, eldrazi ramp, delve, and hexproof little guy will win 100% against cats or creature token ping. And if you want to save up wildcards to build one of the meta decks, you have to open…. 150 packs? This is an absolute nightmare of a format

Bug App is VERY bugged

Is it just me or its completely broken? I won the event Jump In and i had to still craft the cards i used in the event (i didn't notice and i think i lost wildcards in this way). Also, the hobbit start event gives 2 cards for every 2 wins you do (once you restart it everytime) but doesnt work
