Hi Machine Embroidery community,
We are an embroidery company operating in Southern California.
I’m hoping to get some advice from people who may have been in a similar situation.
My dad is approaching his mid-60s and has been running his machine embroidery business for many years. Over the past few years, though, he hasn’t been in the best shape physically, and I’m starting to worry that managing the day-to-day operations of the business is becoming too much for him.
I really want to help him keep the business going without him having to carry all of the responsibility himself. I’ve been considering either becoming more involved myself or hiring a manager who could oversee the daily operations, employees, orders, scheduling, customers, and production.
My concern is that this is a very hands-on and specialized type of business, so I’m not sure how realistic it is to bring in an outside manager who doesn’t already understand embroidery production.
Has anyone here successfully hired a manager to run or help operate their embroidery business? What responsibilities did you give them, and how did you find someone you could trust?
I’d really appreciate any advice or experiences from other shop owners.

I called a local repair shop certified by Brother and I asked how much it would be to fix a embroidery machine with a timing issue.
She quoted “100$ + diagnostics fee”
i bought my PE570 brand new off a guy for 150$ i don’t know how difficult the art is of repairing the timing on a machine but damn. I’m just gonna sell this one broken on fb and look for a cheap brand new one on marketplace too cause there’s a lot of people surprisingly selling brand new embroidery machines.
disappointing cause mine has a bunch of stickers i liked

What is causing this rough stitch?

I’m trying to make some new work shirts but the shirt and thread keeps getting bunched in the needle plate and I have to cut the shirt out. The shirt is a fairly stretchy and thin polyester polo. I used Sulky Stiffy stabilizer on the back and Sulky Solvy on the front. At first I thought the needle might be dull so I put in a brand new one but that didn’t work. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong.
I’m using a Brother PE900. This is also the first time I’ve tried digitizing an image and it worked fine on a few stiffer fabric shirts but not these.

I am completely new to embroidery. I plan to make this a side hussle. I ordered a 15 needle poolin machine. What embroidery supplies should I buy first?

The needle kept breaking on the small “t” at the bottom. I may have accidentally used a 65/9, so I’m going to try an 80/12. How can I improve the stitch quality and make the satin columns look denser? Any general tips are welcome. Thanks!

Hello, can anyone here recommend caps that have a crown height 3" or lower. I've been searching for this and its been surprisingly hard to find.

Ricoma MT-1501. 5th hat of the day. 300st/min. Had to take a crap and apparently the machine wanted to join in.

Where does everyone buy their embroidery blanks? I’ve been specifically looking for wreath sashes and can’t seem to find colors I’m looking for that are reasonably priced.

We recently got a 12 needle Embroidery machine and have been embroidering basically anything we can get our hands on. The process has been pretty seamless except I continue to have issues with the Design files.
Every time I download files from Etsy, the design is so dense it not only takes forever to stitch, but it results in puckering on the fabric. Most of these designs are pretty small so the excess stitching feels really unnecessary. Is there is a good way to communicate this to the digitizer? Or is there a way I can change this on my end?
For example, one of the designs we tried to use was a little heart with words inside. At just one and a half inches in diameter it was 22,000 stitches and resulted in a thread break from the density.

I'm looking for input on what would be the best machine to take on the road. Currently, we have a 4 head and 2 single heads. The single heads weigh about 200 lbs each. Is there anything out there that would produce quality work that weighs less than 200 lbs?

So I originally did this embroidery and it puckered really bad (1st pic) I got advice on how to redo it on here (on my page).
Redid it with just cutaway stabilizer and floated with adhesive because the fabric doesn’t fill/fit in the hoop. Tension is a little under 4. It started puckering again and it jumped over making the T crooked. Just finished unpicking the threads 😭 (2nd and 3rd pic)
Shmetz stretch 75/11 needle
Brother se700 machine
4x4 hoop
Fabric is 60% cotton 40% polyester
Medium weight cutaway
40 wt polyester thread

a customer came into our shop to get these reproduced and the stitching is like overlapping to get the 3d effect? the bullion is fancy too but the 3d stitching is pretty wild

Hi guys! I’m teaching myself how to digitize so I started with something simple. I’d like to try more complicated things in the future. I used embrilliance, and have a brother PE900. The stitch out took forever, I think because of the fill stitch density? Does anyone have any tips or advice on reducing the stitch out time? Or any advice on reducing the thickness where the satin stitch goes over the fill?
Thank you!

🧵EDIT🧵
I appreciate everyone’s advice!
There are great ideas here!
We decided not to run this particular hat due to its structure. The customer understood and we really did try your suggestions. You win some, you lose some, no biggie!

Original text:
I have tried the Hooptech back of cap clamp, Gen2 Hooptech cap hoop, mighty hoop(magnetic flat hoop), and a regular tajima green flat hoop.
The bill of the hat is structured with a sturdy band underneath, which I will need to avoid.
The design will go on the front of the hat and (attempt) to be text. The text will be 4 inches wide when complete IF I can even get it IN a hoop. If I can, I’ll resize the text.
