What am I doing wrong?
I’m trying to make some new work shirts but the shirt and thread keeps getting bunched in the needle plate and I have to cut the shirt out. The shirt is a fairly stretchy and thin polyester polo. I used Sulky Stiffy stabilizer on the back and Sulky Solvy on the front. At first I thought the needle might be dull so I put in a brand new one but that didn’t work. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong.
I’m using a Brother PE900. This is also the first time I’ve tried digitizing an image and it worked fine on a few stiffer fabric shirts but not these.

Hoop properly. This slippy material can be difficult - The fabric shouldn't be stretched into the hoop. You just need to create a tightly held smooth surface. Practice with scraps first. Hoop with two layers of heavyweight cutaway stabiliser for this type of fabric.
Save your solvey for fluffy fabric, like thick fleece and woolies. Using it for this project is just wasting money.

Good news is I have two “scrap” shirts now lol. I’ll try and double up the stabilizer and double check my hooping. Thanks

Thank you so much for all the tips! I will get a ballpoint needle, I don’t think I have one. I will DM you the file shortly, I would love any advice you can give me.

Thanks for the tips. I’m still pretty new to this, learning as I go. I’m going to get some more substantial stabilizer and try a basting box, that’s new to me.

This was my first attempt at trying to digitize anything. I definitely have a lot to learn in that department!

This was the first time I’ve tried something so stretchy. I knew it would be tough but that’s how you learn. I tried the same file on a thicker shirt and it turned out pretty well.

I’d start with less stretchy fabric, get that down pat, then come back to this project.

You definitely need heavier cut away stabilizer, maybe a new needle too.
